BBQ is upon us and Gas can be expensive especially if you do not have a bottle. I have researched for myself and these came out as way cheaper than any other company inc gas bottle.

11kg Propane inc free delivery and gas bottle just £21.99

7kg Butane inc free delivery and gas bottle just £16.99

13kg Butane inc free delivery and gas bottle just £22.98

Other sizes available, please note that they do charge for some gas bottles ie 'Patio' gas.

Cold...So you go to the tip at your expense and time and try to find one, if lucky you then need to go and have it filled somewhere at what cost? Homebase quoted me £34.95 this week for a refill and all my local suppliers were more expensive than gasdeal but hey you may have fun at the tip Stig....

I used to be a cylinder filling plant manager for Flogas and can assure you that this is ridiculously cheap. Also for info. it is illegal to get empties at the tip. You can get them from dodgy skip employees, but you run the risk of getting a dodgy cylinder with perished O rings that is well over due for a pressure test. Check cylinder pressure test dates on the cylinder collar. Hot from me.

I have driven lpg duel fuel car in Australia. No dangerous but needs to be running of petrol for once a month to keep it lubricated.

Don't you mean LNG, liquid natural gas? I used to drive both LNG and LPG powered trucks for BOC on their M&S contract and it can be very dangerous if not handled properly and with cryogenic protection gloves as the liquid is very cold and can freeze your hand solid and fall off in a split second.

This is India and the gas he is carrying is lpg or liquefied petroleum gas not butane or propane sold here. They have battery powered electric scooters now but no gas powered ones . While it is illegal to use these cooking gas cylinders to power vehicles some people still do it using conversion kits . They have CNG or compressed natural gas sold in major cities to power fuel automobiles, taxis and public buses.

We use loads of 47KG propane bottles for our home heating and about 60 a year of the 19Kg cylinders for our hog roast business well worth checking out Gasbottle.net 47KG's only £49.95 delivered and 19Kg £23.95 delivered. Maybe not the quickest quote 5 days delivery but normally deliver within 3 days.

Was checking on this site after buying a bottle locally for £26.00 with bottle returned (ah well, never mind). This seems a very good deal. What worries me is all the negative comments on here from what should be rational and to some extent, educated grown ups. For heavens sake, its a bottle of gas, not a '14 plate Mercedes bought from a main dealer. They are selling the bottles cheaper than others so will be keeping their overheads down to a minimum. Sounds like folks on here were expecting hour by hour updates on how 'their' order is being processed. They may only have one person managing the phone/covering reception etc. who knows. And the guy who turned his bottle away for taking a week to arrive really showed them who's boss ! The gas was in his grasp, yet no, 'Take it back - i'll go and drive to the shops and get my own' !!
I have always enjoyed this site as its saved me money over the years and found some decent bargains, yet its turning into an 'old womans' gossip column ! The world is in turmoil, children are being blown to pieces in Gaza, Christians are being beheaded and crucified by Islamic militants in Iraq and Syria, yet all we have to moan about is that the gas took sooo long to arrive or my regulator don't fit it ! Come on my fellow countrymen, lets take it in our stride, lets not live up to the Aussie 'winging Pom' title. We need to 'man up' and appreciate a good bargain when we see one.

Rant over. Looks like rain this weekend - oh, never mind........

Unfortunately you should have checked all this before lashing out :smirk:

Most bottled gas suppliers will require an exchange cylinder, especially for the smaller cylinders (19kg+ are free on this site)

Yes, unless you can obtain one elsewhere.

The 12kg tank is for FLT (Fork Lift Truck) only. I have not tried looking for an adaptor to convert this type of fitting to a 'POL' fitting but that may be a solution.

See earlier answer.

1. Your add states 'inc free delivery and gas bottle' should read 'incl free delivery and exchange gas bottle', although there is a remark about charging for some bottles ie 'Patio' gas further down. With the propane bottles a charge is applicable for all bottles under 19kg with no exchange, hence all comments re getting empties from tips, fleabay, etc.
2. 6kg propane currently out of stock on website, but I agree, prices are good.

coal burns out, its messy, rather expensive and leaves guests hungry when it burns out too quick or dont cook ur food enough.. gas is more modern and with a decent BBQ u get a lava rocks so same flavour as coal.

