I had a much-loved but ailing Logitech G11 gaming keyboard and bought a Sumvision Spectrum illuminated keyboard around £13, discussed on HUKD, a few weeks back. The G11 I have is over five years old and still looks great! The Sumvision has the ink wearing away on the keys already!!

Saw this in Currys Robroyston, Glasgow. Wonder if there's any more out there? No longer on the Currys website.

Receipt on Post #2. UK layout.

PS: The third comment on here from Brian http://www.axonnsays.com/2012/02/logitech-g510-review-how-to-betray-your-fans-and-name/ suggests the G510s is a newer version of the G510.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm going to have a moan.

My old G11 lasted for years and years and the keys were pretty much intact (etched?). Alas, the keys on this G510s are wearing away quite badly now - particularly the WASD, L and N keys. Complained on the Logitech forums but might be time for a new keyboard. Already :disappointed:

Is anyone having trouble installing the Logitech Gaming Software? I'm on Windows 7, 64-bit. It keeps saying this software is not compatible with my OS!

Edit: Found a solution (post #3) which worked. http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Logitech-G-Keyboards/Logitech-Gaming-Software-not-compatble/td-p/1369780

The original thread was here, but it seems this budget illuminated keyboard comes under a few brand names http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/illuminated-gaming-keyboard-argos-2149403

£12.89 here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Backlit-Backlight-Blue-Red-Purple-Illuminated-Keyboard-Sumvision-Spectrum-/121538356236?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1c4c40240c

I have no qualms about buying cheap if it's good value. Sadly, after about three weeks of use, the ink on the keys are beginning to smudge/wear off and it often "resets" itself, turning the illumination off for about ten seconds and not allowing me to type. I know I type fast, but not THAT fast!!

Maybe I'm just unlucky but after such a short period of time it doesn't suggest the Sumvision Spectrum keyboard is built to last! So if you're tempted, be aware what you may be getting.

'The keyboard is fine...unless you want to use a few of the keys to the right of the return key at the same time (i.e. for gaming) in which case it won't work. So I suppose it's not fine. If only someone had mentioned this earlier...'

Fixed that for you. No charge.

Do you have any idea at all of how completely crazy you sound? I can see now what all of that uninvited, panicked knee-jerk psychology babbling about GPs was about. Psychological projection.
You need to be sectioned, again.

It has become obvious now that you're not a professional writer, and it's obvious to anyone reading this (the reason you are trying so damn hard) that you either ignored or deliberately misrepresented my points. So I'm finished. I won't even bother responding on a point-by-point basis. I'll just draw attention to the fact that you asked me why game developers don't use IJKL by default, in response to me telling you that left-handers rebind. That's how divorced from reality you are.
I'm ending this here. Seek the therapy you so compulsively go around the internet recommending to others.

To the left-handers like myself that are considering buying this but that didn't want to read all of that, it works completely fine. There are plenty of actual reviews on the internet from left-handers and they don't have a histrionic "DON'T BUY" anywhere. The keyboard is fine.

It would appear that you really do not get the point. Your opinions are not facts. My statements about the keyboards functional problems (anti-ghosting) and design (lack of any extra keys for those using the right-hand side of the keyboard) are facts. You can't argue against them, no matter how much you rant and cry.

You don't appear to know what a fact is.

Next, you somehow think I'm 60 years old. Do you have problems with basic mathematics too? I typed 1980's not 1960's. I'm in my 30's.

You don't appear to understand the date system or simple mathematics.

Next, 'dysfunctional and retarded' to use the arrowkeys? Yet I've never seen a game that used it as the default instead of arrowkeys. If IJKL is so obviously superior, functional and logical....why isn't it the default? Surely any six-year old (as you claim) can figure it out, so why can't game designers? They need your help!

You don't appear to understand that people have different ergonomic needs, different keyboard positioning, or possibly an inability to use vertically offset keys comfortably.

Next, apparently my use of a single 'cringey Americanisations like "meds" was enough for you to mention it.

You, in you last reply alone, used 'garbage', 'retarded' and various other words which are americanisms that were barely used in the UK 20 years ago, and which I've never used. Also not used were 'nerd', 'sports' and 'geek'. Very fitting, don't you think? That could be your new e-sports name, NerdSportsGeek.

If anyone is americanized, it's you - you just dont know it.

Next: your ridiculous chest-beating about having 'accreditation as a gamer', and that you review keyboards? Was that serious, or is this some sort of meta-game you're playing? Very impressive, but not as impressive as my world record for (name of Sega racing game removed for security/stalking reasons) which has stood for a couple of decades. Or that time I threw sixteen tangerines into a bin by bouncing them off the ceiling (consecutively!). We all have great achievements in life.

There's You, Me, and John Bardeen. Indistinguishable.

Next: Yes, I will give you my personal information so you can spend your time hassling me (or more likely, get your 'friends' to do so). Oh wait, no I won't.

Just think, all of your insulting, offensive, inaccurate anger was based upon me using a different keyboard layout to you. Do you realise how abnormal that is? I'd always thought that the stereotype of 'pro gamers' was a little exaggerated, by the way you've displayed your arrogance, petulance and basic lack of mental nuance makes me think it could be true.

That was probably too much for you to grasp, so what I'm saying is...this is what you have been acting like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcMi_FtqG68

Someone screaming at the world because people do things differently.

A normal reaction to my original post would have been 'If you used the IJKL layout it might be better for you. I use it, and I'm really great at games, so I hope it helps. Toodles!'

Alas, no, that did not happen, and now your ridiculous, uninformed and offensive rant is linked to you forever via the interwebs.

Oh, and I haven't looked at your youtube channel, because I don't need to. Your comments tell me all I need to know.

