I know it's not exactly a high spec phone, but for £20, it makes an excellent back up phone which you can still message, facebook, look stuff and places up etc.

The resolution and performance is miles away from the iPhone but it is at least capable of running a few Android games / apps.
I got the similarly-spec'd LG L30 for £10 a few months ago and I wouldn't expect my daughter to like it but it does well in the car as an offline satnav (Nokia Here).
Edit: heat for the deal as there's so much you can do with a cheap phone that you'd need more than £20 for if you were to buy a dedicated item (GPS, Remote Control, MP3 player, etc)

I suspect she'd be disappointed - the 480x320 resolution and only a single-point touch screen will seem like a very (very) distant cousin to the iPad - but at that price you could take a chance without too much risk
The Huawei Y330 at Argos starts at £34.99 - yes its nearly twice the price, but I found that a very capable entry-level phone for my 10 year old daughter.

No inbuilt compass so cannot do walking or driving sat nav with rotation. I didn't expect that and no flash

Another confirmation that it is unlocked here.
As my first Android phone it's fine. I'll just use it as a music player if I don't like it as a phone. It catalogs a full 16gb micro SD card full of music in minutes then plays the music with no hassle; spotify is super easy to set up; I can use bluetooth to transmit to my speaker thing very easily; and also it's real easy to create youtube playlists to transmit to my Now TV box while sat on the sofa. Job done. Everything seems pretty slick so far.
For £20 minus the possible £5 by linking the sim to a nectar card = £15 this is pretty amazing value.

I got one today it works fine faster than a Huawei G300 with custom ROM. I've not added any microSD and the phone runs fine very responsive. I've a OnePlus and a Nexus4 and while this is nowhere near the speed of the One Plus it is still nippy. Even the screen (plastic cover not glass I think) is quite bright and very usable even video playback seems smooth. The stock software supplied is very slick and there are nice touches like having the phone power down at a specific time each day and power up at a specific time.
I tried the Google Experience Launcher and it was a bit slower than I liked. I tried the Holo laucher it was ok but I went back to stock. I removed Facebook, Twiter etc as I do not need them. Install VOIPSTUNT and esFileExplorere, TuneinRadio and MX Player all fine.
Sure this is not a superfast machine but it makes the most of what it has a very compelling unit well made. Even the on board speaker is fine for music and audio - Clear an no distortion. The screen is good enough for Video. It not a patch on the AMOLED or jLCD IPS unit but this is not in that price range.

There are 43 phone variants with the name. This model sold by Sainsburys does not come with Firefox or Windows Phone it is Android Kitkat. It is not stock it has a light weight launcher which is clean. There is very little bloat on the phone. The social media apps that come pre installed can be removed just my uninstalling.
There is no need to unlock the phone it is not carrier locked. I dropped in a full size 3 SIM PAYG and it works.
It is a 3g phone and there is no GPS.
The audio and video is good for an entry level phone.
The battery can be removed and the case is easy to open.
I think the screen might be plastic (not gorilla glass) also lots of people seem to forget that this phone is part of a range called Pixi 3. However this is one model from the range.

Was out today not sure. I've used the phone for 38 mins on battery with the screen on and playing music via WiFi internet radio and made some SIP calls over WiFi using VOIPStunt and its at 86% I think it would make through a short day of moderate use and perhaps a long day of light use. Will use it for a few days and report back.
It also has battery saving mode so I will give this a try too and report back.
A couple of things. I wanted to use this for my parents who have no smartphone to let them make VOIP calls from home. The remote support on this is AMAZING. I installed teamviewer Quck Support on the phone via the playstore.
When I ran it said download a special module for this supported device (Alcatel remote) I installed this and from the Free Teamviewer client on my PC I can remote into the phone and add apps, check things etc. Perfect for remote support of less tech savy users.
Really starting to like the customisations they have made to this phone. I tested the Wifi and left it streaming radio for 24 hours no disconnections or issues at all.
The phone does slow down (1 or 2 second delay) when switching apps or launching something. That might be just the tiny memory on this unit.
Audio quality was very good even the built in speaker seems nice for music! Great unit - really growing on me.
For me the biggest down side are 1) Plastic Screen (I think it is anyway as its not cold like glass to touch 2) no GPS 3) Screen size (the resolution and colour / view angle are quite good very usable)

Looked at the battery stats the standby on this unit is exceptional. Woke up this morning unit on 79% around 9am when out made a few calls, then home and WiFi calls and its at 49% after 13h 37mins which is excellent. This inlcude an hour or so of remote controlling the phone last night. I've not tried the battery save mode but this should be fine for a normal working day. Might get even longer if battery save mode is enabled. I've been running it full brightness, BT and WiFi on Mobile data off.
Also found more software options for silent when face down, shake to shuffle, etc sure that can be added with apps but this is all built in. Zero crashes, restarts and no problems remoting into the unit.