Put in your search engine " Amazon gas bottle regulator " go onto their specified site and you will get a menu of several different types to choose from just make sure that you get either an internal or external thread to suite your bottle failing this go to a caravan sales site I'm sure you have one near by.
soldierboy001
2 Jul 14 1 #324
The normal procedure is if you have not got a cylinder that your first purchase of gas requires a deposit against the cylinder plus the cost of the gas. This deal appears to be a one off designed to get people to by their gas from them and then you would become a future customer. Normal business procedure.
If you have to pay the cylinder deposit you would normally get a receipt so that at any time you wanted to return your cylinder and not buy gas you would get your deposit back, no receipt no return of deposit so those people who got their gas without a deposit will not get anything back if they want to return an empty bottle. Ask any seasoned caravaner some of whom have several cylinders for different gases depending on where they are going all over Europe and also several different reducers and fittings.

Ive just spent all my cash on a gas bbq and now have no cash for deposits on tanks and things

Phoned a local flo gas supplier in my area and he was a right arrogants @*#$ ,

He wanted £30 for the tank etc which they usually do,

Ive tried contacting this company from the thread but no reply in nearly a week, do i need to actually pay for the tank if i have no tank to give them in exchange?

Ive noticed that the 11kilo tank now has ''IMPORTANT (RETURNS) – We can only exchange like for like cylinders! We reserve the right to charge a ‘cylinder hire charge’ if any returned cylinder(s) do not match your new order!''

But the 12kilo tank theres no mention of this?

Any help would be great

Only other option is to try find a used tank on the likes of that i can use to exchange

I should not believe their site to much it says 7kg butane was £16.99 now £16.99 you save £2.99 or is my maths that poor.
BeerDrinker
2 Jul 14 #320
All depends on the type you select. The 7Kg butane requires the deposit whereas the 6Kg propane doesn't (although this is out of stock at the moment). It probably means that flogas have an abundance of propane and not so much butane so don't have as many blue bottles.
mjc23
1 Jul 14 #319
Yea I thought that was the cheap part of using this company that you didn't have to pay a deposit for the cylinder.

Flo Gas deliver the cylinders and they are the ones that leave notes at your door if they were unable to deliver the cylinder on that particular day. When I called the number given to arrange my re-delivery for the next day they told me that they would collect my empty cylinder. I explained that I did not want this to happen as my current cylinder was not empty. At this point they connected me with Alfresco, as this was a question for them, not Flo Gas.

I explained the situation to the lady on the phone and she assured me that the old cylinder would not be taken and she would make a note on her system to ensure the delivery driver got this message. As both my girlfriend and I had to work yesterday they were instructed to leave the cylinder in our back garden. To be clear, our cylinder was a 19kg propane gas used for our domestic cooking etc.

Upon returning from work we found a new cylinder had been attached to our regulator and the old cylinder (still around 1/4 full) had been taken!

I am trying to reach customer services now to find out what they are going to do. But be warned, they will take your old cylinder! There seems to be zero communication between Alfresco and Flo Gas, and you can tell Flo Gas are used to getting calls complaining about Alfresco.

Really not worth the saving compared to our local supplier.

Hi we are looking at getting a propane gas bottle off this seller for our patio heater but the person we got the heater off had a calor gas bottle in it , is there any difference in the connections as this looks like the cap on the pipe that connects to the gas bottle just pushes on ?
BeerDrinker
27 Jun 14 #311
All depends on whether you'll be BBQing in colder weather. Butane is good for warm weather but not good under around 10 degrees where propane will work effectively below this temp.

I too bought my BBQ at Tesco and the regulator is clip on, you need to buy one of these regulators http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/kampa-propane-gas-regulator.html they are £3.99 plus delivery. You may get them on Ebay also so check prices and also any local camping stores to you like Go Outdoors etc. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/pennine-leisure-propane-regulator-camping-fuel-p126025

Have to agree, poor comms. It's not that hard to draft a standard email up to all customers each day to advise your item is on the way.

I got home tonight to find a note saying they tried to deliver my regulator and to call the local depot. When I did she told me they were out yesterday too trying to deliver the propane but I had no note yesterday. So if it weren't for the missed regulator delivery I would be maybe sitting here for another week or two wondering when it's due.

I emailed them the other day to ask if they could leave it round the back when attempting delivery, no response.

