KH 980 Lidl intelligent Delta V charger :- independently charge 1-6 AA /AAA cells, 1-4 C/D cells, or 1-2 9v PP3.

The circuitry analyses each battery and may perform discharging, initial pulse charging and then standard charging on an individual basis..
This is very important for anyone either making regular use of multiple batteries or topping up half charged batteries. Older used sets of batteries can benefit more due to age related mismatch/variance and certainly helps ensure all of the batteries are fully charged.
The only niggle in this unit is that sometimes a completely dead zero voltage battery first needs a kick start from a dumb charger such the poundland USB charger.
Anyone still using the flash function of a camera with alkaline batteries will find that NiMh batteries last at least twice as long - times one thousand.
Note that no batteries are included.
The standard retail price in Lidl is £12.99(before the VAT rise) and certainly great value even at that price.

It is a great charger but I'll also add that you do have to very occasionally kickstart some batteries. This has only ever happened to the Tronic 2400mAh AA batteries (grey/black) I got which completely exaggerate their capacity.

Sometimes shows good batterys as faulty. Placing them in a standard charger for charging cycle solves the problem.

My local Lidl had a car park clearance sale over a year ago, they had a deal fill your trolley for £20.00.
Well I filled mine with LED torches, electricals, tools, mixed goods and 10 of these chargers.

That 7dayshop stuff is good value with great starter packs. And their delta V one is amazing value even if it does not charge cells individually.
Lidl's eneloop type are £3 for 4 AA when available.

I have both 7 day shop and this Lidl charger; there is no comparison the Lidl is way ahead in every aspect.
Not especially a hot deal as it is always around this price, but if you want a charger you will not get better for the price.

ive got one from dealextreme, its had loads of review on the website and its more compact than this, 4 independent channels with status for each as well as refresh function. charges at 525 for 4 AA or 1000mah for 2 AA, so pretty quick!
And its about the same price as this - but probably charges faster.

I have bought two mains-powered devices from DealExtreme - a LiIon battery charger and a netbook power supply. Both were electrically unsafe and the netbook power supply went bang (literally) the second time I used it. Some of the obvious way these fakes (CE mark? Ha!) cut corners is to leave out the filter components and to have cable claiming to be 0.75mm2 when it contains hair-thin cores. I would strongly recommend you do not buy anything mains-powered from DealExtreme for your own safety.

Charge is 1000 mah per each AA cell.
A very good compromise rate(2 hours +) with 15 minute charges being very destructive.

I have been using this charger for the last year or so and it is excellent. You can actually charge up to 8 batteries at one time dependeing on size, i.e. 6 x AA or AAA PLUS 2 x 9v batteries.
You can also mix battery sizes.
I agree with the statement relating to completely dead zero voltage battery sometimes first needing a kick start from a dumb charger.

Have this and an ansmann charger. They are basically the same, but the ansmann costs 3 times more...
Great charger, and worth the price in my opinion... Wouldn't bother with faster chargers, as they are likely to damage the cells in batteries from what I've read...

Great for eneloop batteries too as not too fast a charge.
Better a slower charge than wreck the batteries for the sake of 5 minutes.

A very good charger but forget about the Tronic batteries!
Buy Sanyo Eneloop or the 7Dayshop "Good to Go" equivalents.
They last twice as long in my Roberts digital radio that I take to work.
If the battery charger reports that the battery is faulty (red flashing LED) leave it in place overnight (or for a while) with the LED flashing. Then remove it and re-install in the charger. This usually works for me but I have had to "force" a battery a couple of times with a non-intelligent charger.

I have 3 of these, brilliant, independant channel, diagnostic with refresh, they measure the battery fill, refresh, charge fairly quickly at a healthy rate, detect the fill then switch to trickle......the absolute best for your batteries. Both nicad and nimh batteries. The two 9v slots are only on a timer. The only down side is 1) You need to brute charge a completely dead battery in another charger to start it off, it confuses this charger into thinking the battery is faulty.
I am one of the people who is convinced this is the same as the + £40 Ansmann charger... it looks the same and does the same.
Cannot recommend enough ........ The other chargers people drone on about do not care for your batteries, yes they can charge them in a nano second but they cook the batteries..... buy another set of batteries and get one of these.

I have this charger and it's good for the money. It's designed and manufactured in Germany I believe, and tested by TUV, so at least in theory it should be much safer than unbranded imports from China.
It does work very similarly to the Ansmann energy series chargers but not exactly the same (the refresh cycle is different) and inside they are different, they have different circuit boards. Also the newer Ansmann "plus" chargers have delta temperature (dT) charge control which is even better than -dV especially on tired batteries.
That is the only reservation I have about this charger - be careful with older/worn batteries. I charged some old Maplin rechargeables in this and the charger failed to cut off. I think they were charging for probably 5 hours or so and got so hot that the outer labels melted off, pretty close to disaster I think. I'm a bit worried that there doesn't seem to be a backup timer cutoff for cases like this. Maybe it just wasn't long enough.

Unbranded imports from China are not the problem. Unbranded (or fake branded - the netbook power supply I bought had Acer branding) imports from China via methods that bypass the regulations and cannot be held responsible for their actions, e.g. DealExtreme, are the problem. For example, there was space on the PCB of the two devices I bought for filter components, but they weren't there. The same factory would simply be able to install those components to supply the same device to more legitimate markets.

No you can't, you can check whether they have an item on offer in that store (put a post code close to a store into their website as some offers are regional) but you can't check stock numbers in any store

I got an energiser one with a fan the back of it,charges batts in 15 mins would this one be better seems it charges them a bit slower??maybe extend the batt life?

Yes, it seems to be the consensus that very fast chargers (< 1 hour or so) reduce the life of the batteries. But if you simply must have them done in 15 mins...

got mine its brill got 2 packs of 2500 AA's for a fiver as well i have a high drain DSLR camera
they refresh when the LED's flash red green then constant red for charging
looks and feels good quality was in cannock 9:30 monday i got the last 2 packs of 2500 batterys and there were 4 more chargers one already opened !

Lidl usually opens one packet so that people can prod and poke the contents rather than open all the rest. Unfortunately some of the claims of battery capacity are dubious at best - their capacity is likely to drop rapidly as they age.

bought one today ,just lucky had 2 left one was opened picked the boxed one ,
its a good charger threw some batteries charged them in under 2 hours ,,basic ones i think 2000 mah ones ,,i tried ,,but showed red flashing light on 3 others i put in ,,so take them out and are in the unirose charger overnight