25 May 15#82
I think one of the key things is this is not supposed to be a power device, or for doing lots of stuff with. It's a basic task device, and as long as you use it as such, battery life should be pretty decent. ie. Last you at least the whole day. Sadly lots of higher end devices don't last much longer than that, but they're used for far more.

" who have no smartphone to let them make VOIP calls from home" do you mean this uses internet wifi to make calls? And so this 'data' would not be billed to my Vodafone Pay As You Go? And I could use WiFi hotspots when out and about to similarly use internet data and not phone data?
(quick summary I only have an old mobile - not smart at all {me and the phone!} and only use about £20 a year on Pay As You go with calls and texts. Recently got a Tablet and know I can get Free WiFi from the likes of McDonalds/Shopping centers etc).

25 May 152#84
Thanks for asking. I use a Service call VOIPStunt this uses a technology called SIP. This is standard for making calls over the internet.
What I did was set up an account on VOIPSTUNT for the minimum amount I think it was 10 or 15 Euro.
For this I got something like 120 Freedays. During this time I could make around 300 minutes of calls to any of their Free destinations. Like the UK or USA etc check their website. There are other service run my the SAME parent company call VOIPBUSTER etc they are much the same but the list of free countries is not the same. The countries can change.
So with my account I can do a few things
1. I can install an app on my PC and using the headset and mic I can make call to real phones using my WiFi at home.
2. I can use the same app on my Windows Laptop to make calls when I travel at free WiFi hotspots
3. I can install and Android App on my phone or tablet (the tablet must have a microphone!) to make calls over WiFi at home and when I travel. Apple users cannot make calls only Android.
4. Ok now this one is a bit different. I use ANY web browser PC / MAC / iPhone / Linux / Smart TV and login tot he VOIPSTUNT web page. I can now send SMSs. I can also use a ringback feature this is not free but useful in some instances. With Ringback I enter MY PHONE number e.g. home or hotel direct dial and the number I want to call on the ringback web page. I then press the ringback button on the page. My phone will ring as its incoming this does not cost me anything. I pick up my phone. I hear a ringing tone (as if I'd phones a number) and the person I wanted to dial picks up. I get connected and speak. There is a ringback connection fee, but the call costs the same e.g. free or whatever the per minute rate is!
5. I can send SMS from anywhere in the world for the same price using a web page
6. I have a device at home called an ATA (analogue telephone adaptor) this connects to my router and my DECT phone. I can pick up the phone and dial all the outcoing calls go via VOIPSTUNT. There is a setup for the ATA where I enter my VOIPSTUNT details.
7. When out and about the WiFi quality varies a lot! Sometimes calls are excellent no issues. I use a Free Andrio App calls WiFi Analyser to set up my home WiFi optimally so there is minimum interference from neighbours etc. and also when travelling to locate a good signal and fine the best place to get a signal The signal meter beeps faster as the signal gets strong so it is easy to find the place with the best reception. There is a meter too and you can turn off the beeping if you don't want to look like you are using a metal detector!
8. When the Freedays run out don't panic just burn through your credit! Mine lasts fo ages (several years!) then when you need to top up top up the MINIMUM as you get the same allocation of freedays regardless of how much credit you buy!
9. I have a LinkSys SPA3000 at home this also support an incoming phone line. So folk call me on my BT line and I pick as normal. All outbound calls go via VOIPSTUNT. I've set it up to route 0800 numbers via BT.
10. Skype is expensive for calls I only use Skype on my PC or Phone for 0800 calls which are free as are US 1-800 numbers. Great for tech support and conference calls.
11. I use the caller ID feature in VOIP stunt to show my home number when I make calls.
12. In the Andriod App these is a diagnostic test to see if there are issues with your connection that might impact calls.
I've used the VOIPSTUNT service for years. There is no real tech support or customer support. Their costs are superlow. The service is ultra reliable. They are based in Europe (Swiss / German) the company was started by 2 Brits.

