I upgraded a couple of months ago, and got one of these thrown in. They did say to me however that its not mine to keep, so if U were to leave, they would want it back or change me for it.
just to let you all know.

In what way do you think they would change you?

I have one of these, worth noting I didn't have to pay £4.99 postage.

The box doesnt work with wifi, its a picocell which routes traffic over your broadband connection to the 3 network and you get billed accordingly.
They are only available for free to customers with a contract with a phone with a reasonable monthly spend on it.
If/when you get one, it is restricted to registered users only so neighbours, etc. dont connect to it and use your broadband instead.

It's the operator's way of getting you to plug the holes in the network for them.

The box is registered against your account. They can recover the cost that way if needed.
In reality, the odds of this happening for this are very low as we got ours off the back of a contract and have now down graded to sim only. We still have the box with no additional charges.

I am curious if you connect this to Broadband abroad will you be able to use 3 signal with your 3 phone connected to this, or it has a filter for uk ip only?

It's registered at your own address only.

In theory (and I believe some people have done this) yes as you will just be making a small 3 tower in your overseas property.

I was offered one of these due to poor signal over a year ago when I complained but was also given the option of a £5/month discount on both my account and my wife's which we took as we hardly use the 3g internet at home (if ever).

These dont just give you 3G internet, they give you a working signal in what would otherwise be a dead spot.
No point getting £5 a month off if you still cant use the phone at home...

My signal at home is terrible. I have to sit on a window ledge to get decent coverage downstairs! Just rang their tech dept and told them its very weak signal indoors. Their tech guy has escalated it up to their network dept and promised a callback in 48 hours with a solution. Lets see..fingers crossed!

Thanks for highlighting this. I didn't realise Three did one. We moved house 6 months ago and get no Three signal at all, just an occasional Orange signal which is ok for picking up texts but too bad for calls. I don't really mind as I use wifi and the house phone at home but it would be nice to receive calls on the mobile again. I'm at the end of a SIM only contract but will give them a call and see if they will give me one if I stay.

How easy did people find it was to get one of these from Three? I read that initially it was quite a hassle and involved having to go through all the tedious symptoms of bad reception and at least one call back before they offered it.

Instead of connecting to a cell outside, you are connecting to a cell inside your house.
This gives you max signal and your phone works as normal. All calls, txt, internet are billed back to your 3 account.

Apologies, mustn't have worded myself well enough - I meant that I could get a phone signal 100% but no 3g internet signal 'at home' which I didn't need anyway as I use home wifi whilst at the house. In urban areas, I could get 3g fine - my estate is just a 3g blackspot on 3.

But 3 are only a 3G network (hence the name). They have no 2G network to fall back on like the other operators in a low signal area so you either get a 3G signal or you don't.
Either way as you use wifi at home then that isn't an issue for you but if you get voice service in your home then you should also be getting data.

Phoned 3 about this and went through the process of determining whether I was eligible. After a callback and repetition of all the questions I asked the first time they conceded that the signal in my area was poor and that the Home Signal box would fix this. However, as I'm on a Sim-only contract and just out of minimum term, they said I would have to take out a handset contract to get the box (which would then be free). If I'd taken out another SIM only they said I could have it for £50. As my wife is on Three too and we have both had no signal for 5 months after moving house I had hoped they would make more of an effort to keep two customers but sadly no. Their cheapest handset contract is £7/month which isn't bad but I don't really want a 24month contract so I think I'll just switch networks.

I took out a 12 month sim only on friday and there is only one spot in the whole house i get a signal and its only one bar. Phoned three today and complained about the signal issues they ran a few tests and then offered me a home signal box and to my surprise free of charge and free delivery . So you can get them for free even on sim only you just need to ask....

I have one of these, it gives me full signal but I'm missing a lot of calls that go straight through to voice mail instead of ringing. Going to phone Three and see what they will offer..

I have one 5/5 it works. Lol Three do try I think more than any other network. No other network would give you this. Let's be honest! I want the white one not the stupid black one though!

Let's be honest - Three's network is one of the worst! I've been with them for years but often I get no signal in places where other people still have signal!

Hi great to know three give you them for free.
I'm with vodaphone at moment on phone contract and had to pay £99 about 5 years ago they now charge £150.
I will be changing to three at end of contract in November as I want unlimited internet when I'm away from home, wife will be changing also but she needs good home signal, will only be getting sim only deal for mo though as keeping existing iPhone 6 plus as they still work great and will be saving £50 a month.
