Think this is a good deal for those require unlimited 4G data on a rolling monthly (no ties) contract. This is a network called iD, which apparently use 3 mobile's(could be a problem for somebody) network. I could not find anything cheaper for the same amount of data. I have reservations about 3 mobile's network connections as well though.

Three offer unlimited 4G for £15 per month on a PAYG bundle:

"Unlimited" plans with iD have a 20GB data usage cap. Please bear in mind if you plan to have very high usage.
- ecosse87

The Plan is Truly Unlimited. Spoke with a lady at iD Customer Services who confirmed it with her manager. I asked "So if I use 150GB a month that would be ok?" Her reply "Of course, that is fine". Tethering however is not included.

Just as an aside, I've been with Three for the past few years and my contract provides me with unlimited data and 2Gb of tethering allowance. (Un)fortunately they don't seem to be able to distinguish between the two and I've been enjoying unlimited tethering ever since!

The point is. I don't pay extra unless I see progress. And I don't see much with any of the networks here apart from EE (Everything Expensive) but not worth paying over the odds for them.

And the same goes for handsets. I am about to ditch my HTC M8 in favour of my old Samsung Galaxy S3 which was significantly better to use. 4G isn't good enough where I live, so I am happy to stick with 3G until the progress really happens and it's worth paying for.

If you are using 3's PAYG services, tethering is not allowed within the t&c, although you may be able to confirm if tethering is technically functional by using the SIM in an unlocked non-3-branded device.

I it is possible to get around the block but im not going to promote breaking the terms and conditions.
If you want to tether the best legal way is to get a data or payg tarriff, both of those let you tether the amount of data you buy as they have limited data, the unlimited contracts may not allow tethering at all or have a 4gb limit.

I'm on the unlimited package with three for £10 a month (8 months into 12 month contract), I have terrible signal at home, only next to the front window so Three kindly sent me out a SIGNAL BOOSTER which connects to my router. They said if I lose or damage it I will have to pay £750 lol
feygor to sm-1991

Gotta be careful with signal boosters, make sure your broadband provider doesn't have a fair usage policy, if other people in your area use three you could be looking at 80-100GB download per month.
I know someone who has caught out with that before...

Native 3 network PAYG SIM with AIO-15 unlim data add-on. Random location with reasonable signal level showing on handset:
immediately prior to 15:00 (down / up / ping):
#01: 6.26 / 2.06 / 56
#02: 6.15 / 2.26 / 49
immediately after 15:00 (down / up / ping):
#01: 0.31 / 1.79 / 140
#02: 0.34 / 1.83 / 98
#03: 0.27 / 1.80 / 135.
Similar results if tethered to a windows machine.
Suggest my consistent personal experience and casual results above show data is slowed down after 15:00 daily, and significantly slowed down, whereas 3 states only p2p traffic is "slowed down" between 3pm-midnight in its KFI that can be viewed in any browser here.
Would be helpful if an ID customer could perform similar tests either side of 3pm & midnight. I posted that request in a previous ID thread but have not received any response.

12 Jun 15 #271
Only ref I can find to any defined limit is via a 3rd-party website that doesn't qualify its source. So read into this whatever you wish:
...iD Mobile plans and tariffs... all the way up to a hefty 20GB...
http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/providers/id-mobile
Otherwise the ID t&c simply appear to state:
5.3 You must not use the Services... including but not limited to:
5.3.4 tethering (unless explicitly stated in your Agreement with us), downloading, sending or uploading content of an excessive size, quantity or frequency. We will contact you if your use is excessive...

http://www.idmobile.co.uk/legal/terms-and-conditions
although as has been discussed at length within this thread, what is not allowed / against t&c can be significantly different to what is actually possible.

Occasionally topup £15 to sort the AIO-15 that inc unlim data for 30 days, just depends if I'll be working away from home for a while. No tethering issues whatsoever, allowing for the openly-stated daily 3pm-midnight heavy throttle.
I notice nobody has commented about any 3pm-midnight throttle on ID network; maybe it does not apply to either ID and/or monthly contract SIMs.

They can tell if you are tethering unless you replace the header in the stream. Whether they are bothering about checking for this or not is a different matter altogether. Using a Xiaomi Mi2 and I never had any problem tethering the odd times I did it.

Ofcom will soon be hosting interactive coverage maps for all of the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), research is currently being undertaken to see if some smartphones are better at transmitting and receiving a signal. The historical problems that 3 have had with indoor coverage relates to the spectrum which was allocated to them which is a higher frequency than their competitors, this is particularly evident in older houses with dense walls.

o2 Telefonica and Vodafone being the two legacy mobile networks, have the most sites in the UK which are currently running at or near to capacity. The coverage currently offered from 3 should mirror that offered by EE as they share the same infrastructure which is managed for them by a company called MBNL.