Anyone help with basic wifi? On the phone I go to wifi section and I see my router name. I put in the password to connect and the mobile screen tells me "Saved, secured with WPA2" but I do not get the status icon showing for being connected to a wifi network. And then if I try Chrome or App Centre (which I'm assuming is a webpage of downloadable apps) I am told with Chrome "you are offline" and with App Centre "Failure to load, tap to refresh". There is also something called Browser which says "Web page unavailable" and the page is google.co.uk so I doubt it.
So its like its connecting but not really doing so.
When I recheck in the wifi 'page' of the phone sometimes it says "Authentication problem" Under the name of my router while I'm less than a meter from the router and signal strength is "Excellant".
frownbreaker
26 May 15#87
That's odd. I had some issues at first I had to restart my router then all fine. Now connects without issue.
Are you using WPA2 for the security on the router? Avoid WEP and Wi-Fi Protected Setup both have security issues. What is the make and model of the router? Long shot but check what channel the routers is on. I assume its 2.4Hz unit?
If the restart does not work. Delete the Wifi setting and reconnect.
If that fails try a static IP address I've had issue with AP that do not provide an IP address correctly and you see the symptoms that you are reporting.
Meathotukdeals
26 May 15#88
I have little idea what I'm using for security apart from giving it a different password (think I may have changed something else when I was doing this when I got the tablet) - the one I definately changed was the password you need to connect to the router with (in place of the password printed on the router) - it worked to connect my tablet anyway and the Now TV box. This may help? Am trying the routher restart but looked at the phone after I turned it off. Now it says "Secured with WPA/WPA2 (WPS Available)". It then went to my router "Not in range" And when I click on that message I get Security WPA/WPA2 PSK. Up to getting the tablet I have been wired all the time.
Restarted the router, authenticated to my router, press "Connect" but no wifi connected icon and same thing Chrome "You are not online". :disappointed:
Going to call this a night otherwise I will be up till the wee hours getting my knickers in a twist trying to understand what's going on.
Now noticed "Authentication Problem" under the name of my router and i'm still about 30 cm from the router.
Meathotukdeals
26 May 15#89
Sorry forgot to say its a Sky router
BUT I must be doing something fundamentally wrong because I just clicked "forget" for my router and, just to see, I put the PIN (printed on the router) in as the password the phone asked for, pressed "connect" and got the exact same "Saved Secured with WPA2" message. So putting the PIN in or putting the Password in give me Authentication but no connection.

27 May 15#90
Figured it out. "Saved, secured with WPA2" is not connected as I thought it meant. When you are connected to wifi it says "Connected".

And more importantly anyway to force data for apps through WiFi and not SIM? (again looking through the menus I cannot find anything like this).

Ahh thank you I was messing around with the apps (Calendar and Clock) when it turns out (I think - looks the closest to out the box anyhow) it was the Widget for Weather I wanted.
I cannot see this On/Off switch on Data Usage tho. I will find the SIM - maybe if I put that in the phone it will activate an alternative option. I realised today I can use that anyhow. It will have zero credit so running with that should hopefully allow me to manage SIM vs WiFi with maybe pop-up messages about data choices (supposing available credit is not a 'choice' issue).
EDIT
Yup now with SIM in place I have a Data Usage On/Off. I also found another new option in the submenue - to Turn Off Background Data under the new Vodafone Contract tab.
Phone seems slower to start tho now with SIm inplace and the Weather Widget refused to update. Needed a system restart to update (via wifi presumably).

With a SIM in the battery life will be lower (as it has to power up the 3G chips and the GSM circuit = the phone part of device) when you have no SIM you are only running the "Smart" part of the device - no phone.
The device has more to do now....
1. Power switch pressed
2. Power up Smart part of phone, load screen, boot Linux / Andriod
3. Power up GRM Radio and listen for a valid signal (GSM spec state the device MUST be able to recieve a valid signal before any GSM transimition is made
4. SIM card has to boot and run code (its acually a small computer)
5. Phone requests data from SIM, and copies data from SIM need like your ESN (this is how the network know its your phone!) etc.
6. Estiablish communications with mobile base and register ESN

8. Update the andriod system sofftware with signal strength etc and enable the elements in the GUI for 3g data and the SIM
This might a few seconds to the boot time. If you are in a poor signal area it might take a bit longer. Also the FIRST time you boot with a SIM there are setup events on the phone and the SIM (the network needs to register the new ESN for example) which can extend the boot time futher.
Remember if this is your first smart phone you can do lots of new things with the Pixi

Picked up the last one at Dulwich store as a French phone for my wife. Used a free Three sim as an adaptor for the French micro sim and it works just fine. For £20 it's an absolute bargain

Thanks again.
What is an AMP? I'm getting the obvious 'amplifier' and 'amperage' ect search results.
I'm pretty new to touch screens too. The tablet has a touch screen but not used it much and the screen is much bigger. On the phone I'm doing lots of typos. Any recommendations for software? Such as CCleraner for PC etc. Just something to help me keep it running smoothly.
Anyone tried a micro SD card bigger than 32Gb? Would like to get a 64Gb if it works?

