You do realise that the cold button is there to suggest that the product is available for less elsewhere right? It's not actually there for you to state whether or not you like the product at all

Just so you know for the future and all that.

I hesistated buying this after the launch problems but since its been patched I'm loving it. Similar to PGR in racing style and car choices albeit you race in fantasy locations. Had some decent online play too.
SupraGaz
14 Jan 15 1 #27
Had this since launch and yes it had major problems but it's been my go to game for some time now. There's been afew ai tweaks, the penalty system adjusted, photomode and weather added as well as a hefty chunk of free DLC including cars, tracks, liveries and extra Tour events since launch. Online has been stable for a while now and is pretty addictive. Challenges can be intense too trying to beat another Clubs time by fine margins.

The sound is probably some of the best engine/exhaust notes ive heard in a game, the Zonda is phenomenal.

Looking forward to future updates especially for online private matches. For anyone on the fence and who was unsure after its rocky start, I have no problems recommending Driveclub now.

Great deal and a great game, have to say I feel a bit miffed though having bought this version at launch for £34.99, seems to have gone down fast. Would be much fairer IMHO if they offered some kind of incentive to those who shelled out for it at launch like say 50% off the season pass, would ultimately make them more money too while keeping those that already have it and those yet to buy it happy...
Spark to ST3123

To be fair, Ubisoft did that for people who bought the Unity Season Pass and I thought it set a good precedent that hopefully others will follow when they release broken products.

14 Jan 15 #32
Just a random guess lol, I have no evidence whatsoever for this opinion but I just think Sony would be better giving it as a PS+ freebie which would 1) Repair the damage to their reputation that Driveclub has done 2) Offer new PS4 owners a reason to sign up to PS+ and 3) Give them a chance to make a bit of money on the game since there would be a whole new audience to start buying the DLC

14 Jan 15 1 #33
Is that what that is? I bought TLoU again in December but I bought a US digital code so I thought it was a regional problem because it doesn't give me the New Game + option when I start the game. My online profile for the multiplayer carried over just fine though.

PS+ users were meant to get an extended demo for free (but never did).
This was the upgrade version for that extended demo that cost £35 originally and gave you the full game (instead of being made to pay the standard £49.99 RRP).
It's now £20 and will give you the full game for ever and ever.

14 Jan 15 #43
That's because Xbox One has no regional checks whatsoever and whatever game you buy will be the same as the version from other regions. In fact, changing locale on your machine will force the console to start downloading language packs for your games from that region.

This game is decent but, only just. It's ironic that the thing was meant to be free when the ps4 was coming out, but now that it is popular, you have to buy plus and then pay 20 quid on top.

This has worked out well for me.. I bought it a £35 but suffered all of the original faults, so managed to get a refund.. But the game stayed in my list and I have been able to play it for months, even though its not in my "library".

Got to say that its one of (if not) the best driving game I have EVER played (And I have played most)... THe new weather effects are gob-smacking.

I always knew I would have to buy it again, as I need to upgrade my HD and because its not in my library, I wouldn't be able to download it.. And now at £20 I jumped at it...

For £35 it was a fine game.. But for £20 its an absolute steal.. If you are remotely interested in driving games you should buy this.. You will NOT be disappointed.

It will be because the product codes are different. Looking at this page for Destiny will probably explain it I think.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps4/704532-destiny/data

In this case for example, saves from the disc version should carry straight across to the digital one.

Theoretically for this game it should actually be fine:

Disc versions are floating about at £22 which I'd rather pay for over a digital copy. I only recently picked the game up, bypassing the botched launch - gotta say it's one of my favourite discount-bought PS4 games. Addictive racing which isn't overtly simulation, but definitely not in the realm of arcade physics. I like it a lot, and visually it's one of the best racing games I've played.

Any account that's on yours PS4 essentially shares the PS+ from the master account for multiplayer. Not sure if there is a maximum number of accounts but I've got three on mine that use it.

Though I wouldn't have thought local multiplayer would need PS+.