No MNO offers anywhere near total coverage indoors or outdoors, whoever you have a subscription with you will experience a partial not spot when on your travels (if you can only make an emergency call you are in a partial not spot, meaning no current coverage from your operator). This is all set to improve with the emergence of Mesh and Micro networks which are currently being piloted.

The best advice that I can offer if you are considering a move to a new operator, is to get a Pay As You Go SIM and test the performance of the operator in the locations most frequented by you.

Don't want to add to the disinformation being spouted in this thread, but to recite my personal experience with "the block page" when attempting to tether on native 3 network:
Whenever I attempted to tether using a 3 voice-SIM in a 3-branded device, I have been served the block page.
If I immediately transfer the same voice-SIM card to a non-3-branded device, I could tether without any issue.
I can only guess this is due to 3 knowing the IEMI numbers of its own devices and so being able to identify if a voice-SIM is being used as a data SIM, and so implements the block. Will happily stand corrected if this assumption is incorrect.
Obviously no idea if the same principle could be applied to ID network.
brookysm to Flipd
11 Jun 15 #252
Or the 3 branded phone has spyware installed...

My own personal experience with 3 is if you tether to another same none 3 branded device ie iPhone - iPad, Android Phone - Android Tablet then you are tethering blind to 3, their systems can't tell what you're doing but connect to a PC then they will.

I bought a sim only deal from 3 with all you can eat data for £20pm, to use in an iPad before going into hospital at the start of the year. Happily used it to watch films via Sky app, TV, music etc using the mobile data service, but after a few weeks (thankfully after coming out of hospital) I got the sim blocked message if I tried to use mobile data in the same iPad. Would this happen with this sim deal, as I was told it wouldn't happen with 3...but it did!

regards the coverage it depends outside it is ok but indoors youll get hardly any 3g or 4g and just be glad you have any signal at all, but with a little luck you can usually find a spot where for some reason data signal is there. I have managed to find such a place just on top of the home alarm button pad where it can get 2 points of 4G, but upstairs next to the window we can get 4bars of 4G. the only thing 3 network has got going for it is that it does unlimited data plans at a reasonable price, for coverage look to EE or vodafone it has always had full signal everywhere even inside hospitals where 3 shows No Service
jdelaney78 to sreenireddy
10 Jun 15 #207
CommentWhere are you? Some places coverage is great some places it isn't. Where I am, on O2, coverage is terrible but in cities it's great. On 3 coverage here is said to be very good at least according to friends and that's good enough for me.

If there's good coverage where you live with 3 this deal is hot, if their coverage in your area is poor then look for a deal with another network.
Steamy Wee to sreenireddy

Do please have in mind that the signal meter (Bars) on your phone do not always accurately show how strong the actual signal / quality is. For instance, have you had a fantastic crackle free conversation with what you might say is zero signal? Likewise terrible connection with full signal?

I have always used quality phones on Three and have never had issue in all the years I have been with them. There's not many places I've not been to in the UK mainland and have always been able to make a call, even when people on other networks have not been able to.

im on 3 contracts with 3, one is £9 a month, for the Ultimate Internet 500 deal with a phone, ie unlimited data, 500 Mins, 2000 3to3 mins, 5000 texts. I havent upgraded since then as even the salesperson told me i would be stupid to upgrade that deal simply for a new phone.

the other contract is a sim only deal, same as above but this has 600 minutes.which costs £12.50 pm
These same unlimited data deals now cost over £25 so even though i only need one i am keeping both.

Tethering is not allowed and 0800 numbers are not included although you can tether ( tricky though and prone to the dreaded "Are you using your phone as a hotspot" blocking page) i am not sure if 0800 will become included later.

the third contract is £18pm for 15GB data, it allows tethering but only the 15gb allowance. which isnt enough for my 2 kids and thier ipads.
the £20 ID deal for sim only is the only one that comes close to this, i was thinking of switching if tethering was included.

Three do a business deal of 1250min, unlimited data, unlimited tethering, unlimited texts for 17.50, but I am reticent to go for that deal incase it gets revoked like the one plan deal and then i will not be able to get back the 15GB deal as it is no longer offered unless you get a new ipad with them.

The old One Deal offered unlimited tethering. I'm on a rolling monthly contract with 3, and I am allowed 4gb per month tethering (if you're on a longer contract, you get 2gb allowance). The minutes and texts on this ID deal are much better though.