AMP in this case does mean Amplifier, but I'm guessing they're referring to a Home Cinema Amplifier. If you're having problems with typing, try swiftkey, it has a great auto correct system, and if you let it access your email , facebook accounts etc then it gets very good at predicting your next word. It improves over time as you use it.
Maintenance wise, Android is pretty good. I don't generally think anything is necessary these days. A few years ago, it was possibly a different story. As for other apps, it very much depends on what you want to do with the phone....

29 May 15#103
Ah well no surprise there... I don't have a home cinema either. And I think it was Swiftkey I use but I have what was once described as spoon fingers - my fingertips are not slim.
I know I could Google it and spend an hour or two, but can I ask if you think I need basic things like antivirus and firewall (was just watching Ideal World on TV selling a smart phone and they had antiviurs with the phone..LOL yes this is where I get my tech news from!!).

No need for AV on a smart phone. But it is worth installing Google Device manager. Then you can remote wipe the phone or make it ring remotely if you have misplaced it. You can also remote activate a PIN lock. All useful and free of charge (your phone needs to be on line Wifi or 3G) for this to work

I'd really avoid this snake oil antivirus stuff especially on a phone like the Pixi with rock steady stock install. It is very clean there is no need to bog the phone down with bloat like this. Google have said there is no need for AV on Android, Apple take the same view on iOS. Both were developed as hardened secure boot, sign binary, embedded systems with digitally signed apps and kill switches. These are not like Windows PCs no need for AV and on a phone like this you do not have the CPU or memory headroom.

Hey Frownbreaker. Tried the Google speak thing. Actually replicated something I saw on Ideal World ("OK Google what came first the chicken or the egg") and got Google Girl giving me the answer by voice. £20 and it does that! Amazing.

Not really. I know from PC's there a whole new world out there. This being my first move to Android and smart phone I was just looking for shortcuts from people in the know. For instace Frownbreaker mentioned widgets are not apps in a short line which was very useful to me. I might have spent a lot more time trying to get some apps to behave as widgets without actually finding out doing that was impossible. Can't place a £ cost to time spent achieveing nothing .

The phone is unlocked. Use of the phone is okay and you don't need to import sim contacts. The audio of both speakers are terrible, even at this price.

31 May 15#113
It has one speaker and is fine no distortion or problems. A bluetooth speaker or headphones would make sense for music for audio (mono) this is fine. As the bluetooth it a digital out the quality wll be as good as the source as the BT chips are much the same. The audio out (stereo) is fine I've a range of headphones AKG, BT and Sure all sounded fine with this unit.

Glad to here it. There is also the carrier part of the Salisbury SIM but I've not tried that. I have a micro SIM cutter from ebay and keep the cutout when I need to shrink a normal sim to micro.

31 May 15#115
I beg to differ on the quality of the sound. There are 2 speakers from what I can see when opening the back cover. I carried the test twice on a normal call and using whatsapp calling feature. The loud speaker vibrates considerably with a hollow sound, I even tried reducing the volume but found no improvement in the audio quality. In a normal call, I found the audio at a reduced volume level.
frownbreaker
1 Jun 15#116
That's odd mine has a single port on the rear I assumed it was a single speaker as the device is not large enough to allow stereo imaging. The distortion you hear is that the same on audio playback say BBC Radio 4 on iPlayer?
With normal calls I've not had issues, VOIP I tend to turn off Auto gain. I've not used What's App. Have you tried with Wire or other high quality VOIP apps? Clearly you have distortion if its during calls in one app it might be the app but you have reported issues on cell phone calls which suggest a problem with the hardware.
I've just purchased a second one will double check the set-up and audio and report back.
When you say the loudspeaker vibrates do you mean it distort the sound or you feel it vibrating in your hand?

