I am sure there are stories about all providers but BT are just horrendous - lovely people, always very pleasant on the phone but they cannot sort out the many problems that their system creates. All support can do is offer apologies and make a note, and then nothing happens.

I managed to get the £90 cb and £150 g/c

when you get the g/c I registered it and then paid the BT bill with it. you can also pay the £59 on the first bill too..

so if the £120 still kicks in thats £10 a month.. very hooooooooot good deal!

after 12 months move back to sky and grab the reward too.. been doing this for years.

there will always be people who have the same experience with other providers, every single deal like this regardless of provider gets the same comments, "this company is rubbish", "avoid this company"

yes people have issues, some will always have issues whoever they choose to use for internet

remember your experiences are not representative of everyone, I have never had an issue with BT, I also never had an issue with Virgin when I was with them

if you ever have an issue with BT about services then make a complaint and get it escalated as i have done many times and all times i have had excellent service and forms of compensation. If you dont use the complaints service and get it escalated then never expect a resolution. I have had over £300 in account credits and 2 MasterCard loaded with £100 because of minor faults and misinformation's. Saying that there broadband sucks for online gaming the only reason i use broadband.

I'll second that, I'm with them now, absolute shocking customer service.

I made a huge complaint due to a disastrous setup process. In the end they offered me £2 compensation for the delay.

If you can get a good deal and get lucky with an easy setup process then fair enough. Just hope you don't have any problems. Good luck when you have to call them to cancel, that's another story.

10000% Agree, I have an ongoing nightmare with BT spanning 4 months and counting! The number of hours of calls, missed call backs etc are honestly shocking considering this is BT for goodness sake! TalkTalk have 10 times better customer service!

Cant be worse than talktalk whos customers contact details got hacked and now they (including me) get calls from indians who want you to connect to teamviewer so they can "fix your internet connection" aka infect your machine to steal more data. Top tip: if you want them to stop calling as muchm tell them you only have an ipad in the house, as they cant do much with that.

BT are horrific, everyone I know who has had them says so, my experience also and those around me. I've just lodged a complaint with Ofcom they kept telling me from June 2016 for overcharging was sorted, still is not, they also with 30 days notice of April 2nd charges are billing everyone FULL price final bills till contract end date that is moving to the Sky/MSE £64 deal. Complaints India is just a outsourced company that's is there to hinder customers, go straight to Ofcom people and lodge a official complaint if they do not resolve a issue and further complaint within 5 days. I would go for this deal if not for Sky £64 because I am clued up but forget it if you find BAD customer care intolerable to deal with, it's almost like the old standard of 3UK third party care staff deal with BT complaints.

Heat anyway OP!

Really hot. I switched to BT in Nov with 125 GC and 130 Qudco. No problems since then. I must say BT smart hub is really very good. Prior to BT I had sky and TT. I would always struggle for range / speed in first floor bedrooms. I also tried my own Dual band Asus / TP link routers, they were only marginally better.
But since I got BT smart hub, I get really good range in all rooms, speed drop with the distance is very minimal. I removed all the range extenders etc. Just for smart hub itself, I feel it's worth it.
Scottola to jaques_kalis
14 Mar 17 #72
I have to say this is my eperience so far too. I came from Sky and even with an ASUS standalone good router, the BT hub is much better at range and speed, I've uplugged my repeaters as well. I'm pretty close to the exchange, but the speed on BT is so much better as well for me.

If you have bt tv then at the moment there is a free tv starter package then you get bt sport for free until aug1st then 3.50pm from there on. Or if you have entertainment max or toral entertainment package it's free and you get an upgrade to bt ultra hd free too which is usually £5 extra pm

STAY AWAY FROM BT! I was tempted by their offers (with mastercard reward) last year, but had to cancel after many issues over the transferring of my phone line. When I did get through they weren't equipped to deal with my issue.

Personally. Sky. I've used all the major ones (plusnet, talk talk, andrews & arnold and virgin media).
The only good ones were A&A but were a bit expensive and capped data, and sky. Virgin would break regularly for me.

Been a sky broadband only customer for a year, 1 dropout... for 5 minutes. With Virign I lost count after the 20th time... no speed problems, no wifi issues (although why anyone would rate an ISP because of the wifi signal is a bit strange to me bad wifi = bad ISP eh ??? odd...)

I signed up for BT about 5 days ago, any idea if I get in touch they will bump me up to this deal? Got the £28.99 + £8.99 TV deal with Unlimited and £125 Mastercard + £180 Quidco.

14 Mar 17 1 #116
Nooooo! Damien!! Don't do it!

I made the same mistake of trusting BT to apply a "new deal" to an existing sign-up before going live. BIG MISTAKE!

1. Cancel the existing order.
2. Wait for cancellation to be confirmed.
3. Get another confirmation (for peace of mind) that it has been cancelled (use Twitter to do so, don't call!).
4. Start a fresh new order through TCB/Quidco if applicable.
5. Get a new activation date.
6. DON'T MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THE ORDER TILL IT'S ACTIVATED (if you do, then be prepared for endless phone calls that will drive you round the bend/up the wall.
7. This is the least you can do for the new order to progress smoothly.

I signed up here as a member many moons ago and visit every now and then. I've not posted any deals either as family life has taken over

I came here earlier today and saw your post as the last comment at the time and felt compelled to stop you from making the fatal error that I made. It took me 4 months to resolve (family life suffered a lot during this time !)

It may still go horribly wrong but if you've signed upto BT and want THIS deal, then don't trust them to do it on the existing order.

Good Luck!
robertr to iamdamien
15 Mar 17 1 #191
They won't adjust as the offer is exclusively for a new online order, but you are within your 14 day 'cooling off period' that starts from the day the order is placed, so you can call and cancel the order and then order this one online.

