I have been with Virgin for years and didn't know about this free service. Found out whilst reading on their booklets they sent me.
BT Directory Enquiries costs £1.99/ min plus connection fee of 62p
Probably going to go stone cold but hopefully it will help someone.
Free Calls to Virgin Media National Directory Enquires (118 180): Free Calls to Virgin Media National Directory Enquiries Service on 118180 are only available from a Virgin Media Home Phone (cable & national) and Virgin Mobile and are included within your tariff; charges apply for calls to 118180 from other operators. Very useful if you have a virgin mobile.
Can't see myself using it at home, as you would be phoning up to get someone to use Google for you .... on the other hand that sounds well posh!!

There are plenty of people who don't have a smart phone, don't use the internet but have virgin landline.

I do not have a smartphone.
I do not even have a mobile phone of any description, not even a £10 cheapie.
I do have a Virgin Media landline.
So this is useful info for me.
If I ever need to phone someone up, that I do not know the number for.

What a foolish reason to vote cold. Although you and many others (me included) may not use this service, it is still a free service that many will find useful at a time when every other provider chanrges a fortune for the same thing. As such, it has to be HOT.

Do you eat McCoys crisps, real men don't read instructions (but us nerds do) because we have better things to do with our time than deleting shows, just incase you didn't realise you can use the clear button on individual items too, not just folders.
get with the real world.
example I am in the front room and I decide I want to call someone, I know the persons name, and roughly where they live, so I go to my pc, wait 10 minutes... now what do I do? Is there a free service on the internet that I can get a private individuals telephone number?
instead I pick up the phone, dial this number, and in 30 seconds, I am speaking with the person I wanted to talk to.

I think to make it clear its only for people on either landline virgin or virgin mobile but WHO ARE VIRGIN MEDIA CUSTOMERS (ie they have a landline/tv/broadband package) and not just on virgin mobile
knack
9 Aug 13#28
It's not a free service though, the cost is factored into the charge for landline/tv/broadband. It's similar to Lothian Buses in Edinburgh saying you can now travel "free" on night buses with Ridacard (season ticket) whereas before there was a reduced fare payable. As great as this is, free is not accurate when it is really just included in the cost.
Voted hot because VM customers that do use directory enquiries should know about this.

That's not an answer to my question. Thanks for trying, anyway.
I asked whether it's available on PAYG or only for contracts - just saying Virgin Mobile doesn't clarify whether it includes Virgin Mobile PAYG or only applicable to Virgin Mobile contracts. Maybe someone knows?

I have just a basic mobile, on PAYG - it lives in my glovebox and is rarely used , mainly for outgoing calls when I cannot find my destination. I have a broadband bundle that includes free landline calls anytime.

I haven't got a smart phone and wouldn't have one as a gift. I can access the net and e-mail on both my mobiles but, like many people, have no wish to do so. When I see my sons faffing about to answer their smart phones I wonder how smart they really are.

I rang 118180 for a phone number for a hotel in the seaside town of Grimsby/Cleethorpes. Hotel was called Country Hotel in Grimsby and was given the WRONG THE NUMBER TWICE I ALSO CHECKED WITH 100 THE WAS DEAD LINE IT WOULD RING OUT BUT NO WOULD ANWSER IT EVER, well done VIRGIN. I Then rang 150 on my land line to inform VIRGIN of this phone number and they don't seem intrested in what I had found out after trying to book a holiday to Grimsby/Cleethorpes. THANK YOU VIRGIN