Looking for one of those rubber/plastic/silicone cases that go round the back and sides of a smartphone for this. Can't find anything on ebay or amazon, even from China. Just pouches and flip cases. Anyone got any ideas?
frownbreaker
1 Jun 15#118
I found the selection of cases poor. I wanted a flip cover along the side. Went for a PU pouch eBay item number:201276151049 as it was 1) Cheap 2) One of the few for the 3.5" model most of the Pixi 3 cases are for the 4" or larger! I could fine no cases in China or anywhere. I know this is really a Hong Kong Phone that Alcatel rebadge, look in phone about... Perhaps we might have more luck looking with the HK name and model - which I've not been able to find! The web site is http://www.tcl,com I could not fine the 3.5" Pixi equivalent only newer units
Thanks I found that one today too! I think more cases are coming on sale!

Good suggestion.
I bought the Alcatel as recommended and as a mp3player it is v good, even playing videos too from wifi and microsd.
I set it with apps to read ebooks to fall asleep to using a Welsh English voice. Very nice.
It does sometimes spontaneously reboot if I have too many things going on at once.
I saw in an ee shop two android smartphones both at 20pounds but needing 10to20pound topup.
Checked on ee website and one is listed as http://shop.ee.co.uk/mobile-phones/pay-as-you-go/alcatel-pop-c1-payg/details
am looking at these whether a gps chip included but am not sure nor if unlocked.

It's gone up by a fiver but I've still just ordered one - We need something like 2.1 phones at the moment - they keep breaking!
Meathotukdeals
4 Jun 15#123
Me too. Seems this is quite an old Pixie 3 coming in at version 3.5. Looking through ebay for cases, I noticed some were described as 400something or other. Which prompted me to look again at the Quick Start Guide which is for the 4009D (Dual SIM) and the 4009X which, by deduction my Dear Watson, is the model number of this deal. Still hard to find anything tho!

Ah Frownbreaker on the case again. Ho ho too funny...for laughter! :man: Now I see the AliExpress states OT-4009X.
Because of what FrownBreaker said about the screen being plastic (so likely easily scratched) I picked up some cheap screen protectors from Currys. Will need to cut them down but hey they are 10p and 21p. I know its dodgy but they have an option for In Store Collection to indicate if they have any in stock at your nearest branch.
I got this case Ebay ID 141568024290 and it is pants the suckers will not grip the phone at all. Its like some crap from the 1970. Wrong size and the phone falls out! AVOID
I purchased this case Ebay ID 201276151049 and while basic it works well. The pull tab is excellent, pop the phone in and slide the tab and it lifts the phone from the case enough for you to hold the phone with ease. Really nice design. Materials are good for £1.99 Recommended.
I've also ordered a Magnetic case Ebay Id 171661556707 its in the post.....

21 Jun 151#127
Yes of the 3 cases I purchased this was the best PU pouch eBay item number:201276151049
The ribon pull works really well.. Pull the tab and the phone is lifted out of the pouch by 3 cm so you can grab it to remove it from the case. Just pop the phone in and the tab resets nice simple design. Materiel is cheap but works and looks smart. You are not going to get a premium quality case at this price. This cases is excellent phone fits well even after several days in the case no stretch etc. very nice.
The magnetic flip cases was almost identical but the fit and material were not as good (too tight marginally) as the basic non magnetic case.
In other news I know there was talk of audio issues with the loudspeaker. Tested my second unit and it was fine like the first perhaps a hardware issue on some units? I've had no distortion or audio problems.

Anyone still haunting this thread? I have noticed most times when I have allowed an app to update its reported the DL was corrupted and to DL again. DL again and same corrupt message. Edit: Did a factory reset and deleted/disabled a load of apps and now it works fine. Battery life well over 24 hours, sometimes days, depending on usage.
Mine started malfunctioning in a few ways, got slower, then the battery life dwindled to about 8 hours over which I just used it for about 10 minutes of calls, one or two texts and about 5 minutes of wifi, with the 3g connection turned off throughout. Useless as a phone. Just about acceptable as a music player for travelling with.

Confirmed as unlocked by several people now. The full specifications and model numbers are available here http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/global-en/products/smartphones/pixi_3_3-5.html#.VV7ae-mqqko
I know it's not exactly a high spec phone, but for £20, it makes an excellent back up phone which you can still message, facebook, look stuff and places up etc.
Vennrod - "just purchased, can confirm that it works on a 3 sim."

