It's a good price for what it is. It's a decent enough beginners machine and very easy to use. On the down side, Singer really aren't the name synonymous with top quality sewing any more.

I Have just called Singer UK and the Tradition 2282 is not made in the UK its from Germay. The warranty is not valid in the UK

That simply cannot be true. Lidl gives 3 years warranty anyway.

Anyone know what wattage the machine is

Surely the guarantee is valid if it is being advertised in English stores. I've had a Singer machine for over 40 years and it has just given up the ghost so I'm looking for a replacement .

Can I just suggest that for those of you who are looking to purchase a new machine have a look at the amazing deals available on sewing machines direct?
They offer absolutely outstanding deals and next day delivery is included in the price. In addition, their guarantee is around 5 years for most machines and they also throw in some amazing free gifts, such as thread, scissors, tape measures.
Quite honestly, Singer don't make them the way they did, 40 years ago. But that's just my personal opinion.

I can vouch for Sewing Machines Direct, plus if you get one of the machines with the free sewing pack it's even better value. You get 50 big reels of thread (not bad quality), scissors, thread unpicker (which will be your new best friend) and other goodies. They will also price match other retailers.
However, avoid Sewing Machines Discount, they're part of Coopers Sewing Machines who have been on watchdog etc and if you read the reviews online you'll wonder how they're still in business. I called them and the man was rude and abrupt, I'd avoid them at all costs.

I have one of these machines and its a brilliant little buy for under £100. Its very user friendly in the sense you can plug in, thread and go, no need to spend 4 hours reading the instruction manual and even someone whos never touched a sewing machine would be off and running in under 15mins. Its a solid machine for the money, metal framed so has a bit of weight and sturdiness to it. It threads very easily with a front loading bobbin, and so far has never skipped a stitch on me. I use mine practically daily as I make little pet accessories for a grooming salon and this has coped with everything I've thrown at it. Its pretty much identical to the Singer Tradition 2273 which is the UK version that sells on Amazon for double the price of this(theres actually a few more stitch choices on this one) so if you want a more indepth look at the spec have a look at that one.
Theres nothing fancy stitch wise on it but all the basics are there and there are a few nice decorative stitches to embelish your projects. Embroidery lovers and advanced hobbyists probably wouldn't bat an eye at this basic machine but for day to day general purpose use or an entry level machine for beginners its really hard to fault. I agree that Singer aren't the name they once were in terms of build quality but saying that this in a really nice sturdy machine, no digital techy stuff to go wrong just a good solid does what it says on the tin machine.
P.S Pamela Ann, just had a look on the back and it says 85w

Hi, I am interested in your comments. I have been trying to do free machine embroidery(simple stuff, I do not intend to do anything too fancy!) - do you think this machine would be suitable? My very very old Singer cannot drop the dog feeds (Yes, as old as that!) Thanks

I have just puchased this machine singer 2282 from Lidl and in the booket with it it says 3 years guarantee and if anything goes wrong there is an address in Cardiff to deal with the guarantee.

Hi. I was looking at this machine yesterday and trying to decide wether to get it or not. I am a complete sewing novice. How does it do on denim? It will be this one or the ikea one for me.

Sounds very good, Singer machines are usually around £120 or over. None in my local Newbury Lidl though :disappointed:

Does it do hemming stitch to shorten trousers and can it cope with the thickness of denim for hems?

Dont buy even a packet of needles from anywhere having anything to do with Coopers. Disgusting company with morals. Slated on tv and he is very obnoxious male. Cost me lot of money

Just bought one. The handbook states that there is a 36 month warranty. It's manufactured in the Far East (as usual these days) but looks quite robust, with some really good features. Seen the exact same model on the Singer website at £159.00 so at 80 quid this seems a really good buy