As I said, you should get help for the APD and NPD, aggression and anger is not good for your long-term health. Plus, someone may decide to respond with physical violence (this has probably already happened, let's be honest), which I fear won't end well for you. Your 'micro' will not help you in the real world.

This has been fun (well, we've been laughing at this end) but I'm afraid I can't devote any more time to this....whatever this was about.

Oh yes, I remember now, it was you being ridiculously opinionated.

P.S. oh, and remember...Reach for the Gold!

How can I not have a superiority complex when I am talking to someone that uses their arrowkeys for movement and struggles with basic reading comprehension? Your trying-too-hard armchair psychology verbiage isn't anything other than bravado. The fact remains that you are a.. what.. 60 year old man that goes on the internet, and attempts to psychologically diagnose what he knows is probably someone between the age of 18 and 25? You are being pathetic and you know it.

It is an empirical, objective, demonstrable fact that your control scheme is dysfunctional and retarded, and you allege yourself to have stupidly endured it for 35+ years. This dysfunction is entirely the cause of your complaint. If you want to talk about ergonomics, ease-of-use and have a go at writing gaming keyboard reviews, try actually using them properly. What you're doing is tantamount to reviewing a hoover and complaining that it can't suck up golfballs and cat vomit. Please don't.

"but most left-handed people use the arrowkeys for movement in games"

I'm left handed and I don't. I have a massive circle of gamers of all varieties, casual to competitive, and don't know a single one of those. Prove it. Meet your burden of proof - show us that you didn't just pull this completely out of your ass.

"attack those who write for a living."

You do? I suppose this writing is available publically seeing as you "make a living" from it. Shouldn't be hard for you to distinguish yourself from the pathetic bluffers that feel the need to bum themselves and their e-**** up, by mentioning a single book, magazine or blog? Didn't think so.

Unlike yourself I actually do write for a living, and can show it. I also use gaming keyboards for a living - as I use them to play games competitively and professionally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFre-aIeG5Y&list=PLlmEEm6A0j5DgUeeNeLPtJw_38uznzfw_

As someone that actually has accreditation as a gamer and demonstrably knows how to use a gaming keyboard properly, I am telling you that you are doing it wrong and that your review/gripe/whine is utterly useless, uninformed garbage that should be ignored. I am left handed and use the G-series of keyboards just fine, because I use them as intended and not eccentrically.

P.S. nice job claiming to be a professional writer that is based in the UK, all the while using cringey Americanisations like "meds" in your writing.

Obvious 19 year old is obvious.

Deary, deary, deary me. Where on earth to start with this cancerous, mewling drivel?

'profoundly autistic and unimaginably awkward' - quoting your most recent psychological evaluation, no doubt.

You need to look up some other terms as well; try Antisocial Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and Superiority Complex. You won't recognise yourself there of course, but then that's the problem, isn't it?

'Don't use the phrase "ridiculous opinion" ever again.' - Ridiculous opinion? Oh sorry, I just did it.

'Try using an actually plausible control scheme, like IJKL. That's not an "opinion". That's a fact.' - er no, it's neither an opinion OR a fact, it's a recommendation/suggestion.

Your various personality issues mean that even though you can't use English correctly yourself, you attack those who write for a living.

Oh, and sorry to burst your non-factual bubble, but most left-handed people use the arrowkeys for movement in games - not everyone under the age of six, as you stated.

Have we covered everything? Good. Now go take those meds, or make an appointment with your GP.
conor147
2 Apr 15 #15
They make sense to anyone that is halfway proficient at the English language. If you can't make sense of them then I can't care.

Your control layout for PC gaming involves arrowskeys - profoundly autistic and unimaginably awkward - an absolute nightmare that most people realise by the age of 6 when they try it for the first time, and you go around complaining about usability. I can't imagine how twisted-looking and arthritic your hand must be by now. Don't use the phrase "ridiculous opinion" ever again.

Try using an actually plausible control scheme, like IJKL. That's not an "opinion". That's a fact.

Can I just point out....they have made only two sets of keys grey on this keyboard. WASD....and the arrowkeys. So clearly the manufacturers of this Gaming Keyboard expected people to use the arrowkeys for movement.

I have used them since the 1980's and have 18 other keys within reach during use. Unfortunately, as stated, those keys are not anti-ghosting on this keyboard. This is a big deal, unlike your ridiculous opinion on what keys people should be using.
HedgyHoggy

HedgyHoggy
1 Apr 15 2 #3
LEFT-HANDED FREAKS (like myself) DO NOT BUY.

If you use the arrowkeys for movement then this keyboard is useless for gaming as the anti-ghosting does not apply to all the keys within finger-reach. Plus all the fancy buttons are on the wrong side of the keyboard.

Basically all we get is some grey keys. WOOOOOoooooo......cheap thrills.

I managed to get one a few weeks ago. Must say it is a fantastic keyboard easily one of the best non-mechanical keyboards you can get. The software is easy to use, the screen is useful I use it to display GPU/CPU usage and temps. The key coating is great, I don't think the keys will ever wear or look old. The anti-ghosting and response time is quick I play Battlefield and League of Legends if you use a standard response time keyboard you will notice the difference. The volume control wheel is very nice as well as the headset connections. I paid the same price as posted (got the last one in PC World) but I feel like I robbed them this keyboard really is worth the £80+ premium. Bargain.

More about the G510s vs the G510: "Due to the success of the very popular G510 keyboard, Logitech has decided to refresh the faceplate of that iconic design with a glossy dark blue coating and they've released it as the the G510s. The new coating supposedly makes the keyboard more durable and keeps fingerprint smudges to a minimum but as we've found, that's more easily said than done. The keyboard's layout and basic functions remain identical to that of its predecessor..."
