There's a link in the previous comments that is dead, but this article has a lot about vegan bodybuilding:
The bloke was being trained by Vince Gironda and it was Vince who had put the bloke on the extra protein diet. It was a long time ago that I read the article so can't remember any more details, not even sure what the quick muscle mass fix was needed for, not too sure whether steroids were used either, (not my cup of tea).
I must admit I used to eat a hell of a lot of egg whites with two or three yolks added. Probably got through a couple of dozen eggs a day.:-D I much prefer the chicken though, or Turkey.
Personally I use myproteins true whey protein powder and Tropicana Great Stuff for recovery.
I also used Tropicana Body Mass and T Max, but sadly neither of these are available any more, worked great for me, don't know why they were stopped. :disappointed:

Fair enough. Like I say the avi is me so I like to think I know my work.
As for the amino tabs - waste of time for that idiot. Protein is essentially the amino acids he's taking, so a good diet with a good mixture of chicken, tuna, milk, eggs, whey etc etc will give him all he needs...
All the best

Probably 'poisoning' was too strong a word. Sorry!
I can't substantiate anything I've said because i read it all in bodybuilding mags during the 90's. I tend to ignore anything the newspapers prints and base my knowledge on articles in magazines although I haven't bought or read any in over ten years as I had an eight year break from training and have only just got back into it about 20 months ago.
I did read an article years ago about someone on intensive training who was taking a hundred Amino acid tablets a day on top of food (extreme I know) for a week and then detoxing the following week.
I've never had any trouble with gut/digestive tract, it's no different now at 46 to what it was at 26 or 16. Perhaps I'm just fortunate .
I read in a bodybuilding mag the pros of larginine years ago and have taken it ever since when training and consuming extra protein. Plus there are always the advantages in the bedroom too. :w00t:

To me the word poison suggeststo me (in a very emotive manner I may add!) you are making the point/suggestion it will be damaging them - not so.
Of course as you age, your digestive tract will also age, making the absorbtion of anything more difficult, this is not however down to your kidneys, this is down to your gut/digestive tract. You are making up the fact that the irregularities are kidney based. Do you have/can you back up your claims with any studies showing your claims?
There is/are no studies anywhere that suggests that I can find that have concluded what you are saying. There was an article in 2003 in the awful Daily Mail that suggested high protein diets in women were damaging (from a survey, not study, when 1600 women were questioned about their diets) but in all subsequent studies, no link has been made.
Trust me, I take body building very seriously hence i've always endevoured to ensure i'm as healthy as possible whilst doing so. I apologose if it appears i'm picking you out and making fun or the like but I don't like mistruths from hearsay being propergated as the real truth when it is not the case.

nice one mate, lots of good information rep to Matt.Wild and a few others for the other links and advice.
I've been using myprotein for 2 years myself i recently ordered 5kg of strawberry impact whey for a nice £56 really good stuff one of the first orders i made was for 10kg of unflavored whey which i managed to get around 5kg finished theres still 5kg left but its out of date by about 4 months now thinkin i should probably chuck it away thats alot of protein powder going to waste :disappointed:

Your whey will be good for a good while yet. When the taste starts to go, its time to throw it out. If not, i'll take it off your hands i'm that sure it will be ok. If you look on various websites they occaisonally have offers for out of date whey - its totally safe - the dates are required by law, not necessarily making the food/drink bad.

I didn't say it damaged the kidneys, the spots and bowel irregularities are the kidneys way of dealing with the protein be it because of high intake or your body just disliking a certain brand. I've tried a few different brands of Whey protein and never had any adverse reactions. (I'm now 46). I usually find that apart from a touch of wind initially after changing brands it settles down after a week or so.

Everyone is different. Get the smallest volume first ie. 500g packet/tub if available and test it out. Different types of Protein to try out also ie. Micellar Casein, Isolate & concentrate

:-D
Ok then.
Fact is that there are no studies that have ever shown a high protein diet causing kidney damage in persons with normal kidney function. Only people who already have a pre-existing kidney condition need to be concerned with keeping their protein in check.

The benefit of having a powder thats been formulated for taste and mixing over an unflavoured one, is that its simple and convenient. Half my unflavoured whey went down the sink because I just run out of things to do with it and I was taking cnp recovery to the gym in a shaker. These days I've cut down on whey supplements due to the chinese milk scandal.
Matt.Wild to BargainHunter333

Do you have any idea where UK whey is made? If you think whey is from China and had melamine added you are sadly mistaken. Its either New Zealand or a couple of dairies in the UK.
Do you have any basis to your comments? The simple fact is All in 1 is the same company as Reflex. The whey is EXACTLY the same whey, without a flavour added. Its mixability is the same.
The avi is me. You can either pay for a brand name and its supposed extra features - that do nothing - or pay less and eat more real food and the odd shake
Granted CNP is nice, but i t won't do ANYTHING more than standard whey and a cup of dextrose.

I was thinking of side affects perhaps this is a bit premature. My example comes from one of my friends product. I think it was from a company called USN now it worked great for him.
He gave me around around 10 servings it tasted fine no problem but 3 days later I started to get these spots on my arms and then my bowel movement become irregular.
My point is I wish these companies did free samples so that you can see if the product gives you any problems. If I got 5kg and the the first 60g gave me problems I would be very unhappy.

This will be down to your kidneys having trouble processing the protien and in effect your poisoning them. Have you tried taking larginine capsules, these help to keep the kidneys in good working order.

Creatine is a chemical found mainly in red meats. It is also synthesized. Whey is the result of dairy cast offs... Remember Miss Muffets sitting on her tuffet eating curds and whey? Whey is just that - the water part of milk when it seperates.
Dried off, it contains up to about 80% protein (normally between 70-80%).

ON contains a lot of sugar based carbs - lots of . You are much better off making your own from whey protein, semi skimmed milk, oats, a little dextrose, banana and peanut butter and flavour of your own choice. That way you have a mixture of quickly absorbed protein and slow, quickly absorbed carbs and slow - meaning you get a good release of nutrients as of when you need. Cheaper too.

Hmm still a good deal, if you can actually find/get it, but 545g won't last long!
If anyone wants to put on Mass then try 'Serious Mass' by ON, you CANNOT FAIL to put weight on if you take this with a good diet and training program (Max OT for example). I take half a serving in the morning, and half at night, but both with a bit extra protien via Reflex Instant Whey. half a serving has 25g protien, 125g of carbs and loads of other stuff. 600 cals. I really struggle to put Mass on but this stuff worked for me! Helped me up to my target 4000+ cals a day.
£28 inc delivery for 10lb of flavourless whey. Add flavour to suit or just drink it plain (I do, with 100g of oats, nice 600 cal top up meal, add a couple of scoops of peanut butter and banana and you have a 900 cal meal with plenty of proteins, carbs and essential fatty acids.

Not a bad price for Promax esp from the likes of Tesco etc
But as said above, your as well buying in bulk.
I recommend MyProtein or All-in-one. They both price match each other, so your always getting a good deal and the unflavoured stuff is of high quality and mixes very easily in my shaker bottle. Also tastes fine with water, just make sure its very cold.

Good deal for Promax if you can find it - works out cheaper than all discount supplement brands at 2.2kg.
Personally, I wouldn't touch the 5kg 80% Whey with a bargepole - poor quality protein blend. I use myprotein Hurricane XS (when I know I need to save cash) or PHD iso-synergy 7 (when I'm feeling flush with cash).
Most proteins are much of a muchness, but get the highest whey protein isolate %age and look out for aspartame sweeteners.
