I honestly don't understand why people get so worked up about the Next sale.

For starters, their clothes are average. Quality seems ok, style seems ok-ish (some of the stuff I see in there is dreadful, some of it is average. But no more than that) and I would say it's nearer the bottom end of being value for money (ie. not great).

But I just can't understand anyone who would queue up at 5am just to be one of the first in. Come on people, it's Next, not blooming Alexander McQueen or Burberry.

It's really quite sad to see people going nuts over a half price shirt from Next. People who get excited about this need to re-evaluate their lives.

Voted cold.

If anyone can put up with the barging and the elbowing and most of all rudeness that these sales bring out in people, in what a sad state the population has become, you're more than welcome to the savings.

Agreed 100% .. some people take the entire family just to stand and hold stuff that they have grabbed whilst they try and work out if they want it.

Don't think next sale's are that good , I bought a shirt and the next week it was in the sale more expensive that what I bought it for, I take it that is why they take off the original price tag.

I voted hot. I like next. I like the kids clothes and home, some stuff I wouldn't personally wear but you get that with many shops things you think no one would buy. A lot of stuff is way overpriced I agree but this post is about the sale which everything is normally cut by 50% that is a good saving whether you like next or not. I've never been to next sale in store and it does sound of putting however in Northampton we have just had a new 2 storey next built half home and half clothing so I am tempted to go I must be mad lol

f**k going to the sale instore. What's more relevant is that they usually coincide the £10 off £15 online spend codes with a sale, so hopefully these will be released soon.

. my sister hardly ever buys anything and regularly gets slots. I return most stuff now as sizing/quality dreadful and still got slots, albeit mostly 2nd round. you seem to get a slot for some reason if you order week or 2 before slots issued ( I find anyway)

next stuff is terrible now, light, see through wrinkly fabrics and sizes are huuuuuge. Even a 6 is massive on me now. one of the well built ( muscular as opposed to fat) held one top up and it was perfect for him. online sale is rubbish unless you get the first VIP slot. quality has really gone down hill in last few years.

im one of the wierdos that gets up early and queues and spend alot on clothes for me my bf and my little girl. I kit us all out for the year or until the next sale neways. Usually get a VIP but still go instore. Bad stores and good store experiences. Trafford centre is usually the best for me security guards, constantly restocking & plenty of staff so smaller till queues. I love next and save myself a fortune so defo heat!!
yonyon
8 Jul 14 #50
I also knew about it from mse but voted hot - I'm one of those mad people who queue for all 4 annual sales but like previous posts have said - for the prices I am able to kit my little girl out for a good while for half of the piece I would have paid and I think the kids stuff is great. The home stuff is also great in the sale - I may get myself one or two bits but I mainly go for kids and end up spending around £100 or so, which would have cost me £200.

It's one of the only retailers nowadays that don't have a sale every week (M&S springs to mind!) so you know they only have 2 big end of season and 2 smaller mid season sales a year.

I'm actually surprised at the number of people with negative comments, if it wasn't so popular they'd have come up with a different sales tactic by now.

8 Jul 14 #51
I like next clothes, even better when there's a sale, some things I think are over priced but I'd pay that little extra if my kids are going someone special, most supermarkets sell just as good clothes these days, I always forget sainsburys when shopping for kids clothes and there stuff is lovely.

8 Jul 14 #59
Just to let people know.. Staff will be giving people a ticket when queuing up outside so they can get in the shop for the sale. This is to stop people queue jumping/saving places for friends and family when others have had to queue up. Maybe will stop all the mayhem outside??
JohnnyUtah to katie89
8 Jul 14 #63
Doesn't stop the utter greed inside. I have witnessed on more than one occasion a whole rack of clothes being swept into a person's arms in one swoop to prevent anyone else getting a look in and taking away to a corner to have the contents picked over like a carcass, the items judged not suitable tossed into a heap for the staff to gather up later. Utter greed seen too many times.

8 Jul 14 #60
I used to get the vip email. Even if I only bought one item in the sale it seemed to ensure I got another the next time until one day I couldn't find a simple thing I wanted so I didn't bother. Never got another invite after that :disappointed:

whether they'll be doing this ticketing for all stores I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. I'm normally in the first 15 or so queuing up, sometimes a little further back but it really annoys me how people just turn up who have either just had a bit more of a lie in or been sat in their car/macdonalds then roll up 5 minutes before opening and join someone in the queue.

