Picked one of these up yesterday. A good device to keep in your car to power a variety of mains powered devices.
Retailing at around 30-40 pounds in other stores.

A USB can inverter! If that helps keep your lager cool after you’ve opened it then count me in.

Personally I'd spend the extra and get at least 300W, I think things like laptops will take more than 150w.

You’d be hard pressed to find a laptop that consumes 150W; most ship with AC adapters rated for between 65 and 95W.

I bought this inverter from Aldi for my camper van. I took it back because the fan is too noisy. Although this may only be a problem if you want it to power a portable TV or watching DVDs on a laptop.
A 150W inverter will easily power a laptop computer, they use about the same power as a 15" portable LCD TV... About 30 to 50 watts.

Fair enough, thought they used more than that. I stand corrected!!!!

There are some laptops that consume more than 150W AC such as the Alienware m9750.
My desktop which is a C2D 2.67, 500GB SATA, HD 3850 512MB O/C consumes about 150W DC when running 3DMark06 although I’m sure it could consume more than that if I pushed it.
Thanks for that, it has put me off buying one.

Keeping my beer cool whilst driving isn't the problem, it's finding somewhere to put it when I spark up a fag. The drinks holder is on my left so I tend to put it on the dash, the problem is that it falls over if I go over a bump and then I have to bend down and pick it up and mop the floor which is apparently dangerous to do whilst driving.

uh will this be ok to use with an air bed compressor? how do I find out if it will work without buying it?

It would be fine to use with an air bed compressor, they dont use very much power, certainly nowhere near 150W.

Incidentally, Aldi had these on special last December, which was when i bought mine.
This item is not listed in their website at the moment. It could be that a few stores just had some left over.

Seems a good item, especially for those portable dvd players or charging you DS / PSP. I would watch your cars battery though, you might end up flat if your not careful. Older car batteries dont take much to drain the charge.

They also have some 300W ones for £24.99 - I picked up the last one of each from Blackpool last weekend (wasn't sure how miuch power a PS2 needed - and you can always take things back easily!)

Would this enable me to run a small fridge in the car? I have a beer fridge which I could load up with beer, tonic and stuff.
It's a nightmare having to keep stopping at pubs when I'm on a long journey.
What about a microwave?

A small beer cooler would be ok, but make sure you only use it when the engine is running or it will kill your battery in no time.
A microwave is a definite no no.... Even the cheap underpowered ones are 600W.

how about a popcorn maker.....or a candyfloss machine, surely it would power a baked potato oven or a pizza griller.......a 4 slice toaster or waffle iron,a vertical kebab cooker would surely be ok................

Would you be able to power an angle grinder with one of these. I was thinking about getting an angle grinder & one of these powerplug things - mainly to remove a clamping device

Are you removing the clamp from your own vehicle, or offering this as a service to others?

I'm very much into "green issues", if I keep my car running all night will I be able to run an extension from the car to my fridge ( and the boiler off a 2 way)? That way I can turn the mains switch off.

Air bed fine. I do it with the engine running just in case.

Extremely disappointing even at £12.99 and if I can find the receipt its going back to Aldi! The application was powering an Acer Aspire 1300 laptop in the car. OK its an old laptop that I bought very cheaply as a project (its 20GB hard-drive is three parts full!) The laptop power adapter states 70W maximum and as 70W is less than half of 150W it should surely work OK? Er-actually NO as the laptop cursor jumps all over the place making me think that I had been scammed into buying a laptop that has a virus.
Back home on genuine mains the Acer works perfectly so my conclusion is that the inverter is useless. Unless a Zobel Network or some kind of spike filter can be rigged-up the inverter is simply useless electronic junk that they charge for dumping at the tip. Take care!