BT are horrendous for existing customers. my contract is finished and I'm now paying £2 more so £46 for this. I spoke to them and they offered me 12 months at £44 or £39 for a 24 month contract. Asked if I can sign up for a new contract and told yes but still have to pay for activation and new box even though I already have them. If I want to leave then there is a £70 disconnection fee . All to push a button. Really wish there was more competition for a good fibre deal.

BT has failed on 3 occasions to pay out on any cash back I have been offered via Quidco, They are fickle when it comes to cash back. I have had to hound them for amazon gift cards which eventually arrived but took nearly 4 months to sort out. Several issues with broadband speed in which I had to escalate the complaint and I had a complains manager assigned who understood my issues and did his best to resolve but in the end had to admit the BT could not provide the service they had promised. Outcome I am still with BT and have to accept regular Broadband dropouts. BT cant do anything and I cant be bothered to go through rigmarole of changing. Its all hassle in my opinion.

I found my BT connection was pretty good and the service was OK when I needed it. I had to fight for my Quidco when I got one of these Mastercard deals a few months back though.

Just leaving now as they hiked the prices part way through my contract which is a good excuse to leave and get another introductory offer.

If you want an alternative from BT then Origin are currently offering £200 Amazon voucher on a 12 month contract at £31 a month for Fibre and line rental. £60 up front so averages at £19.33 a month if you change again at the end.

Three months later & I'm still waiting for them to refund the £270 i paid upfront for line rental/ installation. I have had a horrendous time with BT, decided I wanted to move internet from sky to BT, placed an order, which was cancelled by BT because they could not progress the order, due to their system not syncing with open reach, had to order again, that order was then cancelled, this process happened 8 times, 12 hours of phone calls later, and after being hung up on by an abroad call centre operator having gotten half way through the issue and I decided to call it a day, I was tempted by the £150 reward but then told the amount would drop due to the new orders being outside of the £150 promotion, even though my initial order was in time. I was going to take the last offer (29/m, 60 activation, 150 card and 110 cashback) and rang Virgin to cancel and they said they couldn't offer me anything better than I currently have because I'm still on a retention deal (12m contract, 18 month deal). Anyway it was all last minute so I didn't end up going for the bt deal, still have 3 months of my retention deal so thought I'd keep my eyes open, but this time I'm going for it.

But, if I go for it, and Virgin do offer me a comparable deal (who I'm happy to stay with), could I get a refund from BT for upfront fees?

Already have openreach installed in my house (used to be on plusnet), so they wouldn't need to install anything, but they would need to reactivate my line (which cost me £30 to cease switching to Virgin...)

Any advice would be great! Thank you!

Pretty much. there are some caveats though. You can't say use it on betting sites, and there are various other hoops you have to jump through. I think I had to register for it within 30 days of applying for the deal, then activate it within another 60 days. Then the funds are present on the card for one year only. One shop I tried to spend it in ended up refusing it due to their machine not liking it. It all worked out okay but to be honest I had to put in a few hours phoning here and there and here and reading bits and bobs. I'd definitely sign up for one again but it's not like them giving you the cash. I would imagine a fair percentage of people don't end up getting the reward due to not fully understanding the terms and conditions and I think that's what they're relying on!

How to deal with complaints - Method1
When you don't want to speak to angry customers, keep em on hold for 30 mins then cut off the phone. That should discourage most complainers, from complaining.

How to deal with complaints - Method2
Customer phones in saying that the service sucks.
BT replies by saying, "erm, wait 10 days before making a complaint".
No doubt, if you call them back, they'll ask you to wait another 10 days or put you on hold for 30 mins, then cut you off (see Method1, above).

BT have truly outdone themselves here and taken complaint handling to another level.

This is very true. A percentage of any ISP's customers are going to be disappointed. People are much more likely to post if they had a bad experience. I have had no problems personally and the service has worked great for a couple of years. Got the prepaid card, got £90 cashback using Quidco and get to see the footy free of charge. What is the best option for existing customers who are getting a terrible deal now past the contract.

Tempting, but I've had horrible issues with BT, the Openreach engineer never closed the install job on their system, so after 14days I was cut off as as far as BT were concerned I was never a customer, Had all the equipment but no account, help desk were pretty much useless to one point adding a password to the account which we never requested, when we got the letter informing us what the password was it was a BT phone number -_-. To give them credit, when I contacted their customer service director I was put through to executive level complaints and had 1 person deal with my issue only, all in all I was without internet for 30 days, not risking them again.

Don't do it to yourselves. Worst company I've ever dealt with. Utterly non-existent customer service, almost surreal levels of ineptitude. I lost count of the hours on end LITERALLY I spent trying to get them to do the most basic tasks, and got zero in return for my trouble. I would rather have laparoscopic surgery performed by a drunk marmoset armed with a Black & Decker drill than ever go near BT again.

BT are without doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with. From day one they never provided the service I signed up to and bungled from one mistake to another culminating in being asked for my card details by one of their customer service people in India over the phone, to pay a bill I had already paid on line 10 days before. Dont bother currently on 3rd router as their wifi isnt "guaranteed"...ie router works fine for 4-5 weeks then decides randomly one day not to connect to any device. Yes thats why I changed to BT to connect my iphone to my router with a wire. Its 2017 people.

BT own PlusNet, but it operates as separate company. I moved from BT to PlusNet, and the difference is night and day. Well, I say that, but PlusNet forgot to send out my router. Then forgot to send out my TV box. But that's another story... :smirk:

Also charged £11.50 for an hour long call to BT customer service on their freephone number ... when their abroad call centre transferred us to UK call centre to deal with a difficult question... except they transferred us to a premium rate extension. Took 3 hours of phone calls to admit thats what theyd done. All they did was credit my account with the £11.50.
PKRichie to becky48516
14 Mar 17 4 #97
You do know that is impossible, any number you call, regardless of what ISP you use can't transfer you to a premium rate number, you pay the cost of the initial call which you said is freephone, where you get transferred after makes no difference as you rang a freephone number.
After 3hrs they probably just gave you the money to get rid of you

As someone who works for BT, i wouldn't even use their services and we get Infinity 2 (if available) free, just having to pay line rental. With all "BT Wholesale" broadband, if you have issues, you want agents who are able to deal with the issues. BT have very specific "scripted" fault diagnostic systems, which the agents aren't allowed to deviate from, regardless if you know how to repair the issue otherwise, leaving you with weeks of frustration until you are either offered a case handler or complain for one.

