Battlefield 4™ is the genre-defining action blockbuster made from moments that blur the line between game and glory. Fueled by the next-generation power and fidelity of Frostbite™ 3, Battlefield 4 provides a visceral, dramatic experience unlike any other.
Only in Battlefield will you blow the foundations of a dam or reduce an entire skyscraper to rubble, or lead a naval assault from the back of a gun boat. Battlefield grants you the freedom to do more and be more while playing to your strengths and carving your own path to victory.
In addition to its hallmark multiplayer, Battlefield 4 features an intense and dramatic character-driven campaign that starts with the evacuation of American VIPs from Shanghai and follows your squad's struggle to find its way home.
There is no comparison. Immerse yourself in the glorious chaos of all-out war, found only in Battlefield.

Forget premium buy this and see if you like the game. If you do then buy premium.
No point buying premium straight away more than enough content in the base game to form a proper opinion from.
When the game first came out it was absolutely shocking. It's playable now though after many delayed patches.

Out of interest are there any benefits of buying the premium version if you mainly play the campaign mode? I dont have much interest in multiplayer maps.

No there is no single player DLC. Plus the campaign is poor imo and lasts about 3-4 hours.

Had this on the 360, including premium!, but had to stop playing as getting freezes and kicked every damn game ruined it for me.
3 hours of this so far on the PS4 and love it. 64 player conquest is fantastic, and the game is still very well populated! Think I might regret not getting the premium edition, but Battlefront is out in a few months I suppose.

It doesn't unlock anything other than the maps, you still have to work to unlock the weapons.

Also, your saves should be backed up to PSN, assuming you have Plus.

Yes but you will have to delete the cached game data from the disc version before downloading this one.

The small maps make CQ games a bit CoD-like (fastest finger 1st, no major benefits to team & strategic play) but I do like Blood Money for a bit of comedy and the money-based level system makes more sense than any other BF game.
It was killed before release by people calling it DLC when in reality, it's the biggest change to the BF franchise to date (which killed it off for everyone else ).
Foolish me got Premium for it too so I want to get some value out of it but it's not the same without yer mates :disappointed:

When did premium unlock all guns? Is this just on console or am I missing something?

The only minus point would be the 21 months experience that some will have over a newbie which might make for frustrating gameplay but for a tenner, you can't go wrong!
A (now) solid game with a strong user base (none of my PSN buddies play BFHL any more :disappointed:).

The full premium edition is £24 with Plus. It is often cheaper just to buy that than to get the addon pack for the standard game unfortunately.
There are far more players playing the standard version than the premium maps. I'd recommend getting the premium for an extra tenner as it adds loads of content (like double the maps and game modes), but it's an awesome game even without premium.

Can someone point me to where I can upgrade to premium for £10?

What is the multiplayer like on this version? Or do you need the more expensive version to get a better multiplayer experience?

The base maps still get played a lot. Plus there are some free maps (no premium required) in the not to distant future.

I bought the game a couple of months ago and picked up premium when it was on sale - I still spend most of the time on the original maps. Premium is nice for a bit of variety, but is by no means essential.

I found it playable for the first month, with the exception of Lancang Dam which suffered from serious rubber banding.
They then released some patches and made the game worse. Since then, as Sonny said, now the patches have been released its actually playable and a more enjoyable experience.
At release it did feel some what like a beta but I believe dice have learned from these mistakes and are rewarding the community that still play with free content.

Yeah, the difference is that I enjoy both types of game and to be fair I haven't actually paid for BF4 once. I got the PC version given to me and the XB1 version was on EA Access.

Sorry, but I just couldn't let this go. There's a line between game and glory? And it's normally not blurry? Nope. Never seen it.
And exactly what genre did Battlefield 4™ define, exactly? I can't believe people actually get paid to write this crap. Bull like this really blurs the line between 'marketer' and 'simpleton'. A line that actually *has* been blurry for quite a while.
Feels good to have got that out of the system.

The problem with the Premium maps are most fully populated matches use the base maps everyone has or the latest maps released under premium, the inbetween ones become under used.
To try the game, the base maps will be fine.

for the more casual gamer who wants to dip his toes there's still plenty of game and a busy online community using the non premium maps for less than a tenner.
