You can't make sweeping statements like that without backing them up with facts. Personally I think Halfords has its place in a world where time is money and it might be difficult to get to a bargain basement parts shop, especially since few operate the opening hours Halfords manages.

It's a F#####G Car battery, it has 3 years warranty and it's a good price, please don't compare it to car tyres as a Battery is not going to kill you if youtake a corner too fast....

It's less half the price of the a Yuasa or a Good Bosch and comes with 3 years Warranty so in theory you can buy a new one in 3 years and still be up on the deal in 6 years time, if the battery lets you down just call Euro Car Parts and they will swap it out, simple :smiley:

A bigger battery will not help with uprated car stereo's or anything else electrical, the battery in your car is there to serve one purpose: provide enough cranking amperage to start the engine. After your engine is running, and the alternator is spinning, the battery actually acts as a load.. If the battery mentioned has enough Amps to start your car then buy it :smiley:

I bought a Bosch battery from them 2 weeks ago, instore price was almost £84 told him to wait 15 mins and ordered online on my phone for £69 worth checking before going instore.

Keep the receipt and make good use of their warranty......you will most likely need it.

Who the hell are Lion Battery's? I always say if people skimp on things like battery's and tyres which are important parts on any car, what other things have they skimped on. Eg. Repairs and general maintenance.

Last week bought a Ford puma 1.7, bosch s4 04 battery for just under £52.

In compairing prices you should look at SAE/CCA rating on the battery - NOT all are equal.

Love the report by Which, funnily enough the top companies are (in no specific order) Apple, John Lewis, Lush and Lakeland, all companies selling stuff at a premium price knowing their customers are happy to pay for it, though I have to say my experience of John Lewis treating me as though I wasn't good enough to be in their store, I'd rather go to Halfords any day, but the point is if you're raking in the profits rather than competing at the low end of the market, of course you're going to be able to offer a better customer service.

Reading the other links they're mostly poor reviews from 2012 and earlier, which Halfords responded to in 2012, and to be fair to them, my experience at shopping at 3 of my local stores over the last year, they seem to have improved a lot from a couple of years ago.

Doesn't change my opinion of them, if you need a car battery at 7.30pm, then Halfords can be a life saver, you might pay more for the privilege but sometimes you have to.

Depends what Ford Focus it is - i cant see a 1.4 battery being the same as a 2.5T or 2.0TDCi Battery

I would recommend a larger one for the ST/ larger diesels even if a 60AH 520CCA is as good as the one that comes off the car. You wouldn't regret it turning the key and it still kicks like a mule on the coldest of days. I personally had a 72AH 680CCA Bosch S4 with a 4 year guarantee fitted to my ST way back when.

Especially comforting when you might use electronics a bit when stationary, uprated sound system comes to mind.

Anyway you have 3 years warranty guys. What are you moaning about. This not going to explode in your cars. It's truly BARGAIN!!!

Thats why i mentioned it - My 2.0TDCI Mondeo has an 85AH battery in it (Bosch S5) and i imagine the 2.5T and 2.0TDCI Focus will be the same (Ford standard for 2.0TDCI Mondeo is 80AH)

Most things these days are all made in the same factory with a different label stuck on. They all have to meet various standards so as long as it works I don't see a problem.

Looked at them recently on my last battery buying trip.
plain black with no markings other than a large sticker.
no place of origin, no serial numbers & no date.

only takes 1 time going flat and missing work to have paid for a top of range battery.
warranty could be a billion years and still wouldn't want it on my car.

hot though if you are selling the car.

Tip: If you buy a battery from Euro Car Parts they will give you three quid for your old one. Making that headline price £33

Weird, mines an original battery in a MK2 2006 and i'm certain it's 72ah.

Ford did rehash the diesel engines around 2004 for the Mk2 focus (and carried across to the Mk4 Mondeo in 2007) and i know my mondeo had an 80AH battery in originally from new and i replaced it with an 85AH Bosch S5 this year when it began to struggle to start. Parts bin special perhaps? Else its had a donor battery at some point...

Also check out the RAC online store. Very often I have found they have the best deals on certain batteries.

halfords do price match , but obviously not on halfords branded batteries (has to be EXACTLY the same item).
also halfords trade card is easy to get , just said independent repairer and they didn't even ask for ID.
usually a minimum of a few % off.

Bought Lion battery from EuroCarParts in 2011, failed year later and replaced under warranty. When it failed for the second time asked for full refund.
3 breakdown call outs, total time lost - 6 hours aprox. You get what you pay for.

Please don't buy LION batteries, i had a very bad experience. My problems started when my garage charged me for a BOSCH battery and put this one in my car. i came to know this after few flat bat. if i don't use my car for 2 weeks , the battery is dead. my old BOSCH was good even after a month break, first turn brrrrrrrm.

brought this brand from eurocarparts.. if you dont start your car every day forget this brand , goes flat after a week fully charged.
i have a suburu samba and this gets used at weekends only… no power drains on sambar when ign is off…only a 660cc engine
and cant crank it… good door stop.

Friend told me all batteries come from the same couple of factories anyway, all that changes is the label.

Sorry but as a mechanic people are thinking they know far to much. In reality I have had a lion 063 battery in my focus for 4 years and still as powerful as when I first installed it. It has produced better amp cranking than my previous bosch one.