That said, I don't think you can access this version when your plus sub runs out. Even though it is the full game.

Eventually I went through the game data manager, and found the game data of driveclub from the cd version I played previously. deleted that, and it let me download the digital version.

So the error message was misleading, there was nothing in download list, but it was conflicting with game data from the disc version.

Its not a game that you buy a console for, I have not played Forza so I can't give you an opinion on that.
crumpo to threesixty360
14 Jan 15 #137
I'd watch as many videos as you can, to get a feel for how the game is. I generally would ignore reviews on this one as they are not a very good guide.

It's a different game to Forza, which plays much more like Test Drive Unlimited (open-world games). If you like a big open map with lots of things to do, you won't like this. If you like track Forza and Gran Turismo you might like this but there's no tuning and it's nowhere near as sim-y in the handling.

Best way I can describe it is more like Project Gotham Racing; good feeling of grip, weight transfer, fun tracks and great cars. Not too hard but challenging enough, especially near the end.

But if you're on the fence I'd say don't buy a console for it, unless you were going to buy it anyway.

I borrowed this at release and wasn't convinced but having bought now after been patched I have to say I think its brill. Certainly the best racing game on PS4. Reminds me of Project Gothem. Weather effects are great. Worth £20 for sure. I have owned Forza and GT games on previous consoles but got bored of the same race tracks being in each sequel this has only imaginary circuits and tracks and that's what really sells it for me.

nige182 to matthewmarsh
15 Jan 15 #153
The problem is that when you have finished it, it will likely be worth nothing anyway, unless you decide you don't like it almost immediately. The only reason I went for the disc is that I managed to get it for the equivalent of about £10 new (bought the FIFA/Driveclub bundle on Rakuten and sold FIFA on eBay). This is one where I actually would have liked to get it digitally instead. For me, I want disc releases of Limited Editions and such because they look really nice (usually), but standard edition games I am happy with digital if the price is right.

I forgot to mention the challenges...personally, I prefer the time trials to the races (getting times whilst on some of the narrow tracks with aggressive AI is tough) and have spent up to an hour racing laps of circuits before (as you go round you race your ghost, and the ghosts of other players with a slightly better time than you). It's very addictive.

If you have friends on PSN who also have DC you can send them challenges to beat your time, with a particular car/track/time/weather combination. These are great fun and act like user-created content.

I'll add some people from this thread to my friends list, so I have more DC people to send challenges to-feel free to add me if you have the game- Crumptastic_86

I have to agree. Disk swapping is a little bit of a pain and this game is a keeper in my opinion and well worth the £20 asking price for the sheer number of hours of entertainment. The developers making the money back (rather than CEX) should ensure more updates and possibly a sequel.

If more AAA games were selling for £20 I'd be happy to go all digital for them. Glad I upgraded to a 1TB HDD when I did.

PS4 games don't actually read from the disc. They install to the HDD when you first get the game and then the disc is just used for security from then on. Most of the time the disc will just sit idle in the blu ray drive so you wouldn't see any difference at all tbh.

The lowest class of cars are really dull to drive in comparison to the other classes and the first track they have you race on is literally my least favourite in the game. They start you off by showing you the very worst Driveclub has to offer, so if you like it already, you're in for a treat for the rest of the game.

Sequel, you serious? This game is damaged goods with an even worse reputation. Even though multiplayer is fixed, op has still copied the text regarding server issuss, no one has noticed and people still ask if online is working.
The team is clearly struggling to keep the game running. 1 year late, took almost 2months to get the servers working, ps+ postponed, having to add new features bit by bit to limit bugs perhaps? While pressured in getting the dlc cars released every month.

If Project Cars is any good that is 1 nail in its coffin and when GT7 lands its game over for driveclub permanently. Who in their right mind would still play this or buy the sequel?
Driveclub full game im sure will be released for free too, perhaps this xmas or next year before GT7 is released. Atleast they can make money off the dlc and season pass.

