Apparently people in USA call it Baking Soda.
in the U.K. it's known as bicarbonate of soda!
So I've read.

This was used in Bad Boys by Martin Laurence's character to clean the dog poo on the carpet in Mike's apartment when Luke-y and Dookey were ill. Although it was described as furniture polish by Tea Leoni's character.
I could be wrong on this. For some reason I know nearly every line in that film...

Not really. It's the standard price in most pound shops so it's just good value, not really a good deal.

how is it different from soda crystals (0.69p/1 kg) in asda?

Completely different stuff. Don't get them confused.
Between the two of them, plus maybe spirit vinegar, there is probably no household cleaning task that can't be done as well, if not better, than with the plethora of cleaning products on the shelves. Most of which are mainly water. But hey, you get a nice trigger bottle sprayer with those. Many manufacturers are now stopping the screw tops on those, so they can't be reused by canny folk like us who refill with our own brew of cleaner, made for pennies and better.

I get 5kg for £6 in WingYip but this is decent for a smaller quantity. Supermarkets are well overpriced for it.

We saw this a while back, but ever since we've just seen empty shelves. As with napolimp we're also checking 99p stores where possible. It's remarkably popular, especially when regular supermarkets sell a quarter for more than twice the price.

By the way, couldn't find any in my local Poundland, but got it in the 99p store instead.
Thanks
