For that price you'd be mad not to buy it, variable temperature stations are normally 4 times the price. How good it is I've no idea but worth a punt.

you'll need a welding machine to do that. This will only adhere small pieces of wire together

If i remember rightly, there's 3 types
2mm Chisel Soldering Iron Tip Duratool D01843 D02265 Maplin N78AR D01843-C1-4
Good deal, and a hell of alot better than the £5 efforts i've been using in the past

Thanks, heat added. Take a look at this soldering guide: Link. I also bought solder, solder wick, a chisel tip and an electronics game that requires soldering for practice.

I remember wiring a megadrive 6 button jo6pad board onto a snes arcade stick my friend gave me as it was broken. I used in on my pc for emulator games.

CPC were selling a variable temperature soldering station very recently at a reduced price which turned out to be junk. Online reviews in Europe and US slated them because they failed so quickly and there was a problem with the stand not fitting. It could well be "Buyer Beware!"
BTW all the positive reviews said isn't it cheap/low priced, worth trying for a few £'s/$'s etc.......

This is what i found when i came across this product a couple of weeks ago too. Why is it so hard to find a decent, reliable entry level iron?

It might be worth searching on Aliexpress for a deal because there must be a decent one available on there somewhere, just judge by the feedback. Be aware that you pay VAT above £15 value and most items are in $. Some do local delivery which means they have stock in the UK which will not incur any payment on receipt of the item, including the £10 the royalmail charges for collecting any charges.

Take a look at CPC for solder wire & flux. Didn't look for tips - you can do some of the work

Old thread - but ebay is generally best, because there you can buy leaded solder which is better albeit it against EU rules apparently.

Thanks. Maplin only sell unleaded  or should I say lead free

i bought one of these, its junk. the tip doesnt heat up enough to melt thin solder properly , even on the 450 deg setting. I needed to hold the tip on the board / pin and press and hold for ages, potentially damaging other components.
