Well, I had been looking at Google Home, after previously thinking..."Why do I want a talking assistant when I have my phone?" This was only a few months ago.
Then came along Prime........
...Then came the thought, should I get Echo? or maybe dip my toes in with 1 DOT for £35...£35 half a night out or a good takeaway (with all the trimmings)
...........then came along someone mentioning a Code on one of these posts.......yeah a code!....How those codes seduce me into feeling good about spending cash........a code for 3 DOT's.....but why would I need 3??
I tried to convince myself......Living Room.....Kitchen.....Bedroom......OK sounds good as saves walking to a particular room to try it out.
FAST FORWARD......less than 6 hours from Prime with the clock on a few mins to midnight I have got..
2x Black DOT's (blends in), 1x White Dot (for a window sill in kitchen..blends in (hopefully condensation won't wreck it)
Oh....but no.......I'm consummed, cos now I got the 3 Colour Philips Hue Starter kit coming..........Almost £200 spent!!!
Who am I to think a £35 toe dip would end well, when I'm surrounded by equally crazy folk on a shopping forum...
So now I need to hide it all from the Mrs.
Soon as she leaves the house it will be Alexa, Disco light time.......Just hope the neighbours don't tell the Mrs, evertime she leaves for work the music goes on..lights go red..and ya fella next door keeps shouting Alexa at top of his voice!!!
Right am off to bed, long nightshift and when I wake up the Amazon Pixies should be at my door......Addios all who read this far........ :o/

Echo = built in decent speaker.
Echo dot = small speaker, designed to connect to your own.
They bith org work exactly the same.
pill to YellowStar14
10 Jul 171#53
The Echo is tall cylinder with with more powerful speakers, and, in my opinion, decent rich sound. It works as Bluetooth and also connected with your WiFi, to give you Alexa, a voice assistant for the Internet. It does not have a auxiliary out connection.
The dot is a smaller unit that resembles a hockey puck (size of a small can of heinz beans. ) The speakers are slightly better than your mobile phone and quite usable. Would as Bluetooth speakers and WiFi, with all rge functions if the larger more expensive Echo.
However, the dot has an Aux out, so you can connect it to any other speaker by using a headphone type cable: thus making your expensive speakers that you may own into "smart" speakers.
I use a dot on an old Bose sound wave system and it works beautifully. Bose charge about £90 for a WiFi adapter, and this does the job better and cheaper. The only issue, for your information, is that the Bose at least, isn't woken up from sleep by the dot, so you have to physically turn it on each time - so you can't use it the superb alarm features of the Dot.
Hope this helps.

The echo is the speaker part. Well worth it, the speaker is amazing.
ghostm4n to YellowStar14
10 Jul 171#157
The Echo is basically the Dot on top of a very nice speaker. The dot has only a very basic little speaker, but is intended to be connected to an existing speaker system. You would NOT want to listen to anything playing just through the Dot itself. If you had say a Bose soundlink Mini II for example, you would likely buy just the dot and connect it to that, as opposed to buying another speaker in the form of the Echo. If you don't already have a decent speaker to connect it to, then I would strongly suggest you DONT buy a Dot, and get the Echo instead.
So Echo has all the smarts PLUS a good speaker
The Dot has all the smarts also, just with a crappy little speaker, but can be connected to an existing system.
The only real difference between the two that you are paying for is a decent sounding speaker in the form of the Echo.
Just my opinion.

Iv got the dot. The difference between the echo is it has a full power speaker built in to it. The dot only has a small speaker built in, think of like a phone speaker, which should really be paired up with a separate Bluetooth speaker. Overall, the functionality is just the same so depends if you want a stand alone speaker or one built in

I think it's going to happen. There's a few websites advertising the same. It's also worth noting that the Echo Show was released in the US on June 28th, so a UK release will be expected soon. Amazon are going to start wanting to push these out as much as they can, what with the competition from Google (Home) and the imminent release of Apple's own product.