I can never again recommend BT - how many price rises in how many months? I told them to stuff it (as per ofcom regs) also complained then moved back to Talk talk who now provide fixed price contracts for the term. If you take the BT offer, just factor a price rise every 6 months. I am truly fed up with so many industries offering term contracts but have free reign to increase prices when they want.

I think I understand the question.
You don't need a MasterCard or Visa or even a Debit card for BT to credit the funds to. There's no credit scoring.
You are sent a Prepaid MasterCard in your name. Just like a loaded Gift card for Next or Nando's.
You can then spend it anywhere that accepts MasterCard. I think that even includes paying your phone bill with it.
Hope that helps.

This is interesting as I have BT broadband which I called in to cancel 5 days ago due to the price rice, and I had signed up with another provider. Today BT called to offer me this deal plus BT Sport HD (basically my current package) for about £30 for the first 3 months and £35 thereafter, which is £20 less than they were charging me before.

No setup fees or pre-paid card though, but I'll probably stay with them, the service has been 7.5 out of 10, but my previous SKY broadband was a solid 9 out of 10

A visit from their technician and weeks of logging calls and they tell me the speed is capped because of the number of subscribers in the area and that if the restriction is lifted, my router will keep dropping connection.... So I asked them lit because they cannot fulfill the contract terms in terms of the minimum guaranteed speed...and they tell me:"sure, you can do it...just bear in mind that you'll have the same problem with any other provider, because it's OpenReach's fault"...

Very good deal if TC/Quidco remains £100+. TC is £100 atm and it expires sometime tomorrow (probably 23:59pm): https://www.topcashback.co.uk/bt-total-broadband/

Also, BT seem to be the best for raising prices mid-contract, which is great for the average HUKD user. Assuming cashback is £100 and BT raise prices in 6 months, you will at this point have spent £60 + £29*6 = £234. So if you leave then, you will have been paid £66 to receive 6 months of reasonably good broadband. If prices don't rise and you stay the whole year, it would be an equivalent of £9 a month, which beats any current ADSL deal AFAIK.

I personally found BT customer service to be slightly better than average, but at this price I would happily put up with long hold times and the like.

So the dirty deed is done .. even though I hate BT's foreign call centres and swore never to return. Turns out my fibre speed test is now 57Mb/s - used to be over 70Mb - so no point staying with 80/20 on Plusnet and effectively paying twice the price over BT Infinity 1 with discount. That's half the price even though I'm going to pay hefty early termination charges with Plusnet(they've also begun servicing left-wing pressure groups who don't like freedom of the press - so they can get stuffed on that basis as well - yes I know they're part of the same group, doesn't mean they want to lose customers).

I got the BT deal in November (£141 TCB and £125 gift card) and I have to say it was smooth installation and reliable service. TCB didn't track but a claim was approved very quickly.

Top tips:

- Do not call BT during the order process as that may invalidate cashback
- If you need a phone line installing (normally up to £130 install) then these deals can provide a cheap way of getting an OpenReach line - which you can then move to someone else when BT jack their prices up.
- do not pay for line rental saver - at the moment BT and all other ISPs are playing the game of raising prices twice within 12 months, typically by 5% a time. You save ~10% by paying for line rental up front, but that locks you in if they implement a price rise as you cannot move without losing all remaining prepaid line rental saver. If you have not prepaid, if they raise your price within minimum contract you are free to break contract.
- diarise to claim the gift card at exactly the right time, BT won't remind you.
- any leftover spend on the gift card, you can "top up" your balance at Amazon by the exact amount so your card is left with 0.00 balance. Any money you do not spend on the gift card belongs to BT!

Not quite a retentions deal, but was halfway through a 12 month contract and had an online offer for 18 months (still on Infinity 1) including line rental for £31.50. Went on the chat and got my BT sport deal extended for 12 months (£4 for BT sport and £5 for HD) and got first 3 months free for BT sport HD. Happy with the price as I avoid the price increase and even save some money, plus don't need to haggle for 18 months. If they put the price up later I will negotiate a new deal then or leave.

BT Infinity seems way more stable than Sky and other's FTTC products.

Word of warning with Quidco - they've started hiding the mastercard options if you click through.(generally only on BT Mobile, rather than broadband, but just check!)

Do BT allow you to use your own Router/Modem?
morocco1 to TheBiker
15 Mar 17 #212
Yes, and I would recommend it, because the firmware on the "Smart" Hub they provide is absolutely terrible and will cause you issues that BT's "tech support" cannot / will not help with, if you are trying to use Android mobile devices.
shindyroo to TheBiker
15 Mar 17 #243
Yes but you will need a separate Openreach Modem or a Router with a built in VDSL modem. The Openreach Modem you may be able to request from BT or you can them quite cheaply off eBay.

I used to use an Openreach Modem with an Asus RT-AC66U - much better than the awful Home Hub they supplied.

Hot. Just ordered as it has come at the right time due to my current TalkTalk deal expiring.

The front page has the offer of £200 prepay card, but there is no mention of it in my order summary or any of the 10 or so emails that BT has sent me since signing up an hour ago. Anyone know how to go about claiming the card?

I see there is a lot of commentary here about how bad BT is. I have been with BT, Talk Talk, Sky and Vigin over the years and have concluded they are all as bad as each other. I just switch every year to get the best deal.

indeed. switch every year to get the best deal and you will get topcashback/quidco with this deal too. The T&C's only state what they do for using discount voucher codes.... MY TCB tracked no problem when I joined BT last year.

