Be sure to factor in the potential cost of BluRay playing software. VLC will not play BluRays as default, it has the potential to play them but requires some manual modification that did not always work for me.
In the end I decided to buy PowerDVD from Cyberlink which worked perfectly.I believe I paid £45 at the time.
Just a cost to be aware of.

Gooooooood point!.
WinDVD does 'similar' to the more popular PowerDVD, & WinDVD would have cost a wee bit less?.
But good informative heads-up you've given everyone though, to be well AWARE OF still? .. aa I for one was NOT sure if this came with Software or not? (as 'some' do ..... )
Thanx. :-)

Not done one for a while, probably about 10 years thinking about it, but optical drives on laptops used to be a nightmare to fit...
Heat for the price OP!

I bought a full sized drive from Amazon, about £25 iirc and came with a bundled PowerDVD key. Drive was DOA so I sent it back, and bought a replacement elsewhere. I'd already activated the key mind, CS said it wasn't an issue....

Yep, but this is much more useful being a bluray reader too.
I have not used a computer DVD player in 3 years..... jesus these things still exist ?

Yeah but better in an iptv, cinavia killed bluray and uhd disks tbh then you can bypass the protection with older pc playing software. Either that or get a bog standard dvd player and use convert x to dvd or get a terrabyte drive but being mechanical can go wrong and you lose everything unless you mirror it onto another. I dont keep films anymore but still torrent them prefer this as i play them without an internet connection im still old school even with mp3s

I'm after an external bluray reader so I can play films on my laptop.
Thanks
