Aberlour A'bunadh Single Malt Whisky down from £41.50 to £33.50 at Waitrose (National Deal).
This excellent cask strength (59.6% or thereabouts) whisky is one of the best even at full price. This is an absolute bargain for single malt fans.

£30 off your first £100 shop. 3 x bottles 100.50p minus £30 = £70.50p. £23.50 a bottle.

Ok,
So I cracked open my newly purchased bottle of batch 52 last night, when I got home at 10pm.
The wife had the fire burning away nicely, and the room was pleasantly warm. I poured myself a decent tot and the first thing noticed was the intense rich colour of the whisky. Not the pale straw colour of a more mainstream scotch, but a deep rosewood, with hints of cedar wood. There was nothing smoky about the aroma, but the sweetness of the sherry casks and a muscovado sugar overtone. First sip gave a rich mouth filling flavour, hot, but not nostril flaming, with a long finish of rich fruit cake, almost figgy, but not overpowering. I relaxed into my glass-full and had a pleasant night's sleep.
Look forward to tonight now

Back on offer for those who missed out the first time...
Also keep an eye on Sainsbury's as they keep putting it out at £25 every so often

Cheers for that, missed it in Morrisons when it was £25... and noticed this whisky was just over £29 on Amazon... ARGH! Missed both! Got camelcamelcamel watches on both in case they dip in price again.

Yes, sorry. Wasn't sure I was allowed to write that, as you know what the Mods are like on here when deals for d1ldos and butt plugs get posted. Anyway, suffice to say I enjoyed the experience thoroughly

I understand that this particular whisky is pretty good, but is the Aberlour 12 a good single malt for relative whisky newcomers?
I'm not very keen on the smokiest whiskies I've tried, and particularly enjoyed some Olorusso sherry matured (cask strength) whisky I was given a sample of on a distillery tour... only problem it was £80 a bottle and I'm on a budget!
Has the price on this gone back up by the way?

Yes, its a great tipple especially if you can pick it up around the £25 mark.

Appears to be £33.50 on "waitrosecellar.com" which has a minimum 6 bottle purchase.
I can't find it on waitrose.com so assume it's out of stock though other posters suggest it's at full price there anyway.

I bought this exact combination last week. 23.50 per bottle. Result! Would happily pay twice that.
Now the hard part, making sure some of it survives to Christmas...

The 12 is very good, but the A'bunadh is in a different league.
It's only £8 more, but at 60% ABV you are effectively getting 1.5x - if you add water to reduce to 40% ABV, which effectively means you would have to spend £37.50 for the same amount of alcohol for the 12 year old.
I'm not suggesting you would add so much water of course, just illustrating the value for money.
I'm always amazed that A'bunadh's regular price of about £42 is possible, as that's even good value, seeing it available at this sort of discount is just fantastic.

For drinking in Abu Dhabi you might well get lashed, with a cat of nine tails.

I just bought 2 bottles, one is batch #51 the other batch #52.
I already have #47,#49,#50 (nearly empty).
Might keep these for XMAS gifts for some whisky friends.

Beautiful stuff, never read a bad word about it. Highly recommended, but do leave it towards the end of the evening because nothing really follows it.
Now am wondering if I should buy another bottle, even though I only bought one (at full price) last week.

This is excellent, heavily sherried malt which requires a splash of water, it is so strong. Mmmmmmmm.

My whisky tasting expert friend (Manchester Whisky Soc, pyromaniacs blog) tells me this punches well above it's weight.
I'll be heading down to my local to purchase a bottle.
Thanks OP.