Hustler1337
22 Jun 14 #299
Thanks Andy and everyone else. Guess a 6KG is way more than enough to last me a year or perhaps 2
soldierboy001
22 Jun 14 #298
An 8.5kg bottle will last for approximately 14 hours on a bbq with 2 burners full on, so 28 hours per burner. So with those figures you can work out your own consumption for your bbq. These figures are from a proper web site not any forum or other type of web site.
You probably won't have them full on anyway so a precise figure is hard to come by just like MPG for a car is hard to calculate for a person due to their driving style, wind, rain and terrain making differences.
BeerDrinker
22 Jun 14 #297
That'll be max throughput. Realistically your BBQ will only use a fraction of that. Somewhere around 150 grams per our per burner seems to be round about the average.
tek-monkey
21 Jun 14 #296
My regulator says 1Kg/hour, so I guess if the BBQ is full on constantly it'll last 13 hours.
andynicol
21 Jun 14 #295
I'd guess I use 3/4 kg per year on the BBQ, previous 15kg Calor bottle lasted me about 3 years but I don't think it was 100% full when I acquired it

Obviously will vary according to use and size of BBQ, but it might just give you a rough idea, 6kg is ample IMO if only for BBQ use, but at this price the larger one would be a better buy.
Hustler1337

Finally got through to Customer Services, extremely friendly and helpful. As mentioned by others, they were very apologetic about the lack of communication and said they had been inundated by orders following the post on HUKD. Bottle and regulator arrived yesterday while we were out; unfortunately, left the wrong regulator (27mm snap-fit instead of a screw-in). A quick call back to Customer Services and, after confirming that I had ordered the correct regulator, they arranged for me to exchange it with a local supplier. Very impressed.

Thanks for all the help regarding regulators. I discovered a Flogas retailer only a mile away & they supplied a regulator at just over £6. Works perfectly. Enquired on replacement bottle prices & they were competitive. They also commented that my 11kg bottle was overkill on a barbecue & it'll be ages before I need a replacement......

Mine arrived yesterday, left at the side of the house as requested on the order. I placed my order last Friday afternoon so I suppose in the scheme of things delivery wasn't too bad.
The only thing that let them down was lack of communication but I suppose the amount of orders they've had to deal with has been overwhelming for them, perhaps they're concentrating on processing orders rather than replying to emails?

Anyway- thanks to the original poster for the deal.

Their customer comments mention "speedy delivery"

The fact that they didn't even bother to make any email contact, answer the phone or respond to any email or telephone messages after a week left me no alternative but to cancel.

They are asking which regulator they need presuming others will know, despite the fact that there have been quite a number of posts describing the different regulators and there compatibility.

If they are THAT inexperienced with regulators / cylinders they should order a new one with the new cylinder IMHO.

18 Jun 14 1 #249
If any are in any doubt about which regulator to use, why not order one when ordering a cylinder...?
redarrowrules to andynicol
18 Jun 14 #250
Would it not make more sense to wait and see what type of regulator you may need once you get the cylinder instead of ordering a regulator to discover the one you currently have is suitable?
BeerDrinker
18 Jun 14 #248
That's not correct. I ordered 6Kg bottle of propane from here and the bottle delivered requires a 27mm clip-on regulator.

I think what type you get will depend on the local company that delivers your gas. From what I can tell, gasdeal has accounts with around 40 or so flogas resellers throughout the UK and what they do is order from your nearest one on your behalf.

I'm a bit confused about clips, regulators and all. Got given a gas BBQ as a present so never bought gas before.

Will the 6Kg or 11Kg Propane gas cylinder work with my BBQ or do I need to buy a different clip for it? Below is a link to the clip (or whatever the correct name is).

That regulator you got is a clip on type for propane. The propane bottles (Red) supplied by these guys are screw type so your clip on will not fit. You have 2 options:

1,Buy a screw in regulator £6-£10

2, Purchase Leisure / Patio gas (Green bottles) - These are designed for the clip on regulators
soldierboy001
17 Jun 14 #240
Butane definitely burns hotter than propane and that is why you have a regulator difference the propane regulator allows more gas to compensate for propane's lower burning heat, that is what happened when we changed to natural gas just a larger or small jet dependant on the gas you are using in a domestic cooker or hob. As you can't change the jets in a BBQ then it is performed by the regulator, hence the name.
Qman
17 Jun 14 #239
Not quite correct, the heat output from a burner is dependent on the wobbe number, British Gas had to increase the pressure when they converted to Natural Gas to maintain the wobbe number the same

It is not allowed to leave gas bottles at tips now so no chance of picking one up there. Flo Gas are a big company and should have stockists everywhere. Propane regulators are interchangeable between all makes. Be careful when buying butane, as there are 2 sized regulators - 20ml and 21 ml Calor use 21 ml, flo gas use 20 ml.
Propane does not freeze and burns at a higher temperature but in reality any is fine for a bog standard summer bbq
andynicol to Mancsguy
15 Jun 14 #229
Both Calor and FloGas Butane cylinders use the same 21mm regulator.
andynicol
15 Jun 14 #227
As Butane has a higher calorific value than Propane it scientifically should burn hotter.

