This is Mexico, the locals are lovely in the Riviera Maya.
The reps will feed you a load of lies To get you to buy their overpriced excursions when it is possible to do most of them for a fraction of the price if you organise them yourself.

So your criteria for avoiding a country is whether or not you may get your head chopped off? So the question you ask is "has anyone ever had their head chopped off there?". I'm sure most countries would have to answer this "yes", including the UK.
Funny that you don't evaluate things like what can you do there, quality of accommodation, flight time, weather, vaccinations needed, language barrier etc rather some paranoid idea that you might get your head chopped off.
Each to their own, I guess.

This is Mexico. A mainly Christian, Catholic country!
Hopefully not many ISIS idiots there.
We went in August 2006 for Honeymoon. Absolutely fantastic place. Stayed at Akumel Beach Resort, quite near Tulum, along the Riviera Maya. Beautiful part of the world. Very hot. Very humid. Lovely people. Amazing excursions. Still speak to a few couples we met there.
If you can go for these dates, then I'd definitely recommend it.

March is a lovely time to go there. Have been a couple of times around March/April and it was some very fine weather. Not too hot. Nov/Dec will be similar just probably a slightly higher chance of some light rain. Ok, enough of the weather reporting, it really is a great area to holiday.

Last time I checked, the Yucatan Penisula (here) was the only state in Mexico not to be flagged as "take caution". And you're more likely to get caught in crossfire than be decapitated - still a silly low chance though.
Fantastic place. If you're feeling a little more adventurous I'd recommend getting a flight only and heading down the coast from Playa Del Carmen to Belize. It's like a grown ups playground!

What always gets me about AI holidays is that they usually charge a supplement for single people. 1 Person would eat less, drink less, take up less room by the pool, but take up the same room so why ho why do they penalise single people.
FREEZIN WOLF to BeerGoggles
23 Oct 15#37
Because you're under occupying a room that they'd get the revenue from if you'd paid for a second person to stay in there with you.
Its not to do with the amount of consumption.

Went to Monterrey on work basis in August. Was humid a anything! No spoke any English so I had to learn Spanish (was tempted to say Mexican) and as a vegetarian it was hard to find somewhere to eat. People I was working with were great though.
I would like to go back to Mexico to a holiday destination. 766 for two weeks seems a good price.

This is a point NOT to consider...It's not right in the hurricane season. In fact, it's not even in the hurricane season (well, probably less than 12 hours of it will be!)
Hurricane season in the Atlantic begins June 1st and ends November 30th.This holiday is 30th November.
Most Hurricanes are between August and October. Yes, it's October and that's why we have hurricane Patricia.

You can't really criticize people who bring up the issues in Mexico based off "I had a lovely time". The country has serious issues. Some people prefer to avoid them countries altogether, you can label them as overly fearful, or wisely playing the risks vs benefits game. But not really run them down over it.
