Hi,
Can someone who has had their SU6 for a few months now tell me what the latest version of software they have been upgraded to is? The first one I got I rooted straight away so that now doesn't get updates, I'm due to get another one on Friday and want to make sure its at the latest version of Android prior to rooting that as well.
Thanks

Now £120 at Amazon for they grey version. 2-5 week wait though.
Didn't know about the £5 thing. I will probably do that from now on.
I don't want any sort contract. I think the £10 will last me quite a long time if I stick with wifi.

Three's 321 plan is great - but not so great for heavy data users.
To get better value it's best to top up £5 each time - as the free 150MB is on every top up you make, not just on £10 top ups. So theoretically £10 will get you 300MB of data plus £10 worth of data at 1p per MB = 1.3GB.
I'm not a huge fan of WiFi hotspots myself as I'm sick to the teeth with splash screens and login pages that pop up after you've been browsing for a few minutes. Yes, there are apps by BT, Sky, O2 and other WiFi operators that allow for automatic logins without the need to hit 'continue' etc, but they just take up space and I find them unnecessary.
Have you given the ID network a thought? They are owned by Carphone Warehouse but use Three's network - and are much cheaper than Three. It is a contract though, but only for 30 days.
FreddyK2K15
15 Sep 15#269
Actually I used it twice on two servers so that is about 40 each time.
I opted for 321 three as I didn't think I would use mobile data much and use wifi instead. Also not much in calls The not expiring element is useful. Hopefully checking emails, facebook etc won't take much.
I think need to experiment with wifi hotspots. Any good free apps that can find them?
preecey
15 Sep 15#268
Unfortunately that does sound about right. Speed tests use a considerable amount of data, and the faster your connection the more data they consume.
Plus a few megabytes may be attributed to background data, such as emails coming in and other apps which use the Internet in the background.
FreddyK2K15
15 Sep 15#267
Quick question about the speedtest.net app. I have only done one download test on the three mobile data and it has used 70MB of the 150MB free internet for the month? Is that right? The download speed was 21Mbps.

I have no problems with my glass protector covering the sensor and front camera.
Avoid buying anything from this seller... the screen protector they are selling is way too small for this model and you will be left with a 0.5cm gap in the bottom of the screen. And the seller will refuse to admit that the protector is faulty and refuse to refund you. Stay away from them as hell.

Has anyone tried to do a phone screen shot? Apparently you are supposed to press the vol down and power button. I cannot get it to work tried numerous different ways with these 2 buttons but can't get it to work. In the end i've had to download an app, which is still a pain as you have to either have a permanent icon (which shows on the screen shot) or mess about loading up the app prior to screen shotting. Any suggestions would be good as i use this feature quite often.

It worked for me but it's dam awkward to do imo - I forgot to even test it when I first got the phone. Other than that everything is great. The screen is so crisp it's amazing; I've come from a Samsung Galaxy S3.

Hello,
Just purchased the phone, a much needed upgrade from my Nexus 4. Flubbit and Bespoke for me said that they could not offer a better price than Amazon. So what I did was took advantage of the current Amazon voucher promotion (the hottest deal of the month I believe). So I purchased a £40 gift voucher and then a day later got a additional £10 free from Amazon. So the total cost of the phone was £115 for me. Hopefully helps other people out looking to buy the phone from amazon.

Yes it will work with 3G as well as 4G LTE out there, as the phone supports most LTE bands and GSM frequencies. Of course, the networks and speeds you will be able to connect to will depend on your current network here in the UK. If you're on Three you'll be pretty much good to go for both 4G and 3G, and will be able to use AT&T/T-Mobile USA. Just not any CDMA networks, though.

I have just returned mine, I had it for a week and noticed that it sometimes got hot when making calls. Uncomfortable to press against my ear kinda hot. Calls were less than 5minutes. Not every time so I wonder if it was the transmit power increasing when in weak signal areas. As it might have been pumping extra rf energy out directly into the old grey, I decided to return under the 14day policy. The hot spot was fairly localised to the area thay touches the ear.

Ordered one directly through Vodafone this morning and it says 1-2 weeks for delivery to my local store. I haven't actually used or seen one except reviews so going to trial it for a few days and return if not satisfied. I'm coming from a HTC One M7.

So I talked to amazon customer services. They informed me they didn't have stock delivered as promised and will not be receiving the stock for over a month. I cancelled my order and they gave a 5 pound amazon voucher as way as an apology. I just ordered one through the vodafone website to pick up in my local store tomorrow

I just bought 1 from asda, I was asked if I wanted to buy a top up, but declined, as i intend unlocking and putting my Tesco sim in, so paid £125.
There is a £10 Vodafone sim package inside, but I assume it does not include any credit on it already.

