Think it is a real good price, especially as no excess
As a homeowner, you are generally responsible for the upkeep and repair of the plumbing and drainage system within your home and for the repair and maintenance of your water supply pipe, from the street boundary up to where it enters your home. In some cases responsibility for this pipe can be shared with neighbouring properties. With such complex systems, if you experienced a problem such as a burst pipe or a blocked drain, it could be expensive to put right. That's why we have teamed up with HomeServe to bring you Plumbing & Drainage Plus.
With Plumbing & Drainage Plus, major emergencies such as burst pipes or blocked drains and minor repairs like dripping taps are all taken care of. In an emergency, there would be no need to search for a plumber, it would take just one call to HomeServe's 24-hour, UK based helpline to arrange assistance from an expert plumber. Plus, there would be no repair bill or excess to pay within the generous claims limit.
This limited offer of £6 in the first year ends on 18 April 2015. Any applications received after this date will be processed at £12 in the first year.

FYI, shared drains are the responsibility of the water companies. So if there is a blockage caused by a neighbour which affects you and the blockage is past your boundary then the water board will unblock it at their cost. Thats what happened in my experience.

All shared drains are now the responsibility of the sewage/water company, from the point of the join downwards. You were never liable for any costs for that problem.

Very good deal..super hot..I am currently using them,, but I took for £ 12 per year.. My kitchen deck mixer was dripping. i I phoned them they came in and fitted the brand new one. Without any hassle and extra money.
After a week the my bathroom cistren was broken and they again came in and replaced it without any problem.
Nice experience so far.
I got my renewal letter through for over £132. I called and got it down to either £54 or £56 - can't remember. Payment by credit card. I called them out twice so reckon still a good deal at under £60 for the year.

Just tried to get this. The deal page is still showing 50p/month in the top right corner through every stage of the order process, although there is a bit of text on the first page stating "This limited offer of £6 in the first year ends on 18 April 2015. Any applications received after this date will be processed at £12 in the first year."
I thought I'd chance it online, but when I hit SUBMIT I got a "page not found" error.
Tried buying it online but the operator wasn't able to offer the 50p deal. It's still a bargain at £12/year.

At just 6 quid for just shy of a full year, I think I can take that risk.......
Avoid, a £30.6 MILLION pound fine last year for mis-selling, the largest ever. Have been fined many times in the past for bad customer practices. They have serious levels of debt and the business model is broken, must be costing them a fortune to go around replacing dripping taps for a few quid a month.
Full disclaimer that I work there. 1) The fine was for activities before 2011. Not proud of the fine but it caused the business to change. 2) The company has almost no debt. 3) It gives new Customers a chance to try the service.

I get a blocked drain because of neighbours stuffing nappies (all the more galling if like us you used re-usable nappies so didn't produce the waste in the first place) and stuff like that, down the drain, probably once or twice every 2 or 3 years (although there was a point where it happened almost every time there was a storm).
I think my house was the lowest point in the system, of course if you can't prove who's put the stuff down the drain, you've got to bite the bullet and pay, my local council charge £140+ to unblock a drain, makes the homeserve price seem pretty reasonable, they guy who sorted the problem last time was brilliant, not at all as the reviews often given, might lead you to believe.
Clearly not for everyone, but if you've ever had problems with your drains, you might consider this good value. And before anyone suggest drainage rods, I tried, it wasn't very pleasant and didn't work.

Not really, although it depends on what type of house you have. If you live in a new-build, past the first year or so you probably don't need this. If you live in an older house where your supply is likely to fail/leak, then it might be worth having.

Is volcano insurance in case your volcano goes extinct and stops erupting? They have Viagra for that now, wouldn't worry about it.

Typical payment to a subbie plumber for fixing a leaking tap is ~£20. I can't see them attracting many "expert" plumbers at those prices.