Cool story bro. It's interesting because it sounds like you know what you're talking about, but when you read it you're actually regurgitating all the knee-jerk reactions that came at launch. You also don't know anything about how game development works (people writing server netcode are not the same people doing car modelling, track creation etc). Fun read, nonetheless.

And if you think the server issues were bad you obviously didn't play Battlefield 4. This is small fry in comparison.

It's an upgrade to THE FULL GAME to the not yet released ps+ version.
If say the ps+ was released and you liked what you saw and wanted the full game, you buy the upgrade to THE FULL GAME.

The message is from launch which should have been removed, it is now fixed and working as intended and being constantly improved such as the weather update last month. Anyway the game probably isn't for you guys anyway, you'd crash on the bends in a rage of fit. Try the crew or NFS:Rivals, they must be right up your street.

If the game was working 100% and there was no server issues then why have they not released the free version to the ps+ members as they said they would?
I am aware that it is an upgrade to the full game but why would anyone in their right mind support a company who thinks this is an ok way to release a game? the game should have been pulled from psn and stores as soon as they realized the issues they should have fixed the game and offered free season passes to anyone who managed to buy it before the issues were sorted out.
NFS rivals was right up my street mostly because i was able to play it online from day one without ongoing issues

Stress on servers more likely, think about it how many people will download and try to jump online, even if they do it just once. To be honest I don't know why people are still hung up on the ps+ version. If you want it, buy it and its still worth it for £20 since its the only decent game till Project Cars lands.
GTA Online had a ton of issues and even now with its PS4 port, still has issues online. A lot of games have some issues, some bigger than others such as AC Unity.
If you feel like that then the least you should do is not to pre-order. Wait for game to be fixed, get it cheaper and atleast you know it works as intended.

I don't have a single problem in connecting to players in any other PS4 online game, all the required ports are open (I've even tried PS4 on DMZ and still no change), and for me the PS4 connects at 25-30mb down, 10-12mb up to the internet, so why we're failing to connect to players is a mystery.

nige182 to mrshadwell
17 Jan 15 #234
The physical version still has to install to the hard drive, and the regular updates are also installed to the hard drive in either case. As for selling the game on, as mentioned before the devaluation means unless you sell it on rather quickly, you will not get much back for it and likely will not save a lot after resale compared to the digital one that you can keep forever. This is why I tend to try to get Limited Editions at retail and other games digitally as long as the digital price is reasonable.

Great game - feels a lot like Grid - more arcadey than something like forza, so if you're a tuning freak then possibly not for you, if you're a Grid or PS1 Colin McRae rally fan - this is awesome. Handling is suitably forgiving - ie one wheel on the grass doesn't mean pausing and hitting restart!, but never false.

This isn't a Sim and doesn't pretend to be, but it is great fun. The way online works is great to - always a raft of events starting in a few seconds, so no joining and waiting for everybody else to finish those last 15 laps of the nurburgring before you can play.

thanks OP - bargain at £20.

Try pressing the handbrake button (default circle) for about one second to start a drift, I was struggling when I got to the first drift challenge, I ended up at the top of my friends leader-board

If you just tap the button it seems to spin-out or hardly drift at all.

The instant restarts and short races are what makes the game great.

I don't find anything wrong with it tbf....other than my complete uselessness at the drift events! :stuck_out_tongue:

How good should it be? What would you change to improve it?

Despite a really shaky start, I have to hand it to Sony because they are supporting this game very well. All FH2 offers is a free car every month.

enjoying the game but as someone said it gets tough pretty quickly and I can't drift either

noticed one issue-ette - if you've changed your PSN avatar to a custom one the game does not pick that up, it will only show the standard Sony avatars. Still hardly a showstopper

The online is a smash fest though, it may as well be Destruction Derby at times although I did manage to beat a bunch of French level 40 players in Ferraris when I was driving a Renault on Saturday. I don't speak French but I gathered that they weren't very pleased.

This is bullsh*t!!

Thanks HotUKdeals, I won't be posting again!!!!!

Boohoo, I posted a different product for the same price and it didn't get me a big e-****.