Bought one from vodafone store but wanted to sell me a £10 bundle. I told them if I'd ordered online to click and collect in store you could keep existing sim and not have to pay the additional £10 bundle.
They didn't want to know. So I got my phone out and showed them the click and collect offer. After a couple of visits to her manager they let me have it for £125.

No, if you order it online you can opt to keep your current sim (no proof needed your on vodafone) and pick it up in store for free then you don't have to pay the 10 pound top up.

Just had a quick look at one of these in Vodafone's Fleet branch (they had plenty in store). Looks very nice. Screen is sharp and the camera looks good. The only thing that bothers me is that it's so much bigger than my humble Moto G. Not sure my hands and fingers are up to the job!

Thanks. I wouldn't have if I already had the phone. This was before buying as one of the threads (I think XDA) I read someone mentioning that his phone had a few dead pixels and Vodafone refused to replace the phone citing the reason of an unauthorised network unlock. What I essentially wanted to understand was that if I get this phone unlocked from ebay, would Vodafone come to know about this and therefore void warranty in case needed to claim.

Can only compare to the moto G, nokia 520 and jiayu s3 I've recently had. Much more accurate than the S3, and locks on at least as quick as the moto G and the nokia 520. Guessing the completely plastic body helps with reception. The jiayu s3 locked on quickest by a few seconds from cold, but when it thinks you're on a different road 200m from where you actually are, whats the point?

Bought last month for my boy's birthday as he had cracked the screen on my old s2 that he was using.
Really good phone, can uninstall 98% of the unwanted voda bloatware to give a near clean lollipop experience.
Based on previous Voda update history, don't expect any big updates to the phone for some time, if ever.

I bought the wife one and i have to say i think its absolutely awesome. I have an LG G3 but i wouldn't be gutted if i had to swap. Granted the build quality isnt quite as good, theres no gyroscope and cases aren't so plentyful but for the money these are absolutely brilliant. Its really responsive, battery is really good. Screen is so impressive and all for essentially peanuts!
Bloatware isnt too bad (most of it can be removed or disabled).
Got a superb case and some excellent screen protectors from fleabay... My missus was really chuffed with it.

Malwarebytes didn't show anything for me either, but it was there under services (there was 10 or so dodgy services running). I had random adverts showing even after resetting so I knew something wasn't right. Compass works, its the gyroscope that doesn't. The jiayu has a better CPU, but unless you're benchmarking you won't notice in general use and gaming.

Huawei Honor Holly is probably what you want for a cheap 16Gb phone from a known brand:
Yes I agree the charging time on the Jiayu S3 is a bit slow. But I'm getting at least 6hrs screen on time, so that's not really to much of an issue.
I've not had any issues with it getting hot at all.
I had heard that some people were finding malware on theirs, but I checked mine with malwarebytes and found nothing. If I had done though, I could have just removed it simply as the phone is pre-rooted.
I've tried the compass and it works. As well as all my other apps. Including banking ones, Here etc.
The main issue I see with the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 is the rather poor CPU. It just can't compete with that of the Jiayu S3.

How does a LG g2 compare
frewen to shug119
15 Aug 151#31
G2 has a better chipset so apps should run more smoothly but is restricted to a max of 32GB storage (not expanable) whereas the Ultra 6 has a micro SD card slot. The G2 also has a smaller screen and has buttons on the back rather than the side. I would say that this makes the G2 easier to use in one hand. The Ultra 6 has a cleaner version of Android with less bloat vs LG's kitchen sink approach with the G2, not sure if this is changed by the Lollipop update. I rooted my G2 and installed a CM12.1-based rom which is more similar to the Ultra 6's software.

Have you both checked if you are vulnerable to stagefright and heartbleed or if the updates you've had have sorted these issues?:

Can someone who has had their SU6 for a few months now tell me what the latest version of software they have been upgraded to is? The first one I got I rooted straight away so that now doesn't get updates, I'm due to get another one on Friday and want to make sure its at the latest version of Android prior to rooting that as well.
Thanks

I don't want any sort contract. I think the £10 will last me quite a long time if I stick with wifi.
I opted for 321 three as I didn't think I would use mobile data much and use wifi instead. Also not much in calls The not expiring element is useful. Hopefully checking emails, facebook etc won't take much.
I think need to experiment with wifi hotspots. Any good free apps that can find them?
Plus a few megabytes may be attributed to background data, such as emails coming in and other apps which use the Internet in the background.
Is EE supposed to be the best for 4G then?