10 Jul 172#54
yes and no
It can be powered by micro-USB, and it comes with a micro-USB mains adapter (like most mobile phone chargers).
But if you have a USB wall socket or a device nearby giving out USB power (TV, hifi etc) then plug it into that to save a mains socket.
suniil to gibblesuk
10 Jul 17#64
Any USB wall adapter, battery pack / power brick or car charger should do the trick. DOT accepts micro USB input. I personally use a 30,000mAh battery pack that lasts around a week or so.

Yes, but it's a USB cable so you can run it from a portable charger for garden use!
I don't think the bigger echo has an aux out or bluetooth out, so you are stuck playing through the built in speaker. Based on this the dot is more useful to most.

Note it is only bluetooth in one direction. Eg, you can play your phone through the echo, but you can't send the signal to you home hifi, AV amp or similar. Basically with the big echo, you must use the built in speaker, no other options.

Don't mean to sound elitist, but I actually kinda like it that way, adds value to the prime membership, makes it that bit more than just video/audio streaming and free delivery. Think Amazon do a really good job of marketing the benefits of prime, it feels so central to the experience now after having it a few years that I couldn't imagine using Amazon without it.
Also there are so many ways to get prime far cheaper than the £79 standard price if you shop smart e.g. frequently discounted to £59, student membership £39 and even for free if you are willing to use a different email each month, that I really don't see what anyone has to complain about....

Tempted to try out these speaker assistants.
Looking into them, I prob would prefer google as it uses google search engine rather than Bing.
However, how good is the dot speaker?
I would prefer to have whichever device (Google, Echo, Dot) to be on all the time, rather than having to switch them on, as that breaks up the spur of the moment flow to asking a quick question. If I'm to do that I can just get my phone out.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6. Would the speaker in the Dot be similar sound to a phone?
Was thinking if the Dot is low power, to get one for the kitchen, as it's small and could sit on a window sill.
I already have a JBL 3 Bluetooth speaker, so not in need for a fully blown speaker. However would get the Echo, if the Dot sound is really poor.
Like I said, would prob prefer Google. But I don't have any music on Google. But with Amazon, I have Prime, so the music.
A tough choice. Any help please reply :0)

I am too, just finished night shift, so will have to go sleep for a few hours and set alarm to see what they got, though apart from the big stuff, reminds me of a big jumble sale or TK Max, where you spend hours searching and walk out with a pair of socks or an egg cup (ya know what I mean)
Anyhow, currently watching https://youtu.be/Z723dnRDO_c
Which shows a new device, called Amazon Show. So wonder if they are clearing out stock. For a number of reasons;
They can bring in the Show at a similar price point
£70 Off undercuts Google so tempts people towards Amazon
With Apple announcing a new one, they have Echo 2 in the pipeline to compete some more.
Considering all my own options. As much as I like the fuzzy feeling of knowing I have a bigger discount, so Echo would make me feel more fuzzy inside. Wonder if it may be worth dipping my toes in with the cheapest version, being the Dot. That way I can test it all out and dig deeper on version 2's and the next wave of smart assistants.
Lol, just end up waffling to myself whilst talking. That's why I love these forums as like minded people to talk with. The Mrs would just nod her head and become confused and say "Do you really need one?"
I need my technology/bargain fix.....so yeah...but no....but yeah!
Anyways, if anyone has some good advice or pointers, drop me a shout out, as need a few hours sleep cos head butting my iPad typing this, as I slowly nod off.
Thanks for listening if ya got this far, hopefully a few of us will drop on the EchoSystem (ha) together and share our experiances and tips. Still would prefer Google (as would find some use for the Chrome I bought), but looks like Amazon may get my cash first.
From someone who has had a Home and a Echo and a Dot, if the Echo is £79.00, I'd get one of those.
Apple Homepod - Stupid name, and not out yet. Plus £££
Google Home - UK lags waaaay behind the US model featureset. Also, still no reminders or BT.
Amazon Echo - £80 is a good price. Better mic than Google Home. Speaker not great for £150, but fine for £80.
Amazon Dot - The brains of the operation. If you have existing speakers, it's a no brainer. Just be aware the speakers will need to be on in order to get any response. Also be aware lots of BT speakers have auto shutoff features.
Also, never underestimate how terrible it is having to say Hey/OK Google every time you want to make a command. Alexa is just much nicer to say.
BigTimeDealer
10 Jul 171#111
Thank you very much & yes I'm in a similar position. If the only difference between them is the larger speaker, I will indeed get the the dot and link it to my existing speaker set up (or heck, probably just use an x-mini or something). It could be a great entry to this type of product. Can't go wrong with the 99p for 4 months Amazon music either. 4 months will be enough time to test it, and see if I like and want to upgrade, or put it in the draw and never see it again. In fact, 4 months takes us up to black friday....

