Get 30% off the airtime of any o2 refresh tariff. There are over 2000 organisations which are included in o2 open, the major ones being Nus and NHS staff, so it is well worth popping in to an o2 store and asking if your employer is part of this scheme. I managed to save over £9 a month on my 20gb tarriff! (£214 over 2 years!) The offer may have been posted before but as I am new on ukhd I thought I would share.
If you have set up a contract direct from an o2 shop in the last month visit http://www.O2open.co.uk to see if you can get an open code.
note the discount can be applied for new or upgrading customers and the contact must be set up in an o2 store. Not available on contracts set up at 3rd party companies (carphone warehouse) or online.
Once you have received a code, this can be shared between another 5 friends and family members!

When you compare deals on 3rd party suppliers (like mobiles.co.uk, etc...) you can get a much better deal than going directly to O2 even with 30% off the tariff.

I did this all online. I put my organisation down as the NHS.
You don't have to go in store anymore to set it up, nor to show any ID to prove who you work for.
(P.s, I don't work for the NHS).

I was made aware of this when I visited the o2 store in Hull enquiring about a new iPhone on contract, they enquired who I worked for, and it turns out my partners employer John Lewis are included. Even though she is not with o2 I could still get the discount! Saved £6 a month on my z3! Can't complain. Just glad they enquired! Always ask if you go in about this discount!

There are others, my work (FTSE100 company) aren't on there.
Preferred the deal when it was a flat amount off (think I got £70 off a sim only a few years back) but can't complain for nothing. Have used mine for my mum and stepdad as it was less hassle than moving them off O2.

Don't think you can apply o2 open codes to tarriffs unless taken out directly with O2.
Same for their refresh plans.

I put NHS down for myself, and I entered "student" for my other half when she got hers.

The guy in my local O2 shop said they will give this 30% discount to anyone in order to get the deal.
They just put down NHS or NUS on the order, with NO validation. mmmm.... I like equality...

You also get 20% off Vodafone too, which is slightly better since O2's 30% is only off the Line Rental, not the monthly price of the phone. Which is confusing.

I don't see why working/studying for a particular organisation should entitle people to pay less than their community peers! Why shouldn't the unemployed or pensioners get a discount??? What a society we live in!

I guess it's one of the perks you would get for working for those companies. At my work, they've negotiated preferential discounted rates with a HUGE range of suppliers, but I've never bought anything through that before as I can always find better deals online myself.
Check on Carphone Warehouse first to see if they are cheaper, they were for me even with student discount!

They did with me, sent a verification e-mail to my work address (also it seems for some companies they already have a list of e-mail addresses of people working at the organisation).
ohwebb
4 Mar 15#40
Yeah, that's not how it's done. It only looks for the domain name in the email address, not the full email. They don't have a list of everyone's emails, that would be insane.

4 Mar 15#41
Ah ok... my mistake, only thought that as it popped up on their screen and the guy said "Oh we've found you!" heh.

You can set up online to get the code but they should In Theory have to ask you for ID and proof of where you work when in the shop. E.g photo pass.
BUT I've never been asked for ID and you can in theory be a friend or family of an employee who has sent you the code and they may be less likely to check for your friends ID.

this seems to be the minimum discount available on o2, and most organisations seem to be on this list.. if you are not getting 30-80% discount on o2, then you're being robbed, and are more than paying for everyone else on these discounts. transparent pricing not!
cabbageprince
4 Mar 15#45
For companies to be on the list I believe they have to use Telefonica for their preferred mobile operator for work phones etc.
I know this was the case with DHL.....if they ever move over to use another network then I guess this deal will stop.

anyone can apply for this discount. you don't even need to be a student. just go to the o2 open website and write student or nhs etc in the organisation section. I've been using it for years. they'll text you the code which you then forward on to 2020.

Does this mean you can't have the discount? The Airtime Discount will be available if you successfully complete the Registration Process within 28 days of purchasing a valid new or upgraded 24 month Refresh contract.
The Discounts will be applied within three (3) working days of completing the Registration Process (the "Process Period").
O2 does not guarantee that the Discounts will be applied within the Process Period and reserves the right to extend the Process Period at any time.
The Offer cannot be taken in conjunction with any other O2 offers (including O2's Friends and Family discount).
The Airtime Discount will only be available in respect of one eligible handset and one eligible tablet or dongle.
You will lose the Airtime Discount:
if you cancel or return your Device or contract under O2's Change of Mind period; or
after the expiry of the 24 months’ Minimum Period of your Pay Monthly Mobile Agreement.

The deal I have seen is online.O2 told me to order it online and then take it to the shop and they will apply the discount. The shop however have a different view. They say they can only apply the discount if bought in store. Has anyone applied for the discount by forwarding the code to 2020 and it worked?