I have had fairly good CS from BT - : house move and new phone line installed for free (were going to charge me £130 for the install until I raised a complaint) and no new contract to sign up for the phone line bit which they insisted that it would start a new phone line contract for 12 months if they install a new line.

Will hunt around for new deals come August time but it seems most ISPs these days have 18 month contracts not 12 :disappointed:

15 Mar 17 #217
Did that before I even connected anything to it - I use a Samsung S7 and Google Nexus 10 tablet and both were crippled on wireless connection, I was unable to sign in to most app services, there were issues with images and videos on social media refusing to load, Gmail syncing wouldn't work, and I couldn't even refresh the HUKD app! All services worked fine on 4G, other wireless networks, and once I replaced the Smart Hub with a Netgear D7000, so the only conclusion is that the Smart Hub was the problem. I wasn't the only one with that problem either as the Support Forum was full of similar complaints, with no solution other than replacing the hub. For their part, BT said this issue was down to "3rd party devices and apps" and refused to acknowledge an issue or that there were numerous other reports of the same problem. Anyone got too much hair and want to buy a Smart Hub? I've got two...

EX BT Customer. I now only have BT Sports and that is bad enough. The sales department are friendly and easy to contact. However, once on the books, it goes downhill. Just want to echo the positive experience with BT. Better router and wifi than the standard (not Q) Sky router. (N.B. Sky service, ignoring the router, was excellent). UK based sales and support were very helpful. No issues with Quidco cashback.

However, like others, the Indian support operatives were diabolically bad. To be fair to them, sometimes there was probably little they could do, however actively lying to your customers in order to try and placate them is not on.

I had a gentleman from their Indian call centres call me back, pretending to be the manager I'd requested a callback from. He went VERY quiet once I called him out on it. To say they are useless liars is paying them a compliment. My experience with their customer support is that their strategy is very much "war of attrition"; they'll keep telling you the same thing and refusing / being unable to do anything to help until you just give up and either live with the problem, or pay to get out of your contract.

hukdplan to DevilsNeverCry
15 Mar 17 #241
You can cancel and then place an order again - just like placing an order for the first time. The only problem(happened to me and other people in the past) is that if you cancel and then try to reorder straight away(ie in minutes or hours) although the staff say you should be able to do this, what happens is everything seems normal - you get your first e-mail saying you're being processed, then it goes dead, you don't get the other e-mails that normally arrive in minutes.

When you eventually contact CS about this you'll find your order is "stuck" and needs to be deleted and placed again. So unless things have changed(?), cancel then wait 24+ hours for BT's order system to adjust before re-ordering(if you find the right staff member who knows the issue you can get them to clear the system - but it's typically a nightmare trying to get this done in my experience).
Drake22
15 Mar 17 #230
Problem is if you want Infinity 2, you can't go for starter tv package, as it limits the bandwidth to 52mbps even with infinity 2. (you also have to pay £40 extra activation compared to the low activation price of Infinity 2 for the starter pack). Funnily enough, you can go for broadband only infinity2, and then add the starter pack for free, retaining your 76 Mbps, but then cashback sites won't track the broadband + tv deal.

If you are going for Infinity 2, best value would be either broadband only, which comes down to £20.8 pcm after cashback and g/c, or go for entertainment plus TV package, which turns out to be £26.3 pcm

been with bt for coming up to a year, yes their customer experience can be shoddy when dealing with the call centre in India so I tend to write an email to the CEO and before you know it, the executive team are assisting from the UK. I had an issue with poor wi fi and was informed BT are not responsible for the quality of WiFi in the home due to factors such as thick walls/interference outside of their control. So I sent the email, had already changed my router settings, opened a complaint and would not let them close it until I received their later smart hub. Prior to this they wanted me to sign up to an 18 month contract to qualify for the router. A little perseverance paid off, they posted me the new hub after 2 weeks and its so much better than the Hub5...

It is vital for the current telephone number to be transferred over. Currently my parents are with plusnet and out of contract. Is this automatically done or does it have to be specified somewhere during the order process?

Are those getting TCB doing so via going direct to the BT website where the offer is £29.99 with the £200 mastercard and without the £50 cashback?

INCORRECT. Ofcom must record ALL complaints against its licence holders as per under the Communications Act - they usually send it off for you too, Sharon the new Chief has overturned the old Chief Exec's policy of non compliance with the legislation which distorted the monitoring process by only recording complaints took by consumers to one of the authorised Alternative Dispute Regulation companies.

Call Ofcom register complaint, get Ofcom reference number (they will usually send it off to the telco), if no contact start the telcos Complaints Code of Conduct with your telco quoting the Ofcom ref no they will already have in their system, they know its recorded and they usually act:

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/information-for-industry/telecoms-competition-regulation/general-authorisation-regime/customer-code-practice

If people want to use the old draconian system and not record a complaint against their telco they are still free to do so. If Ofcom find your complaint valid and record it then ADR have to take that into account other than just the telco 'paying them' for the ADR, a ADR when Ofcom have recorded or recorded and sent a complaint to the telco on your behalf as part of a ADR complaint will be much more progressive - Ofcom will not record/take malicious complaints against a telco where it feels the consumer is to blame. Also when Ofcom send a complaint/lodge a reference number you find that the 8 week deadlock period/letter is easier to get out of the telco by contacting Ofcom stating they are refusing to issue - a Ofcom requirement, you can proceed to ADR quicker.

It depends if the Hub you have has Modem Mode, if it doesn't then all the routing will still be done by the Hub and your Router will effectively be an Access Point.

If there is an option for Modem Mode the Hub will act as a modem and all routing will go through your separate router.

The BT home hub doesn't have Modem mode which is why I got a separate Openreach Modem.

The Home hub is fine for signal but its actual routing capability, particularly for online gaming is absolutely dire...

I hope this makes sense?

I see everyone is milking more money from people charging these silly installation fees now.

