Been using one of these today to dig a hole in the garden.
Whilst at it, I found an old five pence piece. I rushed into the house to show it to the wife.
Then I remembered why I was digging the hole.

Brilliant just bought the garden fork from Mold Flintshire, marked at £8.99. Asked at the checkout to verify the price and happy days £2.93 !!!

Don't need any (cheapo spades and forks can be found anywhere, think Sainsburys are reduced to similar price as HB at this minute) but still looked at their clearance list.
Lot of rubbish, but the odd bargain is there.
You've all missed the Best Buy it's this! item no. 069703
I should really put it up as deal of the day on hotdeals but I'm in a rush now to pick up my ELEVEN torches!!!
ENERGISER Torch reduced to 93 pence!
On sale in some outlets at 8 times this. Even amazon has it at 8.99
Just visited my local had these however decided to opt for the digging spade that should have been £15.99 reduced down to £2.93 uses a wooden shaft and has a 5 year guarantee on it too better deal imo but still if unable to garb one I got this is still a good deal and worth it at that price

Like a lot of garden tools, these days, they're very poorly designed from an Engineering point of view. Note the thinning of the shaft where the handle joins the blade.....just where the load and stress is maximum. Even with tools like trowels they just tack weld a round piece of steel to the blade and, of course, they just break out of it with any load. They're all tarted up whether stainless steel or not (Stainless steel is inferior to tempered non-stainless steel) but as with everything it's all about marketing....look at the skin deep presentation and ignore the underlying design, materials and production. Phew! Can you tell I'm 70?

Reserved both. Showing over 20 off each in stock. Guess what? 54 mile round trip, got a forking fork, but no forking spade. Advised them to stick fork up their ****. Another waste of my fecking time. **** off Homebase.

I'm not sure why anyone would make a 54 mile round trip just to buy these. But didn't it occur to you to phone the store after you received the ready to collect email to double check they have actually had them?

Mmmm... This might seem an odd statement to make but... these are the best...."old SkHool" type garden instruments I've bought in such a long time.....
They don't have any "carbon steel" rubbish...http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7205860.htm. Fell for that carbon steel nonsense and the *ucker split within no time :-(. Went to HB and found these ... TANKS!!! and never looked back. Maker sure they have the red ring around the joint between the stem and the base and you're golden. My fork didn't so I have to store it upside down or water will creep in.
Try to find the "ALL STEEL STEM" version.
Hope this helps.

Probably okay for selling on to some unsuspecting buyer but not much use in the actual garden. Rather than Homebase scrapping them they sell them cheaply to us to take them away for them and, a little while later, throwing them in the metal skip at the local tip.

I just ordered some Bulldog tools as I need heavy duty for some serious work in the garden long term. I normally say don't waste your money with cheap tools but these are a bargain and at the price could even be viewed as disposable. If they broke would you really be that bothered over less than £3?

I'm only 10 stone but snapped a prong and bent another on day 1 so it went back and was upgraded to a Spear and Jackson. This was 6 years ago, so they may have changed the composition since then.

i bought one of these, within 20 minutes of light garden use i hit a small-ish rock, one of the forks shattered, part of it flew off back towards me and almost hit me in the face.
Homebase gave me my money back without any problems, and the lady at the till said they get loads of these returned for the same reason, i was disapointed they were not willing to remove it from sale.

I have had the spade for a good number of years, does the job for digging over soil and light work. It does bend under a bit of pressure and it doesnt take long for the paint to start coming off. Still its lasted me a few years so well worth the few quid.