Now they are the best in the area for signal and speed, depending on the time of day and usage I regular get 5-18 mb download speed. I have a sim in Spain which my girlfriend uses and we speak for hours every night either on Whatsapp or Skype, we can tether to tablet also. the speed in Spain is rubbish because it is moviestar or similar, but we can talk and browse no problem for £15 a month is good value ( but limited to 25GB per month ) hope this helps for people traveling to Spain

Simple really, you are paying for a service which they cannot deliver. It is they who are in breach of contract, though they will probably have some rider to cover most outages. However, if they cannot provide the service, then they should allow you an exit, but you will probably have to ask and then to be prepared to fight a little.

I am with giffgaff on a unlimited 3G data usage, unlimited texts etc for 18 pounds a month. I am aware three does unlimited 4G but I ordered a sim months ago for them only to mess it up. I called three and they're terrible on the phone. So much I couldn't even join them! Now supposedly, this is a UK phone centre and be the only company offering 4G (apart of three) this is extremely hot. However I stream a lot of date, films whilst going to work. In London 4G is great but as soon as I leave, it's 3G. 3G streaming in London still works fine and because of this, giffgaff for me, is the best mobile sim to date.

Bizarre comparison to OP deal. VM do not currently offer a consumer-grade 4G package of any description, and once the VM "unlimited" monthly threshold of 3.5GB is reached, VM throttle the remainder of the month to a speed of just 384kbit/s downstream, 200kbit/s upstream. Anybody nuts enough to pay £18/month for that deal needs to have a very firm word with VM retentions to bring it down to the £7 / month like most others are paying for it, including myself.

I'm paying £15/month with GiffGaff for unlimited 4G, I don't get anywhere near the talk-time though (2000 minutes - isn't that a hour a day?), I do get unlimited texts as well, must dig out that SIM mega thread again...

Three offer unlimited 4G for £15 per month on a PAYG bundle:

Hi Folks,

Could anyone confirm if this plan supports tethering ?

Thanks
Treboeth to rford78
9 Jun 15 1 #75
As far as I understand it from other forums it`s a bit of a grey and confused area in the T&C with many reporting they can tether but the T&C stating it does not

If tethering is a deal breaker not to worry as you can cancel pretty quick.

And talktalk uses vodafone so excellent coverage and better than 3
roscopervis to toto123
9 Jun 15 2 #67
Are you joking? Vodafone has by far the worst coverage of any main network. This is constantly verified in tests such as Which? Three also have the best 3g coverage and speeds.
DealJourno
9 Jun 15 #63
Cold because it uses 3. They have some advantages like free roaming in quite a few places for their own customers. But to be honest their 4G coverage is very poor. They also use traffic shaping, so ID customers will be even further down the pecking list than 3 customers for 4G services.

I suspect they have pretty much stalled their 4G rollout in anticipation of the O2 takeover plans. Why would they pay for new infrastructure twice?
damadgeruk to DealJourno
9 Jun 15 #66
As noted previously, many of us have great 3G coverage (I often have 4G) which is perfectly capable for our needs. I just speedtested 5.35 Mbps down, 2.04 Mbps up, many people don't acheive such speeds on their landline broadband.
ganon
9 Jun 15 #65
I'm getting very very poor signal for 4g even though my area is covered. They said it might be a faulty sim which I doubt. They also said they will send a signal boost and a call from their tech team which I haven't yet

Impossible. At least it is now. Because you have to add your phones number to the allowed list and there's a max of 5 numbers I think it is.

I've been using it since launch now and can't fault it the data is great and fast get 4G everywhere I go, always been a bit warey about 3 but have to say has been better then my o2 line have sworn by then Fir the last 18 months as the best network to have. Was paying £38 Fir Ultd calls and text with 5gb data on o2, but now for £20 plus rolling contract can't go wrong.
paulwmather

Three actually have the best data network in my experience. Far better than O2 for example. Their call network isn't as good as some of the others but still perfectly respectable.

qwerta369 to Deal Searcher

Yes. With 3G and 4G networks you can use data while simultaneously being on a phone call. This is not possible with 2G networks (GPRS or EDGE data services).

I've been on iD for a few weeks and use my phone in Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire. So far I've had excellent coverage and much better 3g than Giffgaff, who I moved from after about 5 years. Not a bad deal really, heat added.

All their cheaper tariffs are very competitive and attractive, till you realise that if you use over your limit then the mandatory buffer gets used and you end up paying 5£ more every month.

this deal however, if yo use those allowances, then you clearly have no life

With any plan that doesn't allow tethering, such as the one you mention and this one, the point is that they do not allow tethering, not that you can't. Of course you can but if they find out then they reserve the right to charge extra/disconnect you from their service.