If you are coming from another fftc product I do not see why there should be installation fee this basiclly is making you pay for the router just like mobile phone operaters making people pay full cost of a new phone so really they are giving you nothing for free this is what ofcom should be stopping things like this.

Red hot deal, great price.

I signed up last July for the Infinity 1 with Total Entertainment TV package. That worked out at £42 per month but I also received a £100 gift card and £150 cashback from Quidco. The transfer (from PlusNet) went smoothly for me but my father-in-law who signed up at the same time had horrific problems – BT inexplicably cancelled his order and then couldn't reinstate it for over three weeks. He was without phone, Internet or a TV package for all of that time (he had transferred from Sky).

It's a case of buyer beware with any company, but I find BT to be maddening when something goes wrong. I cannot fault the actual connection – I consistently get around 62 MB per second which is the fastest I can get in my area. The BT TV offering with YouView box is also pretty good and a decent alternative to Sky. When you have a problem though, their customer service is atrocious. I had a few issues recently with my Home Hub failing and they were completely incompetent at resolving the issue. They even claimed to have sent me a new one which was a complete lie. Be warned – other than the order cancellation department, their call centres are all based in India and while there are obviously some good operatives, many are simply reading from a script and struggle to solve your problem.

TL;DR: BT's Internet and TV service is solid and this is a great price. However, when things go wrong they can be woefully bad at fixing your problem.

Nope, I get the £28.99 offer with £200 mastercard when I go through Quidco. It's the 2nd deal down the page.
The one at the top for £29.99 is no good anyway as it only 25GB per month. The 2nd one down is Unlimited Infinity 1 at £28.99.

15 Mar 17 #311
They may well now answer 90% of the calls in the UK but they are very rarely able to resolve your problem. In my experience over the last two weeks, my call has had to be transferred to India every time to close the support issue.

I also had an issue where the BT Sport Ultra HD 4K channel wouldn't work on anything other than their Home Hub. I originally had a generic OpenReach modem left over from PlusNet hooked up to my own router and everything worked other than that one channel. The installer seemed to think there might be something happening at the hardware level restricting access to anything other than BT's own equipment. Don't know if anybody else has had this problem, but it's put me off buying another alternative router.

Thanks for the help, tried through Quidco and it shows as £28.99 (same as when clicking Get Deal on this site).

As people have said, it seems worth it to get the TV (free monthly package) for £10 activation, in order to get an increased Quidco payout. (obviously assuming it all tracks correctly).

Yep, I'm betting 'ATTRITION' is their motto, printed in big letters on their wall!

I've just called up regarding my Infinity 1 broadband. It's technically 'faulty' as the connection speed is maxing out at 40Mbps (actual 38Mbps in speedtests) and BT rating / promise for my line is above this. When I say faulty - that's actually BT's view (so, yay, positive) - not mine - but want to get this tested / sorted - so I can also hopefully get my profile then adjusted to lower my ping a touch (again, not bad, but feel this can be massaged down, as Sky did, with a gaming profile, that maybe drops max bandwidth a touch). This will likely require an (free) engineer visit - which I'm fine with - but a touch worried about the fact that BT have a bit of a history for trying to charge these (a bit of a negative with BT) - so making sure I've gone through all the testing steps I can.

Anyway, gone through all the testing steps on the phone. Rather than then booking an engineer, at this stage BT will 'monitor' for 48 hours, then give a callback. I do understand that they're probably doing this in the hope that the issue 'naturally' resolves itself, although their tests from my call two months ago should show no change (I've been busy / lax and left this a little while). But, well, got to follow steps rigidly!

Since I've never received any promised callback from BT, so this will be a first! ;-)

Vodafone and TalkTalk are also knows as the other god awful ISPs. Try PlusNet they seem okay enough for the price you pay for it (cheaper than BT as well, even they are actually owned by BT). The other ISP that is really good if you are a technically savvy user (although a little pricier, but completely **** free are Andrews & Arnold)

I've never had a problem with BT and I'm not convinced they are as bad as some people seem to think. Most of the people I work with are with BT and happy with the service. Those with Virgin seem to have far more complaints. I can easily believe that BT struggles to cope with anything unusual, new/cutting-edge or non-standard, but I suspect that's going to be the case with most ISPs, and especially the large ones.

I think the Topcashback for the £120 is a safer option.

In the quidco T&Cs it says "Cashback users are not eligible for rewards, vouchers or other incentives offered on the retailer site"

Topcashback T&Cs say "BT Reward card is not affiliated with TopCashback and therefore does not affect cashback eligibility" and the cash back clearly mentions the £200 gift card as well.

Quidco will have done many thousands of BT Reward Card broadband transactions - shouldn't there be at least a few stories of customers who didn't get their reward card? Either they are enforcing the T&Cs or they're not.

And if they decide to enforce them it will kill their reputation and business - and give it all to TopCashback.

I had BT up until recently and I certainly can't complain. I was getting very fast speeds and no slowdowns which you can sometimes get during peak times. Very impressed. The only reason I moved away was due to them increasing the price. I am now with Virgin Media for TV, Broadband, Phone and Line Rental for £15/month all in and the services so far have been excellent. When the contract ends and goes up to full price I will probably move back to BT if a similar reward offer is available.

In my experience, BT are very helpful before you sign the contract but can not be completely trusted to pay the incentive once they have signed you up.

My advice would be ensure you add a reminder to chase up the reward to your calendar, in case the mastercard never arrives.

My experience of BT customer service is that it is significantly worse than Sky and probably worse than Talk Talk: factor this in.

It certainly annoyed me that the line rental price increase of £2.50 a month was announced just before they announced their exclusive rights to the Champions' League, paying £394m per season for the rights.

