Looks a cracking deal to me. There's a MEDION Akoya P5348 DR PC (B-Grade) also but that has Intel® Core ™ i5-4440 quad-core processor, NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX745 DirectX®11 graphics with 2048MB DDR5 graphics memory, DVI-I, HDMI and 8 GB DDR3 RAM but it's just shy of £300 but even at that, it seems a good price.

What's the quickest way to change the Windows 8 interface to something less tablet-looking?
Other than switching to Windows 7, obviously =p

Just set it up to boot straight into the desktop, it's 90% of the way there then.
Just use the desktop in Windows 8, you don't need to change anything! Windows 8.1 update 1 boots to the desktop anyway.

I'd give standard Windows 8 a chance, but it's pretty easy to install a conventional start menu (http://www.extremetech.com/computing/141702-how-to-bring-the-start-menu-and-button-back-to-windows-:sunglasses:
Windows 10 is out soon, includes a start menu and will be a free upgrade, so that will also help you.

Fantastic price for a not to bad spec, good for anything internet, browsing based PC.
I guess this will have space internally for an upgrade.

Out of curiosity anyone else bought a B grade PC from Medion before? Usually hear mixed reviews with a lot saying they seem brand new!
Processor is £90 alone though so can't really go wrong I don't think!

I ordered a b grade medion pc that i posted here two weeks ago, It was supposed to fitted with a gtx 750 but came with a gt 720 graphics card. Customer services are poor IMO. Obviously if you never have a problem its not an issue. I will never buy a Medion product again.

Hmm bit of a shame, maybe a customer return where they stole a better graphics card and put a worse one in aha?

Anyone know if a Sapphire HD 7770 would fit in this and/or whether it's even worth doing that (I have the HD7770 already), or better to bite the bullet and jump to the MEDION Akoya P5348 DR PC at £300?????

the 300 quid one seems ace, am I missing something? it'd be alright for 1080p gaming right? current games, medium settings?
hugobosslives to alexmurphy01
19 Apr 15#19
its a good deal but not really for gaming
for AAA 2014/5 titles like far cry 4 1080p you'd be looking at low settings and 30fps. I'd have to recommend playing it at 900p or something.
for slightly older games and indie games it would be perfect though.

How would you go about adding a SSD to one of these and installing windows 8.1 to it? Does this come with a physical windows disc?

I've only got about 300 quid disposable , so I'm not going to be able to smash out new games at Max, but wondering if thisisthe best bang for my buck.

This is a great buy for the money. If you want to game go for the other £300 deal, graphics card in that will play any current game on medium easily. Or you could add a 750 to this for gaming without changing the psu.
The comment above about not being able to install any other graphics card doesn't sound legit. They would not be able to stop you from installing a compatible card and I've never heard a manufacturer ever doing that.

Nice one, ordered. My 9 year old Dell 5150 pc packed up a couple of weeks ago it was very sad :disappointed: Have been getting by with a laptop, but I miss the DVD RW drive and charging the battery was a pain all the time. Don't game so should suit me fine as long as it's reasonably quiet.

COLD! I bought exact same design but AMD version with a ATI graphics card. And I bought that for £199 almost 2 years ago :/ and that was brand new.
Besides the AMD version is higher with 4Mb cache. This was from Aldi btw xD

20 Apr 15#56
So? This is the best price at the moment for this system with this processor and most likely walks all over a two year old amd processor. The cache a processor has is no indication of its performance either. And by the sounds of it you got one with an amd apu.
Which model did you get?

Just a bit of advice when Aldi has these medion PCs, they tend to be very good value for money, most tend to have 6mb cache.

select phone support

Clone the hdd to ssd using Easus Todo backup free. Then just remove the lead from the hdd and connect the ssd in its place. You can then use the original hdd as storage.. It will then boot from the ssd

These are still for sale for £199 for a B grade on eBay and have been for the last 6 months, was hoping that they would price drop them since medion should be introducing newer spec PCs B grades soon to clear old stock. (I don't have any info if newer spec will be introduced but the 2049 is old in PC technology)