Homeserve was fined £30.6m by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) – the largest retail fine ever handed out by the regulator. The fine was imposed for ‘systematic, and long-running failures’, mainly mis-selling of insurance policies from 2005 to 2011.
Homeserve’s failings were particularly serious in the FCA’s view because a ‘significant proportion’ of its customers were of retirement age and vulnerable.
Many of Homeserve’s customers will have heard about it through their utility company. In 2012 nine of the UK’s 12 biggest water companies promoted Homeserve’s pipe insurance in direct mail promotions, even though some of the companies had their own free insurance policies
I took this out at 75p a month / £9 a year (offer came with my water bill).
After waiting the obligatory 14 days from the start date, I called them out to look at an unknown problem causing an awful smell in the downstairs toilet.
Got an appointment for two days later, and when they came the guy found a crack in the underground part of the stink pipe, as well as a very badly installed bend piece. Both of these were causing leakage into the soil, hence the smell.
He fixed both in four hours and the smell is no more.
I'm pretty sure that that amount of investigation and repair would have cost several times more than £9 if I'd had to call a plumber or drain 'expert' company, so I'm very pleased I have this.

I have received a good service from them and had no problems at all when I called with a leak under my bath, which was covered by the way. For £6 a month this is fantastic, you couldn't but the pipes (or alternative equipment needed) from b&q or wherever you choose to shop for this price, and you don't have the hassle. In my humble opinion I think it's a good deal and no the next year's payment is not taken unwittingly.

Maybe on the mend?
I think my house was the lowest point in the system, of course if you can't prove who's put the stuff down the drain, you've got to bite the bullet and pay, my local council charge £140+ to unblock a drain, makes the homeserve price seem pretty reasonable, they guy who sorted the problem last time was brilliant, not at all as the reviews often given, might lead you to believe.
Clearly not for everyone, but if you've ever had problems with your drains, you might consider this good value. And before anyone suggest drainage rods, I tried, it wasn't very pleasant and didn't work.

so did a neighbour of my parents who cheekily asked for everyone in the road to contribute. I told them to say no. It turns out that it was caused by a tree in their garden
heat added :stuck_out_tongue:
P.S Good deal just make sure to CANCEL well in advance!
"Thanks, I have checked the system for you and your policy is not on a automatic renewal for next year."
Still £6 a year is an incredible price, I can't understand how it could ever be sustainable. It would be interesting to know what % people remain on the cover for £96 a year.
After a week the my bathroom cistren was broken and they again came in and replaced it without any problem.
Nice experience so far.
Would a leaking hot water cylinder be included?
i have a lead mains pipe, if it was to ever leak or have any issues with.
would this be covered ?
and would they dig up and replace the whole lenght with the new plastic ?
thats your thoughs
Homeserve’s failings were particularly serious in the FCA’s view because a ‘significant proportion’ of its customers were of retirement age and vulnerable.
Many of Homeserve’s customers will have heard about it through their utility company. In 2012 nine of the UK’s 12 biggest water companies promoted Homeserve’s pipe insurance in direct mail promotions, even though some of the companies had their own free insurance policies

I have used Homeserve for several years and not had a problem myself.
Had to pay the £50 excess. I wouldnt have had to pay that if I'd known about this.
What happens after the first year?
The price will increase at renewal. Currently customers in their second year are paying £96.00 for this policy provided they have made no claims. If you pay by Direct Debit or credit/debit card, excluding Maestro payments, your cover will automatically renew unless you tell HomeServe otherwise. If you choose any other method of payment you'll be sent an invitation to renew prior to your renewal date.

I always set one up for "free trials" etc been switching between Google Music, Deezer and Spotify for 2 years using this method to prompt me to cancel....So far 2 years music has cost me £0.99p x 2 = £1.98
Been doing the same between Amazon Prime, Netfix and Now TV for my TV lol
Gonna give them a ring within a week and see if they can unblock the drain as it goes under my brick paved driveway! Rod anyone.......
Need boiler cover- any good one around? dont want 'excess' type.
been with them 3 years. you have to service your boiler your self (£50-60).had to call them 3 times so far no issues at all. two type of cover available £4.99 and £6.99 per month.
Would we be able to claim a replacment new plastic pipe should we have a leak on our boundry ?

Err yes, it confirms that minor issueds for example, a dripping tap, is covered along with huge catastrophes like the said volcano erupting!
So I guess you're wrong.
You can pay by credit card if you want.
Presumably, every Owner would be billed in the block hence making it cheap without this insurance?