BT have 9.04m UK subscribers, so charging each of them £2.50 a month extra equates to £22.6m increase in revenue per month. This is £271m per year, and you can factor in another line rental price rise of ~£2 in 6 months, which will total ~£394m of increased revenue - and this is without the subscriber fees for BT Sport, which will also probably increase at some point this year. Not hard to see where your money is going, because it certainly isn't being reinvested into the service you're actually paying for.

BT COMPLAINTS UPDATE

BT complaint logged yesterday with Ofcom, a nice woman at BT Chief Executive office calls today & assures myself leaving with the 30 days notice of April 2nd price charges will cost nothing (India continued to dispute) and any billing error on billing date should be brought to her attention by calling her direct number as the final bill may have charges not shown and only the credits given are showing, she has noted the 30 days notice and have until 14 April to transfer out.

As I said, ALL telco complaints for monitoring reasons should NOW go through Ofcom who send it on and not through the old mandatory Complaints Code Of Conduct/8 weeks Alternative Dispute Resolution.

(Will cross post on Sky £64 deal)

Handy info for all the new BT customers in this thread who after dealing with India agents or India complaints call centre once & get no help can go straight to Ofcom then have the CEO complaints dept ACTUALLY help you!

Vodafones routers have a problem when dealing with a lot of devices/increased strain where the 2.4GHz chip burns out and the software prevents it from working properly as a safety measure. Had 6 routers because of it and was eventually allowed to leave. Service was great but just not under high demand.

If you want Infinity2, you cannot go for Starter TV for bigger cashback, as they would restrict infinity2 bandwidth to 52 Mbps (You also have to pay £40 extra activation). Funnily enough, you can go for Infinity2 only, and then add starter TV for free, but then extra cashback would not track.

So if you are after Infinity2 for 80/20, best deal is just to go for broadband only and through TCB, which comes down to £20 pcm, or the Entertainment Plus if you are after the TV, which has £30 extra cashback, so in total £26 pcm.

Call the bank and raise a dispute about the £600.

Call Ofcom and raise a complaint against BT.

Understand they are all as bad as each other in sorting issues out, they just want your cash, if you cant handle this don't sign contracts.

If your self service consumer care (and knowledge of it) is as bad as a telco customer care then you are half to blame for not being able to resolve the situation and are banking on other with a bias from the company to do such

As a flip on this comment.

Used to be with virgin and their broadband was second to none. Upto 100mbs and I used to average about 95 connected.

Moved to sky and nothing but hassle. In the last three days alone it has been down for over 7 hours - always at peak periods. I've had an engineer out and no fix for the crappy speeds. When you call, although pleasant, it's always your fault - like I built the house and/or phone line. I took a TV package which failed to record probably 30% of the shows and we never managed to get all channels promised probably 15% short. Good luck calling sky to cancel - had to go through online chat. I wouldn't recommend them whatsoever.

I switched as I moved and virgin wasn't available where I moved to. I am considering moving again because my only choices are BT and sky and expecting both to be terrible.

Everyone will have their own horror story for a provider. For me - sky have been the worst - virgin the best - BT (years ago) were ok.

This router beams out a public passcode so that people passing by you house can get online. It is not your personal wifi network but it uses you wifi bandwidth and your electricity. BT charge them via a temp account. Try logging on to your router without a password on wifi. This also blasts wifi out at a street level, 2 or 3 people on the street with similar BT routers and you run out of wifi channels quickly, the result, EVERYONE gets slow wifi... turn it off on the wifi BIOS or don't touch these routers/BT. No get your partner or friend to sign up in their name, they can also transfer the landline number across if you want to keep it, or BT will charge you £31 final cease fee & and then a new order will take weeks to activate with possible connection charge.

Actually, it's not exactly 'High Level Complaints' - it's just another call centre team dressed up to look a bit different. So many people have now latched on to the fact that the only way to get any sense out of BT is to complain to the CEO that all these complaints are just routed to this team. They're usually helpful, but they only provide the sort of service you should expect as standard - without having to go through the CEO.

I've been advised by Virgin Retentions that BT don't provide a fibre cable from the main switch to the house, only copper ,so the speed will be not be as promised (30% less than advertised)...Is this true?

Virgin haven't really been playing ball and they won't budge.

Also, has anyone successfully managed to get CB from TCB for this too?
seaniboy to Triggahappy21

what BT or others can offer at your house, check here: https://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

and tell Virgin for a xxx% cut in costs 30% speed reduction is worth it - Virgin are most probable playing you.

Quidco has £160 with a further one off £10 fee of a BT Mini YouView box which costs £0 a month with some FREE extra channels, on the Infinity 1 £28.99 deal.

That's hilarious
Did Virgin also tell you that they also don't provide fibre to your home ? guess what, it's also copper from the cabinet, every street is different so you might have an openreach cabinet closer to your home that Virgin Media do or vise versa.
BT Speed quotes are usually within 1 or 2 mbps of the estimate according to their website, there's also a minimum guaranteed speed from BT, if it falls below and they can't give you the min guaranteed, you can walk away without charge.

Well she said she was calling from CEO Office, defo a Londoner? but with posh'er than normal English twang and yes they do provide care unlike most BT onshore & offshore call centres. Regardless, it is better to go via Ofcom as it monitors by recording complaints (and fines for failures) and it is always helpful at ADR to state Ofcom logged the complaint, even sent it and THEY (telco) refused to deal with it or sort it out to a acceptable level - it is poor show not to deal with Ofcom complaints as Ofcom authorise the very ADR companies you will be using having to go that route.

15 Mar 17 #453
Incorrect, a notice of charge changes has to be a minimum of 30 days notice, it can be in advance of thirty days, but you legally can only leave within 30 days before the change of charges date or they let you leave earlier as per the notice in Jan/Feb.
BT have deliberately done this to confuse people (they may forget months down the line to give notice 30 days upto April 2nd), BT gave loads of notice but actually the 30 day period can be notification or the 30 days before April the 2nd unless explicit in the notice.