Okay, maybe that is a bit harsh, but the fact is some people actually PREFER digital and hence those people will be voting this hot but might not care for your deal. Others prefer retail but are collectors so only buy brand new, again they will not care for your deal either nor this one. Then you have the group of people who don't really care how they get it. This final group are the ones your deal would appeal to. As such there may just be more people who prefer digital games to those who don't care how they get a game.
hogofddyn_
20 Jan 15 #263
This deal is far better, and rarer. I'd rather have a cheap digital download than a potentially scratched and inconvenient preowned disc any day.
mreriksen
20 Jan 15 #264
"Yes brother, the fire rises."

I thought I add a statement that doesn't make any sense as well lol.

Potentially scratched? Anything you buy can be potentially faulty, that is why there's a warranty on that, and last time I checked CEX offer warranty on the items they sell. how is a disk inconvenient if you can sell it if you don't like the game, or completed everything there;s to complete. Digital copy is inconvenient to me - you bought it, you stuck with it!

I'm gonna go and potentially drink some inconvenient coffee right now. Lawyered!!!!

20 Jan 15 #267
I picked this up last week on disc second-hand mint from a forum for £17. Played a reasonable amount in the interim; it's very good and I have experienced no real issues, apart from one crash to XMB when I finished a race. This was when I had joined someone's session in my club, however.

Looks fantastic and quite competitive - can be unforgiving, but I do get the sense that at the lower levels, the computer AI lets you catch up. Ram fest, this is not: you lose power as a penalty if you directly ram other vehicles (rightly so), but it's too forgiving when using other vehicles as a cornering aid.

Not sure if the season pass is considered worth it yet, would be good to know what others think.

I'm considering the season pass as well, although I've not bought one since Uncharted 3. So I must like DC

I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up in a sale at some point. The UK 10% off PSN codes should be available this weekend anyway so you could always get it for £18 then if you want to.

grr will finally spend my £21 of credit when the 10% voucher makes it £18!
Spark
20 Jan 15 #276
This weekend then. I am currently in an argument with Sony's community management though as their official release states that the 10% codes will work on digital pre-orders and I know for a fact that they won't unless something changes before this weekend.

20 Jan 15 #279
Does everybody get the code or just ps plus subscribers? The wording makes it look like everyone...

"We hope your New Year is getting off to a great start! As promised, as a thank you to all of our PSN members, we are happy to announce the details of the 10 percent PlayStation Store discount."
TommyNooka
20 Jan 15 #280
You can only buy the PS+ 'upgrade' with a PS+ subscription, it's £35 for those without PS+.
Spark
20 Jan 15 #281
Because the discount is a bonus for being a PS+ subscriber. If you don't want to pay for PS+ then you will occasionally pay higher prices for digital products, it has been that way since the PS3.
Spark
20 Jan 15 #282
Everybody does. The account for which I have already received a code isn't a Plus account.

I'm a little confused, do I need to own the game first to buy and play this as it's an "upgrade"? I rented Driveclub a while ago but sent it back now don't own it someone said on PSN forums you need to own the disk then install the upgrade or whatever.

Has the free version been release yet?
jaystan
25 Jan 15 1 #309
Free version is delayed until further notice. No date given. This is the full game you do not need anything else.
FlexR
25 Jan 15 #310
Thanks for replying, I see I guess it works out a better deal to get this as the free version isn't everything right? It's not all cars/roads or something.

I noticed "But why did we choose to offer this particular selection of the game to PlayStation Plus subscribers for free?" and on the blog @ http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/05/07/whats-included-driveclub-playstation-plus-edition but I wish they can give a date haha guess I will buy this deal.

and "The simple answer is that with an active PlayStation Plus subscription, you can download DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition which comes with one location (India), 11 tracks, 10 cars and access to all game modes." makes it sound like you can download now free :disappointed:

PS: Is 14.7GB the full size and all DLC/Upgrades or just the game?

25 Jan 15 #311
The size is just the game. The free edition would be about a fifth of the full game.
