That's some price for a game that has a lot of gaming hours! I spent way over 80 or 90 hours on this. Have the platinum for it too. Such a masterpiece and is worth getting! It got me into JRPG.

And it's under 150Kr on the Czech store if you've got left-over credit from the failed Battlefield: Hardline deal.
(As are Demon's Souls, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and Mass Effect -- all great ways to use up that credit)

I got this when it was this price last time, just a little tip that because of the memory it downloads in two parts. Just sharing because when I went back to my download list I was confused as why there were two versions of the game.

Seems that the comments are always roundly positive for this game, personally I love the look and feel of the game but I haven't played more than an hour or two because I find the combat absolutely horrific, haven't got a clue what's going on, is it turn based or is it real time?
The game doesn't even know.
CoolDude0123 to TommyNooka
25 Mar 15#32
Like a mixer of both but more real time. Bit more like Tales Of instead of Kingdom Hearts (by this I mean you can pause to swap character, etc). You need to move around and attack. When I played the demo I hated it because I didn't know what I was doing. Didn't know I could move around. lol

Yep exactly, it doesn't improve either, extremely basic and sluggish.

Over rated imo, massively.
1st 1-2 hours is brilliant and makes you think the world is only going to get more interesting but to be honest, you've seen the best it has to offer by that point and creativity, story, locations, voice acting and well everything really just goes totally stale, it doesn't develop the fantastic setup it created.
As far as JRPGs go I'm afraid it's awful taking it all as one package.
Sure it's pretty and artsy but like said, that soon wears thin...real shame.
^To say this is up there with Chrono Trigger is bonkers, Chrono Cross for a start is way better, any tales game is better, Lost Oddyssey, blue dragon (though that was pants in a similar way to ni no kumi and looked worse, better gameplay though)...
People just got suckered by the ghibli artwork, high end production values and forgave all the bad stuff as a result.

I tried to like this game - I really did - but it's really, really not that great.
The story is - well - it's several reading levels below Harry Potter - and the characters are VERY childish. You play a super-wet-and-whiny kid and you're spending the whole game with a welsh 'fairy' who will talk ENDLESSLY about EVERYTHING
and I mean EVERYTHING - EVERYTHING is markered and signposted and hinted and - he even interrupts big fights to tell you what you should be doing - hand-holding like I've never seen in a game before.
Oh but it's Studio Ghibli - you cry - and yes it is, but they were on an average day to say the least - "magical" replaced with "infantile" (and his hints repeat and are often not skippable!!)
End of the day, I could not give a damn about ANYONE in the game - indeed I'd like to see several of them consumed by fire - some people will not shut up and appear to be brain dead beyond any measure of sanity.
Even if you get over the childish schmaltz, it's a "by the numbers" JRPG which requires grinding and collecting and talking to everyone/everything and the pacing is DIRELY slow.
I binned it and switched to Kingdom Hearts 1.5 (a PS2 game with an HD whitewash and Disney content - so I didn't expect much!) but it felt far more grown-up, it didn't hand-hold as much, it didn't tell you everything you needed to do (tho that information is there if you pump NPCs for it) - it felt like a game and not a childrens interactive film.

Awww crikey...people still love this.
In the year 2020 there will be one of those retrospective movements and people will finally start to admit..."you know, it wasn't really that good and I was blinded by the ghibli light"
I loves Ghibli too...castle in the sky, favourite film ever.
Don't love all Ghibli though, sequel to spirited away...atrocious.
Anyways....
Point is, if people like this, why aren't JRPGs more popular?
(We all know why, cos it's not the actual gameplay people enjoyed playing this game)
No no, you are spot on with this well expressed view.
There's no battle system development, it's just "attack"/"spam a set magic"
There was some skill needed on the final boss but to be honest the battle system was too sluggish and incometant to require the fast movement and thinking on a regular basis.
Liked the music though, nothing was that epic or heart string tugging like you'd get in a tales.

I really enjoyed the first 5 hours of this game, then for me it got incredibly difficult. I was either grinding on really low level enemies or running in circles waiting for health orbs to appear so I could kill something my own level. I always felt like I was missing something obvious - but I searched in vain and eventually had to stop playing.