I'm not getting conned into buying something like I don't want or need like the Dot.
I have an Echo Dot in the kitchen (which is open plan and linked to the living room). I find it very handy, as I can ask it for the time when I am rushing around getting kids lunches ready in the morning, setting alarms when cooking or adding things to the shopping list when I open the fridge or a cupboard and notice that we need something. Mainly though use it for music - Amazon Music has a decent selection, your purchased music is available (including CDs which have been auto-ripped by Amazon), and you get about 5GB to upload your own. The kids love it, as they can shout "Alexa - play Let it Go" and keeps them entertained for all of two minutes

I'm pretty sure I've used it as a bluetooth speaker for my phone too.

WESTMORLAND. O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!
KING. What's he that wishes so?
My cousin, Westmorland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmorland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall see this day, and live old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say "To-morrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words—
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester—
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Prime day

Unless new offers arrive at midnight the UK has been done over on the Prime Day promos.
The US had $10 credit for watching Prime Video content whilst the rest of Europe had €5. We have had zero.

I have Hue all over the house, and its a pain to have to go to the kitchen Echo just to remotely turn the lights off when we are upstairs - seems pointless to use the Hue app, too. (Hue lights have to remain switched on at the wall for them to work)
But, for us, the main reason is to be able to use the echo dots as an internal comms system.

Correct, they don't have a battery anyway so not really suitable for carrying around the house. But you could have one on each floor when controlling home automation like smart lights to turn them on/off. And I guess on larger houses people might go for 3 or 4 of them depending on the coverage.

ghostm4n

Damn, was a topup between echo and Dot.
Now I see the Dot 3 pack and tempted with that.
1 in Kitchen, Living Room connected to surround sound and one in Bedroom. Hopefully the sound will be ok on its own for a bit of light music in the kitchen. No longer a cheap impulse buy as would now be even more.
Might get 2 black and a white one to stick on a window sill in kitchen. Full home integration, rather than a 1 room toy.....ha, trying to sell it to myself. Hopefully the tiny speaker is acceptable for light music. Obv for garden I can attach to my JBL 3 Bluetooth Speaker for more ooomph, or leave Surround running in living room for more immersion or better sound.
Hovering over the Buy Button.....should I do it?.....Lol

Possibly you bought your big ticket stuff last year and so don't "need" as much stuff this year?
Stitch123
10 Jul 171#309
I've got both. The soundtouch 10 lives in one place and has goes louder and I like the preset buttons as I can have Spotify playlists and radio assigned to each one however I had this before my dot so that's not needed as much now. My mini moves around the house - garden for bbqs, garage when I'm training, even the bathroom.
ghostm4n
10 Jul 17#310
Can't really talk to the Soundtouch 10 as don't have one, but when i compared that in store to the Sonos Play 1 they seemed very similar to me. Now I have two play 1s, sub and a 5, but if you gave me a choice of just the play 1 or the Soundlink Mini 2 i would probably go for the Soundlink, as not only is sound excellent but it's portable so perfect for the garden. So, long story short I think I would opt for the Soundlink, but mainly because I would get utility out of it being portable.
Don't think any of them will disappoint soundwise to be fair.

mfactor to ashbarron
10 Jul 17#347
Dot wont play itunes apple and all that...... but you can get google play and upload all your itunes tracks to it which works great with the dot ( tho the full sized echo is a better deal imo)
but to go non amazon I sold all my echo's and went with google home , much better interface etc and down to £99 at currys at the moment
ghostm4n to ashbarron
10 Jul 171#357
No no no. The Dot is absolutely not a standalone speaker for music. If you don't already have a decent speaker to connect it to, you will be so disappointed. It's great when added to a speaker, but a decent speaker itself it is not!!!
If you can handle the extra cash I think the Echo would be perfect for what you want. Good speaker, bluetooth and all the Alexa functionality to boot which the kids will enjoy.