BT would not let others leave before the 30 day lead up to April 2nd - I know I handle a few lines for people and today they took the 30 days notice valid until 14th April but would not accept it in Jan/Feb when the email came.

Its designed to confuse, even staff are perplexed by it. BT left themselves wide open to both 30 days notice trying to be smart assed people would forget by early March to put in the 30 days, or 30 days from notification. Notification date in Jan/Feb or first week of March are both acceptable 30 day periods.

It is best to follow the complaints links though, nowhere does that page say it is a official complaints page just a 'contact us' page - which does not adhere to Ofcom regulation on Complaints Code of Conduct - on or two CLEAR clicks from a telcos homepage or contact us or complaints page. BT fail on EVERY count below hiding it and not making clear of it when navigated to the 'contact us' page you linked.

A CP must have complaints handling procedures that: 1) Are transparent

2) Are accessible: a) The Customer Complaints Code must be well publicised and readily available, including: i) being easily accessible on a webpage, with either:
1. a weblink to the Customer Complaints Code being clearly visible on a CP’s primary webpage for existing customers (i.e. ‘1 click’ access); or 2. a weblink to the Customer Complaints Code being clearly visible on a ‘how to complain’ or ‘contact us’ page, which is directly accessible from a primary webpage for existing customers (i.e. ‘2 click’ access).

Of course if you keep delaying activation date AND BT can do Fibre at the new place: http://www.samknows.com

You may face non BT fibre and just ADSL2+ BT broadband or the cost of the whole contract if you leave early though by not accepting the new speeds available at the new address, there maybe a address transfer fee, or they will start a new 12 month contract with no termination fees on the old address at new place based on the offers available then at that time, which may be worse or better than now (cant see better, defo could be worse)
PKRichie to bluecityste
15 Mar 17 #470
Yes it is, so long as fibre is available at your new home and a new line is not required, you can place a home move order and the discount and contract duration remains the same, it will recontract the line rental for 12 months but nothing else, home moves are also free.

I'm not going to keep going back and forth but you're incorrect, you have 30 days from being notified of the price rise to get in touch to leave or cancel, if you choose to cancel they'll put the 30 days notice in to end the service without penalty.
If you choose to change provider, you will have 30 days from that point of contact to leave, if you leave after then, the termination charges apply.

Incorrect they must give you a minimum 30 days notice of date of charge changes, you enter the 30 day period at the charges change date - 30 days before or the 30 days from notification, both are 30 day periods, one more detriment to consumer than the other. I have cancelled Sky & BT this year both PENALTY FREE - 30 days before or during 30 days (in my case) leading up to the the change of charges actual date, not the notification 30 days given months before the actual charges increase date. Holding off on both until the 30 day period BEFORE the date of charges change I have managed to move both lines penalty free to Sky £64 deal as no offers of great substance were about.

I also having got no notice from Sky UNTIL after my 30 day period was entered but had given the notice before the 30 days period from info on here & I finding the T&C changes on Sky.com. I have served notice on both counts, 30 days before 'personal' notification, after and any period 30 days before and during the 1st & 2nd of April dates with both Sky & BT.

ALL have no charges, Sky refund of £75 as was in credit, BT no charges moving another line to Sky £64, the Sky ceased line was also reactivated with 30 days on Sky £64.

Upto 30 days from 'notification' date, or the actual detrimental date - the date charges rise, obviously to stay inline with 30 day notice termination is a big job with large number of millions of customers so the notifications have now started rolling out months in advance which means 30 days terms not one 30 day term - 30 day notification or actual 30 detrimental date, either works.

The Ofcom rule of included line rental, it does not work out cost effective with cheaper inclusive bundled LR (watch that change when costs start going up) for providers to offer it, as it would be near Openreach Wholesale prices and providers don't want consumers to know how little it is with most charging over 100% more than BT Openreach Wholesale rate.

I recently with the BT Voice only customers £5 reduction consultation ripped Ofcom a new bottom by using the term "line rental" GPO terminology after BT went private and to date, LR does not exist since Otelo and its replacement Ofcom stopped the BT monopoly - A BT OPENREACH WHOLESALE CONNECTION fee exists and is regulated by them. I said consumers are being dupped by providers and Ofcom as LINE RENTAL has not existed since BT went private and opened to competition on the old GPO/BT network & affordable access to a line should be providers making no profit on Wholesale pricing on BTOR access fees and the Universal obligation of BT Basic is then industry wide for all providers, people choose who they want line, calls & broadband with separate or all bundled and increase competition on the market, people also pay for what they use and select.

Consultation still open, for a Communications Regulator is quite poor in laymans English and like all "Ofcom consultations are designed for industry focused with no balance on consumers terminology and again they should stop that practice and be balanced to the end user- the consumer" I put that in the consultation too.

Yes you can, the 30 days of detriment for some Sky customers were Line Rental & Broadband charge rising March 1st, for everyone on Sky there is another 30 day period upto the date of call charge changes on April 1st. Sky informed notice of both in advance (not for me) of the legal 30 days notification period - but the detriment (even if you accepted LR & broadband increases) period for both changes is different due to the charges chan ging on different days/months. The notification or detrimental both have 30 days to quit FREE.

They have to give a minimum 30 days notice, if they choose to do that in advance ahead the notice in legislation would be 30 days of notification to adhere to the date change of charges, but the detriment actually starts 30 days prior to the price change - the providers invalidate themselves by sending it earlier - creating a double edge sword, which just goes to show how weak all their IT systems are if they cannot email millions of customers in one 24 hour period.

