carefull if you want a fire for heat!!!
I bought a similar type with a glass screen in front. I put it on full wack and sit right next to it and can hardly feel the heat at all.

i have a similar one and it gives out no direct heat. instead it sends heat upwards then the heat hits the ceiling and comes down the wall opposite. so, ironically the place furthest from the fire is the warmest!!!???

i have a posher one of these.
just be aware they are glorified electric fan fires. approx 50p per hr to run and don't give out that much heat.
good point: you may be able to remove the faux logs and put something decent in there. i have got white pebbles, which came with the fire which suit the modern fire surround. or perhaps get some driftwood, or something to go with the theme of your room.

Is this forum about what you like or dislike or what goes with your posh carpets, i dont think so.
Everyone is different and posts should not be rubbished just because you dont like the look of a item.

Hate to tell you this, but a post count isn't proportional to quality of post! Salient point, Steve!
As for the item, it's just the kind of thing we want for our lounge once it's been redecorated (oh no! It's not in fashion!!!11!1! *yawn*) - however, might miss this one... it seems to have a very large surround. Looking for something a little subtler - however, great price and heat added!

You obviously cant read , i wouldnt have anything of shopping channels...as i said i was channel flicking , was curious to what kind of junk they sold to idiots who believe in the so called RRP they claimed.
I have a right to express my view without being slagged off , if you love this item then buy it if it suits youre home fabby dabby doo:roll:
I for one just expressed how vile looking it was , but as i know some people dont have taste so hey some people will like it :whistling:
Infact i have many friends asking my advice on matters off home decor , maybe i would offer it to some if they wanted it but hey it looks like ill just get slagged off so i will not bother.
You dont need a lot of money to have a nice looking home , its just the case of knowing what goes and whats stylish and whats in and whats not.

I wasn't " slagging " you off, I was expressing an opinion, based on your comments that you saw the same item on Bid Up TV.:whistling:
Fortunately, no 2 people have the same taste, what makes you think that your taste is so superior to others?

Anyway, back to the discussion in hand - you say these give out virtually no heat? What would be the preference? a gas fire do you think? We are in the process of buying a new house and I wanted one of these but not if they aren't effective - and also don't want a noisy fire either.

is is no noisier than your tv or your computer fan.
yes they do give out heat, not just immediayely infront as the heat comes out of the top of the case.
i have one of these and would recommend spending a bit more to get a cooler one. it is cheaper to buy than gas and cheaper to install. so long as you don't have it on all day, the running cost would be no more than the set up costs of a gas fire. have you even got a gas pipe by the fire area?
it is easy to install just mount it on your wall, if you can attactch shelves to a wall you can manage this.

Glad you think you#ve got taste but everyone's taste is different and a lot of people might not like what u do. so this is a nice enough looking fire for a decent price...

this is the one i have got. i got it for £400 3 yrs ago. prices have gone down a lot since then. homebase have them on store, its 10% day soon. it looks much nicer than the picture, i have had many compliments on it and would look great in a new home. you may get it cheaper if you trawl the internet.