Considering some of the junk the warehouse sells I don't think most things are even opened let alone checked. I bought a £350 camera lens last week, described as perfect and tested, what I got was an old version of the lens, at least 10 years old, extremely well used, and not working! If they don't check something of that value then I doubt the tablets will be checked, possibly just opened to see if they are there, cant see them switching them on and checking serial numbers or anything. Make sure you remove your account though as they may come with them already set up.

There is a good deal on Amazon Fresh if you use all their offers - I've got £90 worth of stuff for around £20.
Firstly - there is the £10 off £80 spend; but the £80 counts before promotions not after (which is refunded if you spend over £40)
So - take the Prosecco promotion - your basket is nearly at £30 already - but you have only spent £4
Add in some of the 50% off items and some of the cheap £5 off 5 items
Add in the Amazon Wand and get to £80
Use the £10 of £80 spend once your total is at £80 to lower the amount even further.

Nope.. harmony can control way more devices then echo does because it supports nearly all wifi devices and infrared devices regardless they're 'smart' or not. And the the programmability of harmony activity goes well beyond the simple voice command Alexa can handle..
Also echo can't really beat a physical control with touch screen .. when you're sitting in front of your TV you don't always want to yell at Alexa..
Personally I find it useful to program all my activities related to my home cinema system on Harmony then sometimes use Alexa to trigger them when convenient
Harmony and Echo are very good compliment to each other.

Well i just watched the Samsung MU6400 deal go live and the price went from £598.75 too £639.00 then the deal was applied (it was at £599.75 for the last two weeks).
Price:\x09£639.00
Deal Price:\x09£533.40
You Save:\x09£105.60 (17%)
So it updated at 8am on the dot (when the deal went live) jumped £43 and then they took off £105.60 surely that is price manipulation?

Throwing a different view in, apart from using echo, you have to think about switches. We had Hive in the last house, I put the bulbs in, and after the initial 'fun' wore off, they became a pain. As we didn't have a negative feed at the switch, when someone switched it off, it reset and you couldn't use the app.
The amount of times someone would use the wall switch. I used to get annoyed with using the app and I was a geek.
So definitely worth bearing in mind.

Alexa only supports Spotify Premium and Amazon's own music service.
If you have Spotify you need to set it up in the app.
The Amazon music Prime free gives 2M tracks and upload locker of 200 tracks (your own music) can be increased to unlimited locker storage for approx £22 per annum.
Currently 4 month FREE .99p Amazon Unlimited 40M tracks works automatically as 2M, can stream 2 dots - different tracks -simultaneously.
Also setup for Tunein and audible.
I'm amazed how well Alexa and Unlimited work, only one album not found so far: "Listen Without Predudice" George Michael.

Gah that frustrating you need an italian billing address to get it.
You *might* be able to manually input the data from the 35 into your strava account, but I've not looked at it in detail. There are plenty of other garmin watches too that will easily share data, but not on a prime day deal...
Fitbit and tomtom i don't know, you'd have to investigate - but i did get the impression Garmin overall focussed more on strava connectivity than others.

The Echo Dot on its own is fine - but not much good for listening to music. The Echo is currently just £45 more and incorporates a rather better speaker.
Hulk i have 2 I got them for when, sonos integrates with Alaxa, they are not that great to play music that's why I've just ordered the Amazon Echo for the kitchen, but yes I do recommend the dots at this price I paid £49 each month or 2 ago,

There are actually better deals in the warehouse if you can hunt them out.
Normally £180 (around £200 a few months ago) - but £160 in the used section - condition 'like new' + additional 20% off - so £128!
Also the Sony 1000X model (top of the range) is under £200 and gets 5 star reviews - normally around £300

hi, yes it was £240 on Amazon warehouse - but if you have Amazon Prime it will take off 20% at the checkout.
I ordered the Sony 100ABN model - but have now cancelled it!
When I was looking at the prices I noticed that Currys are offering 50% off both models.
So don't get the Amazon Warehouse model! Go directly to Currys or ask Amazon to price match the offer for the new model.
I am also going to try and get Amazon to price match but can't get on the live chat yet.
This is truly a great offer.

