Looks JUST like a passport photo right? IT IS! And it's as cheap as passport photos!

This is a bit of a life hack.

I needed some images for my recently declined US visa... pffffff breeeeeaaathe.

Snappy snaps wanted to give me a sick deal! £20 for 2 images. ...no

So, do what I did.

Go to your nearest photobooth, get yourself inside, get your camera phone out, obviously an iPhone and snap away using your front camera.

THEN.. Go to: http://passportcorner.com

Upload your pic. They crop it for UK and US passports.

Click the download and print myself button.

You get 5 images downloaded on 1 6x4

Get yourself to Boots and print them out for £0.39

BAM.. Life.. Hacked!

Create photo Using GIMP at home (without uploading) : http://www.diaryfolio.com/2012/09/create-your-own-passport-photo-using.html

Trying to do this with my teenage daughter's photo. Where it says to get the chin positioned inside the green bar/line, this is ok, however, my daughter has her hair up slightly - would it be the top of her forehead (hairline) that needs to be inside the green bar/line, or the top of her hair (where it is piled up slightly)? Thank you.

i paid £5 for my adult passport photos then came across something similar to this, i took photos of my 2 kids against a white/creamish background, ie wall in living room, i used my htc m8 took the photos and uploaded them to one of these my passport photo website, it cropped and adjusted the photos to what the passport office require...put them on a usb stick went to boots photo kiosk paid about 70p or something like that , got 6 pics of each kid...sent them to british passport office andnew passports were sent with 7 days...no problems..

I was recently doing the passports for all the kids and the missus (6 passports) for a summer holiday. It all adds up you know. £30 for the photos in the machine. There was a post on here a while back similar to this one and I used my old digital camera, uploaded to the site, saved the images to a memory pen, popped into boots and printed them off. Cost me less than a few quid. Passports all came back OK.

Agree, sounds bit of a pavala. As they say "Time is money",so it come downs to a basic equation at at the end of the day.If the time you lost fannying around, you could've been more productive and earned more than the potential saving, then get it done at a booth.Vice versa,if you would've earned less (eg.unemployed etc.),then get it done for 39p.

Why go through the trouble of going out to a photobooth. Just lie down on a WHITE bedsheet, use your camera phone to take a picture of yourself and upload that!

THEN THE ONLY trip you need to make is when you actually want the image printed at Boots.

I promise you. Just questioned it. My best friend started laughing and they grabbed him. Another PC said "why are we arresting them?". The guy put us in cuffs, twisted my arms almost over my head, cut my wrists to pieces and threw my bones in the back of his van. There were 7 of them, with rifles and it was unnecessary force.

£20 for 2? Dude, it's £3 for 4 at my local Tesco, which is somewhere I go anyway every week anyway.
I just tried this, and Passport corner cost $5.95, plus there is £0.59p ($0.90c ish) which totals $6.85, plus there is the cost of me driving to Boots to get them printed. That's well over the £3 Tesco charge, and it's more than the £4 some guy mentioned in the comments.
It's also not really a life hack, or any kind of hack for that matter. A hack would be using the photo machine for something other than that which was intended. This is just an online service that costs money. That's a service, not a hack, and in a lot of cases it's not cheaper anyway.

You missed my initial instruction mate, theres a link on that page to download the images. Then just stick them on a USB or your phone and take them in. #RTFM

Also, £20 referred to the US Visa images which shops seem to think are specialist and charge you more for. You're not the first to miss the point.

How innocent of you
Don't ever believe the Police to be some altruistic organisation working wholly in our best interests. People are wrongly given criminal convictions all the time. & the likes of Cyril Smith & the Hillsborough disaster demonstrate that the Police are often a law unto themselves.
Yes, there might be more to the story than has been told so far. But by the same token, the wrong comment to the wrong Officer on the wrong day could quite easily lead to a Police caution.

Perfect example; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmlR4HVM17w

Oh come on...you sign in to Quidco, search for the company you are buying from, then click through on the link and buy as normal. It adds about a minute to the buying process --- yet for me at least, has given me almost £800 back in 15 months!

No.

I've tried this before. I made by own 6*4 image, printed it at boots and the system decided to crop and zoom it slightly even though there was no need.
End result - photos and head inside were larger than the specified limits. I didn't want some jobsworth to reject my visa application based on a few mm, so I went to snappysnaps who printed it properly. Cost over £1 and took 10 minutes, but it came out right. Boots wasted my time and money.

Voting cold sorry. Idea is good but not at that merchant.

I had to buy/renew 7 passports recently and by doing the photos myself i saved over £34!! . But boots have since removed the kodak machines that allowed you to do this…so this is a great alternative! thank you OP…heat from me. Oh & recently my girls had a friend over to play…we had to nip into town & they were pestering to have some pics taken in a photo booth so i agreed, but gave them my phone to use to take the photos instead of having them printed…their friend was then able to instantly send her mum the pics on whattsapp (for free) …they got great pics…and as many as they wanted..they had fun and it didn't cost me lol!!!

Voted hot for description which is very creative ....

But I would not call it a deal. The problem if this one is called a deal is that :
1. It is based on wrong assumption e.g passport photos 2 for 20 where in fact 5 photos for £5 in almost any booth easily accessible to everybody.
2. It does not recognize that time is money.
- Go to: http://passportcorner.com
- Upload your pic.
- Click the download and print myself button. You get 5 images downloaded on 1 6x4
- Get yourself to Boots and print them out for £0.39. Is this one cost less than £4.61 ???
3. Get it wrong then repeat the whole process again, so double the time
4. Some people do not have a good resolution camera on their phone to be ever considered an acceptable passport photo....

Is it a deal ???

Yes, you can go to the Ds-160 online form and upload the image. It tells you whether or not it would be accepted. It was. More to the point, I know a lot of people here are saying "just take one on your phone against a white wall" but I did this after I tried that a lot. The embassy software detects bad light, shadowing the eyes and grubby backdrops. So free portrait light in these boxes was ideal. Worked first time.

Just take a snap on a normal camera or phone (against a grey or cream background ideally, in good light but avoiding shadows). Then upload to this site - idphoto4u.com

It helps you crop the image, then you download it as a 6x4 print so can just get it printed. I've used this method for all my family's latest passport photos, no problems. With young kids it saves the hassle too of going to a photo booth

I use this site to get 8 passport photos on one 6x4 and then use Max Spielman to print it out for 39p.

Passport and ID photo creator thingy

Boots always seems hard work locally which is why I go elsewhere.
Seem to think you can do similar at Asda or Tesco if they have a photo lab instore?

I use another template plus Photoshop, can fit 8 pics on a 6"X4" print.

Just to clarify, the visa was not rejected based on the picture which passes fine in their image test online and at the embassy.. They declined me because i was arrested when i was 17 for questioning a policeman about how i can be racially abused and then given a caution for a public disorder. Now off to my AA meeting to pick up some of that green.

It's International Happiness Day? My goodness I had no idea. Is coffee the only thing I have to buy in order to be able to participate? Maybe I have to buy a card or send some flowers too? I'll be sure to look out for the deals on the Happiness Day swag that will crop up tomorrow so I can be better prepared for next year.

Maybe if you'd got a proper photo they wouldn't have rejected the visa, it's a lot of time and effort (and waiting) why would you risk having it rejected for the sake of a few quid
