Students get a 4 year subscription to Office 365 (2 computers + 2 mobiles) for £59.99 (works out at £1.25 a month), however, until 28th September you also get a years' free Xbox Live Gold (normally £30-35) - which takes the price of office down to about 63 pence a month!
Also worth noting that this includes 27GB of cloud storage for the 4 years too!
I did check but this deal hadn't been posted before . 60 quid for a year of xbox live and 4 years of office seems like a pretty good deal to me!

OU have .ac.uk accounts, it's along the lines of your [email protected] and is provided by Google. you just need to sign up for it. It's called google app mail or similar.

you do get an .ac.uk through the OU. I had one, also you qualify to register for an NUS card during which you pay an extra £1.50 to make it an ISIC card

FYI for those who currently have a subscription but want to take advantage of this offer:
I already had a 1 year Home Premium sub (free from previous job), so I called the Microsoft Store (call centre) and was told I had to redeem the University subscription when I bought it, and it would start then, even though my current sub finishes May '14.
I did it regardless, and was given the option to leave it for later (under product keys etc) as it is a downgrade (5 PCs to 2 PCs). I chose to continue anyway, and it added the 4 years to my remaining time, so although it downgraded to University, I have it until May 2018, and still get to redeem my xbox live code! If you don't do it this way, and choose to redeem Office later, you will not be able to claim the xbox live code.

I used to openoffice to do all my coursework for my physics degree. Was able to write out all the maths formulas as well and do complex calculations in excel equivalent calc. Thunderbird is an excellent alternative to outlook, been using it for years. Has some feature missing but ususally you can get addons to compensate.
Yes the cloud storage is nice but you can get alternatives to that as well like dropbox or even ftpbox (beta mode with some bugs but its free)

I think that the pack generally sold in store or over internet contains a pin which you go on microsoft website to activate. When activating, you will have to provide the university email address or ISIC number.

Not needed. And as you said, you can easily login and remove licenses from one computer to free up a slot for a new computer. You can have 2 licences running at any one time, there isn't a limited number. It's quite reasonable and convenient, really.

my friend spoke to the support guy who said it's based on hardware setup (the per licence thing), and even if you do change things, you can manage your two licences on your account page, and remove the licence from an existing device if needed (which my friend thought was nice). Seems that the OS used isn't relevant.

You don't need a special email address if you can prove to them that you're in full time education, either at a Sixth Form, a College or a University.
Also nets you 60 Skype minutes every month, I believe. I don't have an Xbox so I haven't lost out too much from when I bought the deal ages ago sans-XBL.

If you cant find a job look up your local Officer Training Corps with the army, massively rewarding, and non deploy-able, and can quit at any time. Can get management qualifications from them too. Plus over the summer I spent a month in Germany assisting with some training and got 1k pay
However yes we few students do sit around all day on the xbox, and all night drinking, so nice find here, heat added

If you read the terms and conditions it says quite clearly that the code is transferable but it is NOT for sale. I plan on giving it to one of my Xbox loving mates and getting then to buy me some beers...i reckon £20 is a fair deal for them and me! I think this is a good deal...btw if you have am android device like my fonepad that is not supported through google play then you can download and side load the apk from this link....it works fine!
I think you get a code you can sell. This is good for me as my xbox died a few years back and I made the switch to PS3.

After the four year subscription is up, can you then not use the office program's until you renew?
tapi to paza12
11 Sep 13#20
if you pay for a new home subscription.
you automatically log in when you open an office program and it confirms your entitlement - remember, it's a subscription.
this allows you to move round the permanent installs (2 at a time for university) and ensures you don't use it when you haven't paid.
i believe that the install has a 30 day grace period for validations, to allow for roaming around and not having an internet connection and then a period where it enters reduced functionality mode, tells you off and asking you to renew before cutting you off.
so yes, you can use it for around 4months before you renew.