Im torn between this and the 3 colour one!?
With the switch, seems like a great deal. Unsure if to get either
A) Starter + a colour bulb seperate (Bridge + Dimmer + 2x White Bulbs, 1x Colour Bulb Total £71.98)
B) Starter + 2x colour bulbs. Would have to get 1xE27 1xB22 due to limit of one bulb but could get a converter for other bulb (Bridge + Dimmer + 2x White Bulbs, 2x Colour Bulbs Total £94.47)
C) Stick with B22 Starter Kit (Bridge + 3x Colour Bulbs Total £89.99)
With option B over C, I get 1 less Colour Bulb in place of 2 White Bulbs and the switch for just £4.48 more.
Anyone know what seems the best option??

I'm debating the exact same. The colour kit is good value but I was hoping the two standard bulbs and bridge (which is about £50 I think) would be on offer, but it's not. The ambiance lights are a good price but aren't really what I was after, I will probably be using the bulbs in the hallway, whereas the ambiance is probably better in bedrooms?
Have you had any bad experiences cooking with the Instant Pot where things have turned out bad with the cooking; or with the product acting up? Quite a few reviews said it broke after a few months. Unless there was just a faulty batch of them at some point.
Does the silicone seal transfer taste to different products? I have read it gets quite smelly after a while and people recommend getting a spare to use with more delicate dishes.
Thanks.

But then they do a Switch and Bulb for £29.99, So only £12 for an extra white bulb (Now that would be £119.98) Jeez this, dip my toes in to get a DOT for £35 is going to end up costing me around £200 lol...def tell the mrs the bulbs were only a fiver lol

Had our Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, 6 Litre, 1000 W for over a year and it's worked very well. It does have a bit of leftover smell from previously cooked dishes, but I've never noticed any flavours transferring to new dishes (however I add a lot of spices, so I probably wouldn't notice if it did!).
Well worth the money in my opinion, although I just sold mine, as I have "upgraded" to sous vide instead - very different technique, but I see it as "either slowly cooking something with sous vide or cooking it quickly to get tender meat ready for dinner". Even the pressure cooker takes time, slow cooking meat to perfection with sous vide means I can just make the side dish after work and have dinner ready a lot quicker.

Hi
I've had only good experiences with IP, I think the reason for this is I have the iPhone when I'm using the IP, so its pretty much garanteed to work, following the step by step youtube videos.
• The rice time needs trial apparently, I'd start on 2 mins (not tried rice yet).
• In sauté mode it can get quite hot so best stirring and always keep an eye on things.
•When changing between modes ie Sauté and manual pressure, you need to press off first, this look a bit of time to get used to, but all good now
The IP is gauranteed for 12 months, no issues, as you say may have been a bad batch.
The cooking smells - tip after use wipe lid and seal, and invert lid on IP, ie don't close the lid when in storage, this allows everything to breath.
I guess a spare silicone seal would be handy, I don't tend to cook deserts or yoghurts though so don't have a spare, plus I use the storage tip above.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask more questions!

Well just think that in a day or two you'll be able to mutter the words 'Alexa, light's out'
(Or maybe it is 'lights off' as I don't own the devices)
Enjoy your new gadgets.

I have been looking at sous vide (the Wancle one usually goes for £79.99 in an offer on Amazon and has good reviews) but saw the Instant Pot 8l as part of Prime Day.
Sous vide seems to be more about planning what you are wanting to eat hours beforehand. Unless it is cooked in advanced; ice bath cooled and frozen/refrigerated for a later date. It seems the electric pressure cooker is a bit more along the lines of quick batch cooking items.
Still procrastinating about whether to go for the Instant Pot. I like the idea of cooking bean dishes like refried beans quickly as well as whole chickens. without having to keep checking hobs and the oven

Me too!
Got all excited with the wireless plug thing, and then I thought, when has there ever been an occasion when I've been away from home on holiday and thought.. "I wish there was a way I could flick the mains switch in the living room!?". Never. So amazing as a lot of these gadgets sounds you have to drag yourself back to reality and ask the question.. " do I really need it?"