Whats MBS? lol.
Does anybody know if this would need a SIM to use as a media device?
I was thinking that perhaps a spare pocket camera / games player for kids if no sim required. Just using wi fi?
but yes it will work even with sim card removed
SIM not required.

Thanks
Do you only get £5 of top-up when you pay £10 . . . .or is it £5 off a £10 top-up . . . or is it a £5 voucher to top-up . . . or is it a £5 voucher to spend on sweeties etc. ?
Looking at the specs the screen isn't even multitouch.
The Huawei Y330 at Argos starts at £34.99 - yes its nearly twice the price, but I found that a very capable entry-level phone for my 10 year old daughter.
besides the mums your talking about post their photos on Facebook so all their friends can see!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu&hl=en_GB
No inbuilt compass so cannot do walking or driving sat nav with rotation. I didn't expect that and no flash
But its a basic unlocked ie sim free mobile which can do Facebook. Whatsapp. Footy results. Maps etc.... Hard to beat for £20 in store without needing a top up
dunno what swagbucks is! it can run youtube and netflix but the screen is only 160ppi i think... ie pretty poor but £20 for a 512mb computer with screen
it is fairly responsive as dual core kitkat but it does of course lag a bit
Updated most apps and added a few still have 1.16gb left
At worst this is a cheap mp3 player! Speaker is pretty poor but with headphones its ok
Heat added!Thanks for good deal!
All I use is about £20 a year on Vodafone Pay as you go - calls and tests. Could I just put my sim card in this or will I have problems like with "rolling bundles" sounding like you have to pay an amount every so often regardless of use?
Yes I am not 'with it' young hipsters.
When you first use the phone it takes a while to pull down the updated apps over wifi.
Works well as a phone both cell and Wifi Calling via VOIP.
GUI is smooth and fast.
No need to root or unlock or reflasg. Works out of the box.
Exceptional value. No GPS but Wifi and Bluetooth etc all fine. Simple and cheap.
Excellent.
Purchase instore today. £20 there was a SIM in the box I did not use it. It takes a full size SIM
However this is one model from the range.
remember this an ultra budget phone, this would have been around £50 a few years back
I am planning to use it as a Sat vav using Here app.
Thanks in advance
1) Can I have it delivered to my local store?
2) I have some Sainburys paper vouchers? Can I use for this online transaction?
2) No idea contact their customer services?
Also found more software options for silent when face down, shake to shuffle, etc sure that can be added with apps but this is all built in. Zero crashes, restarts and no problems remoting into the unit.
(quick summary I only have an old mobile - not smart at all {me and the phone!} and only use about £20 a year on Pay As You go with calls and texts. Recently got a Tablet and know I can get Free WiFi from the likes of McDonalds/Shopping centers etc).
So its like its connecting but not really doing so.
When I recheck in the wifi 'page' of the phone sometimes it says "Authentication problem" Under the name of my router while I'm less than a meter from the router and signal strength is "Excellant".
Anyone know how to get the day, date sun and moon back on the home screen? (nothing i can find in calendar or time apps).
And more importantly anyway to force data for apps through WiFi and not SIM? (again looking through the menus I cannot find anything like this).
Or do this with the free Sainsbury SIM most are dual format with pre-cut
To re add the weather etc you need to add a Widget not an App (Ask if this makes no sense)
7. Now you nework provide knows were you are so calls to your phone number will route to the base station (cell tower) you are registered with

What is an AMP? I'm getting the obvious 'amplifier' and 'amperage' ect search results.

Maintenance wise, Android is pretty good. I don't generally think anything is necessary these days. A few years ago, it was possibly a different story. As for other apps, it very much depends on what you want to do with the phone....
I know I could Google it and spend an hour or two, but can I ask if you think I need basic things like antivirus and firewall (was just watching Ideal World on TV selling a smart phone and they had antiviurs with the phone..LOL yes this is where I get my tech news from!!).

I think the same phone is sold by Orange

This might be what you are after?

Again take care as lots of these are for phones > 3.5"
would appreciate any case recommendations and suppliers
I bought the Alcatel as recommended and as a mp3player it is v good, even playing videos too from wifi and microsd.
I set it with apps to read ebooks to fall asleep to using a Welsh English voice. Very nice.
It does sometimes spontaneously reboot if I have too many things going on at once.
I saw in an ee shop two android smartphones both at 20pounds but needing 10to20pound topup.
Checked on ee website and one is listed as

am looking at these whether a gps chip included but am not sure nor if unlocked.
