I'm truly stuck between a rock and a hard place. I obviously should be going for an AMD card for the DX12, but then I need HDMI 2.0 to output at 60Hz to my 4K TV which only the NVIDIA GPU's have :disappointed:

The NVIDIA GPU's that have HDMI 2.0 also support DX12.

There could be a setting causing the stuttering like AA or shadows. I always play games in windowed borderless while disabling vsync in game and frame limiting using RTSS to get the smoothest experience.

I made the same switch, Project Cars was a real pig on the G3258. Still getting a bit of stutter on GTAV whilst driving, using GTX970 and 4670k OC'd to 4.4ghz.

Some of my stuttering turned out to be my G3258, so I updated to the i5-4670k. Massive, massive improvement in all games. Especially GTA V.

Good to hear. I was suffering with bad stuttering too that's why I didn't continue playing it. I might have to try it out again

Oh yeah, but time. I saw a massive jump in FPS when updating to newer drivers and patches.

I find the AA settings doesn't do much either. I play with borderless windowed so downsampling doesn't work for me. Optimizations have improved lately? I haven't played since a few patches.

Depending on settings I can manage between 35-45, it used to stutter a lot but the most recent patches/drivers really improve things. Helps that my CPU is a heavily overclocked i5-4670k. Bare in mind I'm turning all the antialising off and a load of the post processing, because when downsampled you don't really need it.

What FPS do you get with The Witcher 3 downsampling from 2560x1440?

Might try this, cheers for the tip!
Currently got a 290x, hoping that will tide me for a few years. Only games it struggles with are those with PhysX

Hoping my 280x holds out until these get closer to £250. Good deal nonetheless.

Indeed it will hold out.

I'm using a 280X still, not had a problem yet. Despite running The Witcher 3 and GTA V at 1440p and then downscaling to 1080p - looks better than crappy antialiasing.

Pretty good deal - the price it should be really bearing in mind that the uplift from R9 390 isn't exactly huge (and the same goes for GTX 980 while we're at it).
