Ok so not the biggest saving in the world but every little helps i suppose.
Basically If you get an Asda Christmas Saver card and if you have £144 on it by Monday 23rd November they will reward you by adding an extra £6 to your card for it.
We do most of our shopping at Asda so im thinking going into store a couple days before and adding £144 to a card which we would prob spend in Asda anyways.
Hope this is a small help for people who shop at Asda. - plz dont vote cold just because you dont shop there.
FAQ's from the Asda website:
A Christmas Savings Card is a really useful way of saving for Christmas. You can save up to £144 on it, and can earn a bonus on the bonus day depending on how much money you have on it. For 2009 the bonus date is Monday 23rd November.
If you have the full amount of £144 then you'll get a £6 bonus. Don't worry if you don't have the full amount saved though, you'll still get a bonus. A balance of £49 to £96 gets you a £1 bonus, and a balance of £97 to £143 gets you £3.
The maximum savings amount on a Christmas Savings Card is £144 and you can save money on more than one card.
The balance on your Christmas Savings / Gift Card can be used in-store either in full or as part-payment (excluding third party concessions or products, petrol and lottery tickets) whilst your card is valid.
Is this not an every year almost every supermarket thing?
I know morrisons is buy £97 get £3 free
( which is basically the same )

There was one of these cards in the NOTW on Sunday. So many are winning cards where you can get between £1 and £50 I think. Don't have an ASDA near me but something for nothing can't be cold!

Is it when you spend £144 on the card or acctually putting money on the card like a prepaid debit card?
I read the whole thread but didn't understand it properly xD

It's the equivalent of saver stamps.
So you pay to have money put on the card
( like a gift voucher @ hmv and a prepaid card as you said ) Put £144 and you
have £150 to spend in Asda...........

Makes sense to put the money in right at the deadline so it can still earn interest in a bank account until then.

Yep, an extra 25p would always come in handy
Better to stick a tenner a week on these IMO, and then you can splash out at xmas. 4% return is better than any bank (current account certainly)
I think there is a date restriction on these too? Can't be spent before xx and must be spent by yy (or you lose the bonus). In fact it sounds like (from the FAQ) you only get the bonus on one day this year - that is far more restrictive than previous years and doesn't sound right to me. Surely its FROM 23rd Nov, not ON 23rd Nov??
If its on the 23rd only, then its cold from me (although already voted hot LOL)

yep sounds good, thanks for posting. I buy asda cards online through ncma saver to get 5% off though so not sure if I can use the card to top up another card, but worth a try ;-)

works out a good interest rate if you put the money on it at the last minute, did this last year there is always a thread on it on MSE each year

This card has been around for years at ASDA.
You put as little or as much as you want onto it when you do your shopping- each week/ month - however you choose, the bonus payment is made ON 23rd November so if you want to get the £6 bonus you must have a balance of £144 on the card by 23.59 the previous day.
You can fill as many cards as you want (most that can be put on one card is £144)- cards can be used anytime during the year and you are not restricted to using them for Christmas, but most people save a little each week then use them towards Xmas food /pressies.

ASDA get the bulk of your Xmas spend and you get an easy / free way to save and a £6 bonus at the end of it. Really can't argue with this being a good deal.

And of course if you lose the card do they get to keep the remaining balance or is there a way to reclaim it?
Just checked online and you register your card to protect your balance if you lose it.

you cant use your credit card to put anything more than £50 on a gift card....... and the bonus is just given on one day but you can spend the money whenever you like, however if the card is not used (added to or spent) for over a year then asda take something like 1 pound a month off it to keep it open ... i know this coz i work on checkouts at asda  x

As someone as pointed out this beats any current/savings account hands down (Even Santander 123) and if you are an Asda shopper its great. I normally start saving around Easter adding £12 a week until about 3 weeks before Xmas. Then fully top up 3rd card. You make £18 and total Xmas month shopping is covered.

Sorry to bump such an old thread but cant find an answer online. Ive found out the bonus day was in Nov. Does that mean that Ive lost out on the extra £6? (I have £144 on my Christmas shopping card).