It would also explain why sound profile app shows 1970 in the lock screen notification.
What date bug? It shows right time and date currently.

you might need to adjust the settings though, I found the delay of 1 second too irritating, 2 is about right
I should finally get the screen protector I ordered a week ago from Amazon. Got some cheap bluetooth headphones to try too.

I got two cases from ebay and they fit perfectly. Unfortunately the seller after I bought a case then started selling it with a glass protector.
I wouldn't mind removing the vodafone boot animation with something better.
And of course, because you can
I paid £3.95 without the glass protector.
If they are any good, I look at getting one for my Samsung Tablet too.
Got one on my current phone and my tablet so want to get one for this phone as well (never buying the crappy plastic things again)
Think i'll just bite the bullet and get the specific one for the phone.
Steevie - Looking for a glass protector too. Iphone 6 plus protectors are supposed to be good too with the exception of a hole for the home button on the iphone. I wouldn't mind seeing pics of one on the SU6.
Why do you want one?
I use a very good wallet case: basically the screen doesn't get scatched.
PS does anyone know what glass is used on this phone? The spec doesn't say.

Also because I thought the gen2 had a couple of issues.
Had my su6 about a month now, and for the money quite happy with it.
PS the £40 gift voucher purchase + £10 free ends on the 29th of August.
it says 4-7 days for me
No estimated delivery date though? I've never used Bespoke before, is it normal for them not to provide a delivery date? It would be sourced by fireworks merchant limited btw.
Shame as a great phone, so back to the 1st gen moto-g for now.

Solidamber, I was giving the option of hangouts, so I just selected that.
I have upgraded from Moto G 2014 3g and am liking the difference, especially the extra options on the camera. The data connection settings have not transferred to my new sim yet, so cannot connect to internet without wifi, but am sure I will get an increase when it does.
I have ordered some spare, if anyone wants one at cost price plus delivery do advise
Ordered one directly through Vodafone this morning and it says 1-2 weeks for delivery to my local store. I haven't actually used or seen one except reviews so going to trial it for a few days and return if not satisfied. I'm coming from a HTC One M7.
There is a £10 Vodafone sim package inside, but I assume it does not include any credit on it already.
They didn't want to know. So I got my phone out and showed them the click and collect offer. After a couple of visits to her manager they let me have it for £125.
Thanks
Can anyone recommend the best cases for this please?

Similar to Flubit then :man:
Harrumph. :disappointed:
I even tried the Adsa deal on Bespoke, but it wasn't recognised as an online merchant. Bet Argos have stock soon, they do loads of Voda PAYG. So maybe worth waiting for that.
So, SU6 gets lock pretty quick (<10s from cold?) and with good accuracy (never driving in the middle of a field or on the wrong road)?
Sorry, but this is an important feature to me so I have to ask a little more. Thanks
Really good phone, can uninstall 98% of the unwanted voda bloatware to give a near clean lollipop experience.
Based on previous Voda update history, don't expect any big updates to the phone for some time, if ever.
The boy loves it, although hates having to be so precious with it (I've told him any damage and he pays full price for replacement phone!!!), doesn't want a case so on his head....
Did you tell them it was unlocked when you went to get it replaced? If so, you really shouldn't have.

Can't stand the LG g2
She was coming from a Samsung Galaxy S3
Happy to answer any questions that anyone might have.
I guess I'm going to be looking at an S5 mini or equivalent
I bought the wife one and i have to say i think its absolutely awesome. I have an LG G3 but i wouldn't be gutted if i had to swap. Granted the build quality isnt quite as good, theres no gyroscope and cases aren't so plentyful but for the money these are absolutely brilliant. Its really responsive, battery is really good. Screen is so impressive and all for essentially peanuts!
Bloatware isnt too bad (most of it can be removed or disabled).
Got a superb case and some excellent screen protectors from fleabay... My missus was really chuffed with it.
Its such excellent value for money and im a difficult man to please.
If you're looking for phones in this price bracket just buy one... You'll think its been mispriced.
In daily use i suppose there isn't much difference so i would go for the smart ultra 6, if you have the extra £100 then go nexus like i did.
What would be the equivalent phone in a smaller size? I have moto g 1st gen but the limited storage is making me look at upgrades.

Yes unlocked will work on any network. Talk Mobile is Vodafone based, although don't do 4G yet.
2GB
COCO
wrong thread sorry people
Sorely tempted but want to stay on my Tesco (O2) sim only contract.
Great phone for the price tho and easily unlocked to other networks