Opinions are split though, confusing the issue is the fact that Butane is heavier, so equal sized cylinders sees less Butane than Propane BUT with Propane working under a higher pressure, it won't last as long as Butane.

Propane can work at temperatures reaching -40 degrees, whereas Butane stops working at around 3 degrees.

Delivery depends on when they're in your area I presume.

For the record, motor-homes/caravans use a 37mb or something regulator.

That means when you find you have a 25bar and a 1-4bar regulator and decide it must be the smaller one you need...
It's not!

Yes, when I'd turned it right down to 1 bar, so it didn't set fire to the stuff next to the stove, it cooked pretty quickly; but after turning the fridge into a freezer, it hasn't worked since on gas or electric :disappointed:.

Greater Manchester operate re-use centres for people that have items that could be re-cycled by other people, it appears that all councils have different rules on this according to their budget I guess, but health and safety is the first priority I assume because they would not have the facility to check all items so basically it would be a no no.

At my local tip and I assume all / most it is no longer allowed to take anything from the tip, against health & safety laws. You used to be able to buy things for low cost but it is no longer allowed.

Besides that, do you seriously think it is better and cheaper to go to your local tip, rummage around to try and find a gas bottle then go and get it refilled somewhere (if gas bottle is safe / useable) than to go online and buy this deal? Serious question?

Thanks beer drinker im just wondering as the calor 13kg bottle refill is only 27 quid and uses the standard clip on regulators where as these flogas ones are the screw regulators apart from the green patio one which is 50 quid with gas.

So the initial saving of the bottle is v good but price in a regulator and i think usual refil price on the flo gas ones are 22 quid = £2/L compared with calor 28.50 = £2.20/L Which is only a saving of 20p and at least with the calor when it runs out you can nip local to swap it out. OMG how confusing are all these damned bottles and regulators.

My old gas BBQ had a regulator on it and I use a big bottle (25kg I think - I'll take a look later tonight when I get home). This has cost me more and more each refill over the past 7 or so years to the point it's about £35 from Morrisons.

My new BBQ came with a regulator that didn't fit my bottle, so I simply swapped regulators on the pipe and it works.

So I have 2 regulators and am hoping I can make use of this Company and their cheaper prices (and perhaps not have such a massive heavy gas bottle too).

Is there some way of telling from the Regulator itself what type it is - are they hard stamped with info on them?

Hang on I'm pretty sure my bottle is blue so does that mean is Butane?

Depends on the regulator on your BBQ. Should either say propane or butane on the top of it. Just to note, you wouldn't use propane in a house heater/fire, as it gives off fumes that can kill. Think BBQ's can use either, with the correct regulator.
mycroft jones to AceT
9 Jun 14 #138
Either will work. Most BBQs come with a regulator for Patio Gas which is just propane. My local Calor approved stockist will charge you £3 more for 5kg of patio gas than 6kg of propane in a red cylinder.

You may feel it's worth popping into your local outdoor shop and buying a screw type propane regulator, the thumbwheel ones are more expensive but easier.

Butane is possibly/probably cheaper but only if you have no intention of using your BBQ in autumn/winter and doesn't everyone have a Boxing Day barbecue?

The main reason for using propane for barbecues is because if left outside for a prolonged period, propane does not freeze.

The statement below is untrue. All country pubs without mains gas use propane.

I emailed them this question last week and they confirmed there is no charge for Propane & Butane bottles but there was a charge for 'Patio' gas bottles as per post 1 here. I ordered Propane for myself and Butane for a friend and they were delivered free with a free bottle, just £21.99 for 11kg full bottle of Propane gas.

I use a portable butane heater,

It cost me one off cost £25 for cylinder and then £22 per refill.

This deal you get a few cylinder but the refil is £22.90 so depending on how many refills you go through over the years it will be a little bit dearer.

