Have you known many drives to come pre-loaded with films on from new? lol The simple answer is no this doesn't come with any pre-loaded films or music for that matter just like most if not all drives from new you buy today. :confused::neutral_face:

Well its pretty simple. No need to go into dept of the situation lol. If you have two HDD's then maybe you may need to use one more due to having video's stored on there or music which you listern to frequently. Then on the other HDD say you have important work related files which you won't need to access as frequently right so chances are you are going to use the drive with the music on compared to the work so making that drive have more head movements / rotations compared to your work one... so theres more chance of that drive failing due to more usage than the work drive. If both of these drives were just one then there would be more chances of losing the information on that drive compared to spitting it onto two drives simple.

I can't understand that reasoning. Assuming HDDs are good for a certain number of head movements / rotations regardless of capacity then increasing the number of disks increases the chance of having a disk fail. If you have adequate backups a disk failure is merely inconvenient of course; but more failures = more inconvenience.

Yeah sometimes its best to spread things out or in this case information/programs/files instead of putting them all in one basket or so to speak as it spreads out the risk of HDD failure in my opinion. :wink:

All have been pre-formatted in NTFS so far that ive used from WD so most likely NTFS as i wouldn't see why they'd change now if they have always used NTFS format for the most of their range. :smile:

One thing I can never figure out with these usb3 drives, is that if you want to connect it to usb2, do you need a cable that connects to two usb2 ports? I can never spot anything on the specs that says one way or the other. The ones we have at work are usb2 only, but require two usb2 ports very close together due to the cable, and the three usb2 ports I have on my laptop are all spaced well apart from each other, so I can't use it.

Can't speak for the WD 500GB; but my Buffalo 1TB USB3.0 runs quite happily on a single USB 2.0 port (on my laptop, PC, TV and Blu-ray).
From the images on Currys this has a standard micro-b USB socket on the drive enclosure, although they don't show the cable I can't imagine it being anything other a standard micro-b USB to single USB cable.
Reviews on Amazon mention USB2.0 port (singular) and report it runs on TVs etc. so I can't see it needing two USB 2.0.

Unless you are plugging the drives at work into pretty old computers/laptops you'll probably find only one USB connection is required.

If you are trying to find out if you can use this on a USB 2.0 port then yes you can but if you mean do all 3.0 HDD's have these kind of plugs/connectors on the end then no these drives have their connectors built into their boards which means you couldn't remove this and use as an internal for a desktop if that's what you mean. Unsure tho on what you mean tho so don't know if any of that information helped.

WD quality isnt what it used to be, however this seems to be the cheapest usb 500gb external I've seen, I'm really tempted but money is tight..