As for the greed and grabbing rails worth of clothes - I think it depends on which store you go to - I live around 10 min from a large shopping centre with a huge next and around 2 minutes from a small store at an out of town retail park. I always go to the small one as I know where everything is & there's none of the grabbing loads. I've been told from friends that there's a certain type of person that go to the large shopping centre store and grab rails worth of clothes...I couldn't be doing with this and it probably would put me off. Thing is Next aren't going to do anything about this type of customer as at the end of the day it's custom for them.
CallumWilliams
9 Jul 14 #66
One thing Next is good for (applicable to menswear) is reducing their suits. A majority of the suits currently in stock in the shop at full price will go half price on the 19th. A majority of the t shirts / jeans etc seem to be recycled old stock.

When using the sale online, would these items stack with the £20 off invite a friend to sign up for a Next Account?

The friend has to spend £50 or more and the discount is automatically applied.

You also receive £20 for inviting a friend once their order has been fully processed.

18 Jul 14 #105
Would you think i'm mad if I say around opening time haha
Aiden1512
18 Jul 14 #106
LOL, yes! Well it actually depends on the store your going to . I've only ever been (dragged by a friend shall i say) to one sale and as it wasnt a large store and A LOT of people were there we were being let into the shop in groups, When a few people left another lot of people were let in, so if you want the decent stuff you should aim to get there around 2 hrs before opening. That way you'll be one of the first ones to go in and you'll have to wait just as long anyway if you queued later.
CROOH92
18 Jul 14 #107
Oh right the store I want to go to is a big one (ambitious I know lol) but I know it has the stuff I want in so i'm hoping that is I get there a little earlier I can grab what I want and go. However i've heard some bad stories about people grabbing clothes and dashing to the nearest corner or people arguing over the last size in something they want so if I dart straight for home instead of clothing (there now separate in my local home is upstairs clothing is downstairs) I should be fine lol (fingers crossed)
Aiden1512

I have been to lots of Next sales and would definitely be there by 4 a.m. if not earlier if you can manage it. Especially the summer sale when it's warm. I like to be one of the first in line, get what I want and first to exit - back to bed! the summer sales are really popular at my R*G store and the queue can snake all round the building - the first 300 people get in then it's one in one out, by which time it's a scrum and the item you set your heart on is probably gone. If you are going to lose sleep might as well do it properly!

18 Jul 14 #120
Just got the first part of my VIP order BTW so won't bother going this year! first time I have had first slot in ages and managed to buy most of the items I wanted... If I was going would probably get up at 3 a.m. - store is a 20 minute drive...

I survived  didn't get there until half 6 as the weather was awful lady in the shop said only 70 people were waiting when they opened the door as the rain was so bad. Went to the smallest store first then the bigger 1 after. Got lots of nice things flowers in vases were heavily reduced and looked really nice. You were right at the bigger next people were in corners with about 70+ items of clothing all in all we had an good experience there was a bit of pushing and shoving amongst other shoppers to get to new stuff that was being added to shelves, felt sorry for a couple of older ladies as they had put there bags of shopping down (they hadn't yet bought) and somebody had pinched half there stuff while their backs were turned they were obviously a little upset, but as I said I got a lot of items and more I wanted so a good experience put it that way lol

Strolled in at 09:15am this morning
Went straight to the rails with the sale shirts on picked up the exact 2 I had seen in the week at over £30 each, strolled to the tills paid half price for both shirts in Large..strolled out..
Why would you want to be queing up outside at 5am in the morning

Sales girl said it hadn't been that busy and they opened at 5am this morning too, its just all the idiots creating mayhem and panic on the internet that turn it into a free for all, sites like this where umpteen brainless gorms want to que for 4 hours to run round like headless chickens picking up all sorts of stuff then leaving most of it to go back on the rails..

Wandered to the nearest Home store just as it opened, queue was pretty small. Everyone was just running to the kitchen section to grab the unsold sale mugs for half price. Will never understand that one as mugs are always cheap everywhere, but anyways. Overheard one woman who was stocking up on candles saying to someone that they were 'always good for gifts'. Bet her friends can't wait. No decent furniture on sale this time, but picked up one really good floor rug at half price, just what I needed.
Then drove half a mile to the clothes store after it had calmed down a bit, this is clearly where everyone had been queueing, looked like bedlam had struck. Picked up a very nice blue italian wool suit half price, queued and left.
Then went home to sleep :sunglasses:
