£250 is a great price for a Saeco bean to cup machine - this one's normally £350, still listed at £399 RRP in some places, cheapest Amazon deal is £290. John Lewis suddenly stopped accepting orders the other day but it's back on sale again now.
It's the "pannarello" version with a steam wand - not to be confused with the cheaper steam-less one or the more expensive automatic cappuccino maker.
Can't vouch for this particular model, but my old equivalent Saeco BTC (Odea Go) cost £375 and has churned out three or four coffees a day for just under five years. Put in good beans and give the brew group a good rinse once a week and it should keep you caffeinated for ages.

Gets good reviews, good spot OP.
Any news why JL are stopping stocking this brand?

They have started stocking some frighteningly expensive 'Sage by Heston Blumenthal' models. That might account for it.

Thats not a bad price for a bean to cup coffee maker, I would be tempted if I didnt already have a coffee maker. Heat added OP.

Sorry but I disagree. I venture to add that it's a ridiculous price for a bean to cup coffee maker. I had one a long time ago that was made by Toshiba - yes that Toshiba - that made filter coffee through a gold plated washable filter and it only cost £40. Given inflation I suggest that this thing is only worth £100 tops.
Unfortunately the heating element on my Toshiba burnt out and they no longer made spares so game over.
Shame cos I would willingly spend £100 on a replacement now but £250? Don't be daft!

Currently have a Tassimo and quite pleased with the coffee but don't like the plastic waste it produces.
Tempted by one of these but will it make as good or better than tassimo? Will coffee work out cheaper?

Tassimo is not proper coffee. It's ok for milky drinks but this machine will produce espresso. Different league altogether. Decent beans are around £3.50 per 250g which will easily make 20 cups.

Much, much better coffee, dont worry about cost you need to use freshly roasted beans (not the Illy, Taylors etc garbage you see in supermarkets)

Tassimo is no better than service station vending machine hot drinks.

It definitely works out way cheaper to go bean to cup, especially if you enjoy more than an occasional caffeine fix.
The cost of pods made me hesitant to get through more than two a day, I treated a nice coffee as a luxury, since getting our machine (DeLonghi Magnifica) it's become the default option.

I've got this exact machine. Had it 18 months. It cost me the exact same price then.
£250 on sale from £300. So not sure if that reflects on the bargain?
Anyway. It's a great coffee machine. Easy to use, clean, fill, empty. Etc.
Would recommend it.

Bad grinders and poor temperature control ruin good coffee- the all-in-one machines tend to compromise in most areas. I could never recommend a bean to cup machine, even one costing five times as much.
I can, however, recommend a £20 aeropress- team this up with freshly roasted, ground coffee (from Has Bean, Rave, Pact etc) and you will enjoy sublime coffee for pennies

Fantastic machine and well worth the investment. I got this from Jl last year when it was on sale for £175 iirc. Even at £250 it's great value. My Tassimo is now redundant.
The reservoir water tank is small and some people think that the coffee can be on the cold side if you like a lot of milk, but I like it black so not an issue for me.
Easy to clean and gives a fresh cup of Joe in minutes.
I have that machine and bought from .de warehouse a year ago for €220 one of my best purchases ever, have made 5/6 coffees a day and it hasn't missed a beat

Am I the only one that thinks they double the price, as soon as it has Heston's name on it? They do it on Waitrose food too. Maybe my taste buds are not sophisticated enough for his style
But yes.... those prices are eye-watering!

I'd rather drink cold Nescafe than anything these bean to cups can produce. They don't have stepless grinding to dial in the beans. I can make a better coffee from a £5 french press.

Costco have some good prices for coffee beans. 907g of the espresso roasted by Starbucks is just £7.99 and when it's in a Latte it certainly good enough !
Apart from what appears to be a larger bean container, not sure what difference there is

In the Odea brew group, there's a long track-like thing running down the inside (both sides) - I put a bit in there few months. It's a pretty fiddly job, though. There are some guides on Youtube too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J4FCY4yOvk

Why is it when a good bean to cup machine comes along at a good price you get the Tassimo and coffee mill brigade pop up saying how good their products are. Bean to cup machines are far better, but it's all in the bean you choose!!
cossy3
10 May 151#38
If by that, you mean I am a hipster then I disagree. If you think these machines produce good coffee, I would have to say you don't know what good coffee tastes like. This is a money saving site, people don't need to throw their money away on this rubbish.

Not really. The thing is with Heston's stuff is that the quality really is there. Knowing some of the manufacturers for his Wait rose products I can assure you that they do use far better ingredients and are much more specific about which ingredients they use in the product. Therefore a higher price.

Personally I would get a delonghi esam ... I have a esam it's around 5 years old .. works well still after around 10000 shots ... at least ... my parents have this machine and it's not as easy to use and the grind on the coffee is not as fine or extracted as well .