Most touring caravans take 6kg propane cylinders ( if it has a screw on fit to bottle ). Calor and Flo-gas take the same propane fitting - so you can use either.

If its a clip on fitting then it has been using butane - my old caravan was like this .But be aware there are 3 different clip sizes - so use the same type of cylinder as already there if you are not sure of the equivalent from another supplier.

Might sound a daft question, but what size bottle will fit my new 2014 Swift Challenger 570 SE. I know it can only take Propane, is this a normal propane fitting that I screw on with a spanner? Cheers

9 Jun 14 #110
A note again that they have the same prices on their ebay shop, if their website is down.

And from that page:

----
To awoid overfilling be most careful !

Remember always refill only total empty bottles !

Gas bottles and cylinders must always be filled ONLY up to 80 %

of total volume.
----

There's a reason they say 'be most careful' - because, very, very bad things could happen if you're not!

On the savings calculations posted above - that also doesn't take account of any fuel used to go to an LPG station as the price given is delivered.

Keep the Calor bottle in the garage or give it away...

As a business we used 19kg Calorgas propane for almost 35 years but with the prices going through the roof we tried flogas 3 years ago and haven't looked back since. I have to order 2-3 days before I need it but I'm paying less than half now of what I was paying for Calor 3 years ago. Butane will provide about 12% more energy than propane so you may get more volume with propane but will use more gas with it
So would be no saving with propane

+ £13.90 postage.

£44 approx outlay to save £9 at best per fill.

For the average BBQ user then refilling once a year it'll take 5 years to pay for itself, and if your a frequent user and fill say twice yearly, it''ll take approx 3 years to pay for itself, and then you'll see the £9 refill saving...?

Beacuse a new patio gas cylinder is £52.97 from them for 11kg. If you get any Calor gas bottle, big, small, propane or butane, no matter what state it is in, from a scrap yard , you can then exchange it for 13kg of patio gas for about £35 maybe cheaper from most places that sell gas.

It's a lot cheaper.
BeerDrinker
8 Jun 14 #55
I think the idea of getting one from a scrappies or similar would be simply to avoid the deposit and would be immediately taking it to the shop for exchange. As you say though, there's no point as there's no deposit on these bottles.
andynicol
8 Jun 14 #54
This.

Also worth noting that Butane is slightly heavier than propane, so when using Propane on a gas appliance it will last slightly longer, as you get more gas in your cylinder.
shakeyjake66
8 Jun 14 #52
Scrap metal dealers often have empty gas bottles that they will give away for free. Costs too much to process them so they end up lying around.
konimitsu to shakeyjake66
8 Jun 14 #53
Why would you bother if these are free and delivered free to your door filled with gas at the lowest price available (currently)? As has been pointed out by another member it may be illegal to get them elsewhere like tips and scrappies and what condition would they be in? Would they be safe? But regardless of all the questions you could ask about legality, safety etc Why would you bother?
0scar222
8 Jun 14 #50
Opposite butane burns hotter ie more energy for same amount of gas but propane better in winter boiling point much lower
If you try and use butane in winter no gas comes out cylinder at near or below freezing
preventing you having BBQ on freezing day lol

_g_
8 Jun 14 #43
No deposit needed.
They do like to collect the old one if you're getting a new one, but aren't fussed = at this price I'm certainly happy to help them out.
(I didn't bring my last one with me because it was empty, for example.)

Calor gas are very expensive because they are THE name in the business.

So, I don't see it as a big issue not getting it refilled, providing you're ok to order a few days in advance.
At some point I'll get a big'un, which is a good bit cheaper, but at the moment I've got free electric included (I'm living in a motorhome while contracting), so just use that and haven't touched the gas for ages.

Don't want to be inflammatory (see what I did there!) but can I point out that there are about 350,000 caravans on our roads that usually carry a gas bottle similar to those sold.
In addition, every ferry company will transport a caravan or motorhome on their ships as will the Eurotunnel.

Anyone with a new bbq will need the patio gas bottle as its for the new push on propane regulators 28mm. You can use the propane bottle to but will involve using the screw regulator and a spanner which is hassle for some so thats why the new version was designed. Also if u do have a butane bottle they can also be used for bbq as u just need to change the regulator to a butane one. The patio gas with no return of an empty bottle is coming up £52. which is pretty similar to prices from one store to another.
