I got one off e bay recently through a charity shop. It was brand new and had all paperwork on it etc. It was incredible. 20 quid.
Whoever owned it must have snuffed it before having a chance at riding it. I use it for work and back, 12/13 miles a day, all weathers. Keep the carbon and speed machines for my own time. Not failed me yet, it's heavy and yes it's budget but it's comfy and gets me to work everyday through bridleways and paved roads. People want a budget bike but then pay 250/400 quid because of what everyone else says then it kind of defeats the object of budget. No bike is designed to not work except toys r us bikes.

I'd go with the Apollo. The Viking is a has drop handle bars, which are more awkward for viewing traffic behind you. The RockRider is a mountain bike, so you won't be as fast or efficient as you would be on a hybrid. The Real Clifton only has 6 gears, which would be fine if your commute is flat, but if there are a few hills on the way you'll be grinding up them which isn't good for your knees.

which is the best bike for daily commuting (6/7 mile round trip):
or is there any other good alternatives at the £100 range?

I got an Apollo CX10s aluminium frame hybrid in 2007 for riding into work. I still use it today for the same thing, although practically every part but the frame has been replaced. Because it's not a fashionable brand, it's never likely to be stolen
Link for £80 one from Argos on here this week. So this one must be overpriced :stuck_out_tongue:

I wouldnt be too concerned about the weight of the bike. most people using these bikes will be 70 kilos plus, add the bike and your at 85 kilos. Say you get a super light (and more fragile) bike at 10 kilos, you're still pushing 80 kilos plus along. Steel bikes arent as fashionable or light as alu bikes but they are strong and wont crack snap like the cheapy alu bikes. For what it is this woukd make a great commuter bikr.Heat from me

Stupid price to start with so no real deal for what you get here.

I have this bike, bought from Halfords as a step up from my mountain bike for more road rides and it is actually a good bike. It is a little heavy but for the price you can't grumble.

i have bought halfords deals but i dont go by the reduction. i go buy the final price and value for money. personally i would not go for apollo as they do not seem to be good value for money. i am aware that halfords own other brands but apollo just seem not worth touching if you can get something else for a little more. not voted hot but not voting cold either.

Please stay away from Halfords at all costs... I did a work placement there in late 2012 and was responsible for putting the prices on all bikes up by almost double, so they could 'reduce' them again in time for Christmas. Con artists at best

£259.99 my ****! It's got a steel frame and weighs 15kg... Spend a little bit more than £129.99 and get an aluminium frame.

At the £130 price point consider a B'Twin rockrider 300 (£119.99)

Or for a little bit more the underpriced 340 (which my daughter rides).