Contract law dictates 30 days, Ofcom regulation dictates "at least one month notice of any changes in their contract that are likely to be of material detriment to them, including increases in the price you agreed.
If the agreed price increases to your 'material detriment', you are, therefore, allowed to cancel that contract without penalty. Remember, this applies even if you are still within your 'minimum contract period"

So contract legislation states 30 days minimum notice, as does Ofcom for its own industry regs - so if they notify you you have 30 days from notice Contract law applies to changes of T&C, if they notify you as per Ofcom 30days minimum the 'financial detriment' ACTUALLY starts 30 days upto the date of charges changing regardless if the notification is earlier or enforce the 'early notification' under contract law, Ofcom regulations for ONCE! actually are tighter than legislation. It's fabbo

Never had a issue (well BT in Feb but was happy enough to not fight it until a stonking deal came up, not that BT ACTUALLY ever sent the account holder ANY notification/s in any format) 30 days from notification or 30 days into 'financial detriment' zone :wink:

I cannot get fibre and don't know if I get normal broadband will the free weekend calls be included as me having broadband and calls package, I ask because the cashback differs between tcb and Quidco.

Any helpful input would be much appreciated.

Go Sky £64 for the year and add the £8 Anytime Extra calls bundle, circa £13 a month Broadband & Calls - unlimited calls - including UK mobiles. AND: £60 Quidco and enter the promo code Sky email you. I don't think the BT Broadband deal is anywhere quite as good as the Fibre deal.

Edit: not too bad - £150 Reward with £24.99 a month, whats TCB/Q like for Broadband & calls ?

Considering you are not changing order/services but reducing risk of non payment/debt I would fully expect so.

Go via quidco, scroll down to the correct Infinity1 £28.99 UNLIMITED deal and proceed, you can add the BT TV Mini YouView box and extra free channels broadband for £0 a month & also tick FREE AMC channel box too!

You I think are using the Infinity 1 £29.99/25GB deal at the top of the page quidco opens. EDIT I am using the Quidco app and its browser on a iPhone and both options allow Starter TV/Mini YV box to be added at £10 activation and £0 a month. Have you a iPhone you can use ? Maybe your computer browser ??

Did any existing BT customer manage to sign up?

Cheers for the reply seaniboy. Sorry I should have made it clearer...if you tick the option for the Starter TV package the option to select free evening and weekend calls on the next page disappears. You can only have free weekend calls or anytime calls.

Do the order and when activated call to add, strange as I tried that on Quidco apps browser and was fine. Adding a call bundle service after activation wont invalidate Quidco

went for bt 52mb unlimited package 1, starter tv, calls

£69.99 upfront
£28.99 a month

£200 mastercard
£160 cashback

BT webchat give me a link that if sky charge any termination charge they will refund upto £300! (though its up in 3 weeks anyhow just)

Above works out with all the discounts £57.87 for the year (£4.82 a month !!)

Confirmed that you can pay the £205.98 line rental upfront as well to save more. (around 10 percent)

So it should be about £4 a month roughly taking into account with the line saver.

@seniboy

From your replies above, I take it that a Sky broadband + Talk customer can still cancel their contract within the minimum 12 month term without penalty because we're still within 30 days of the commencement date of the detrimental price change? ie. the 1st March £1.59 line rental increase.

I got my notification email on 6th Feb, which certainly doesn't give 30 days' prior notice to the date of the price change.

Sure can! Go cancel with 30 days notice of the April 1st call charge changes PENALTY FREE  Give the 30 days notice, then go to Quidco ---> BT BROADBAND & click through, £160 cashback: select £28.99 Infinity 1 add Starter TV £0 a month (one off £10 activation fee) for a BT TV Mini YouView box, complete order = Infinity Fibre & £360 incoming, jobs a good 'ane!

seaniboy, you misunderstood my question, I don't want any calls from bt, but was wondering if the free weekend calls bt give with broadband can be classed as me talking out a broadband and calls package when considering cashback amounts.

Regards the sky deal I've done the sums and bt work out a bit more, but I don't want to Pay the £20 line transfer fee sky want to charge for moving my line from talk talk to sky.

They don't charge this £20 if you move a bt line to sky, which I find bizarre, as they don't have to actually physically do anything.

This way I can move to sky next from bt and avoid this nonsensical £20 transfer fee.

damn forgot to add unlimited calls this time around :-( do i need to cancel the order again or can i simply add the unlimited calls through online/calling.

will this affect the quidco cashbakc or £200 voucher.

I am a BT customer, would I be able to transfer the phone and BB to another account if I sign up as new customer? Are there any connection and cancellation charges if I do that?
seaniboy
15 Mar 17 1 #523
Yup it is classed as calls package because it is inclusive. Quidco do not state at the bottom of the page T&C otherwise either way so it is safe to assume no restriction because it would have to state it was excluded/included - it is the £10 activation for a Mini YouView £0 a month TV that bumps up Quidco from £100 to £160, (Infinity & TV are £130) http://www.quidco.com/bt-broadband/

Sky do now charge £20 for the takeover of a BT line, well they did on my £64 order to transfer (will dispute when line/number transfers)

Done. Just told Virgin I am leaving, 30 days from now that ends.. Placed order with BT via QuidCo (apparently its £100 cashback + £200 prepay card).. If it all tracks that should be about £9 a month on average.

Both exercises were painless, Virgins best offer to keep me was £36 a month... Sorry, but no.

Sometimes the retailer refuses to pay, if I had a large amount of cashback due and they refused I would write a email to the Chief Executive office asking why they refused it as I made a decision to give my custom based on it.

Thanks Seaniboy, you're a star.

So sky charged you £20 for transferring your Bt line to them.

Lying so and so's told me on the phone they would charge me because I'm with talktalk but wouldn't charge me I was moving from bt to sky.

Yes they did when when it states new line, and I'm transferring next week that line - after activation I will ask (demand politely) they refund it to my account as per their terms & conditions, "it was a free transfer no' a new £20 line, (heed th'a ba)"

I had an email today from the Martin Lewis web site saying Bt unlimited infinity 1 is £28.99 per month + £59.99 up front. It has the MasterCard £200 reward card and £50 cash back making it £13.16 per month. I phoned bt and cancelled the order I made yesterday so that I could get this one. All links are on martins website along with links to claim both the MasterCard and the cash back.