Is the Echo/Echo Dot smart enough to ignore the commands/demands of other people? For example, if you have a visitor who is a bit of a joker and decides to mess about by ordering a load of stuff; or change alarm settings, heating lighting etc for a 'laugh'.

I don't do ice baths - I cook my things either 24 hours (so preparing the night before), 9 hours (either vacuum sealing a bag the night before or a zip-lock bag in the morning), or small cuts of meat (like steaks) for 2 hours if I don't need to have a meal ASAP when coming home from work.
I'm quite the meat eater and the meat I have had since getting a sous vide has been so much tastier. But it does require planning - can't go shop on the way home and then cook something up on the spot. As I said, very different techniques/approaches, but both can be used to achieve the goal of "food quickly when getting home from work". There are things my sous vide cannot do due to the low temperature limits of it being a water bath. I bought an Anova and a Very Useful Box that I cut a Anova-shaped hole in the lid

I read somewhere that you can set up PINs so you can't order via Alexa without that - never looked much into it - but no, they're not able to recognise individual voices and only allow YOU to use it. Sometimes that's a blessing, sometimes that's a curse.
Only issue I've had, is when having a group of friends over and trying to give commands while there's a conversation going - it doesn't quite work, it picks up everything being said.

Come Christmas, all the Xmas tree lights and other Xmas lights in my living room go into one power strip. That strip has an Alexa enabled WiFi plug between it and the socket. That socket is a right pain to get to, so now I don't have to." Alexa, Xmas Tree off". Absolutely love it, and so do the grandchildren.

11 Jul 17#723
Yeah, you're right. It's funny because third party sellers are told they must ship enough stock to sell for the duration of their slot yet Amazon has failed to do that on some of their own deals and you'd think they'd have much better insight into projected figures.
We also had next to no free credit builders in the run up compared to other markets. The US for example got $10 credit for watching Prime Video. We get a £100k prize instead, not a very fair sharing of marketing money. They also have $10 off $20 when ordering via Alexa deals.

Mind you it's Amazon's loss as it wasn't a lightning deal just one of their Deals of the Day and it didn't sell out so it's them that's lost a sale out of it.

Would it be rude to ask where you got this info?
I also expect this perfectly legitimate deal to get hot AF.

Echo dot = small speaker, designed to connect to your own.
They bith org work exactly the same.
P
So Echo has all the smarts PLUS a good speaker
The Dot has all the smarts also, just with a crappy little speaker, but can be connected to an existing system.
The only real difference between the two that you are paying for is a decent sounding speaker in the form of the Echo.
Just my opinion.
Plus
£10 off now, £10 off later
How to claim: From July 5 to July 10, 2017 at 17:59 BST, Amazon Prime members can, using the code 10NOW40 at checkout, get £10 off their first Prime Now order when they spend £40 and receive a £10 promotional code to spend on a future £40 Prime Now shop ('the Offer'). Click here for full terms and conditions .
It can be powered by micro-USB, and it comes with a micro-USB mains adapter (like most mobile phone chargers).
But if you have a USB wall socket or a device nearby giving out USB power (TV, hifi etc) then plug it into that to save a mains socket.
"Meanwhile, here are the confirmed deals on Amazon devices for Prime Day - these will go live at 6pm today."
Yet, no link to where they are confirmed?
Can I get the prime day deal and also use the £10 of £40 spend on prime now?

Got a £1000 hi-fi set up? get the echo dot then pick your connection option
Also there are so many ways to get prime far cheaper than the £79 standard price if you shop smart e.g. frequently discounted to £59, student membership £39 and even for free if you are willing to use a different email each month, that I really don't see what anyone has to complain about....

Can only control the volume, tracks etc on the Dot/Echo built in speaker

Not sure they'd take hit of £70, tho.

EDIT: Please see below, I'm clearly talking nonsense lol
Anyhow, currently watching https://youtu.be/Z723dnRDO_c
Which shows a new device, called Amazon Show. So wonder if they are clearing out stock. For a number of reasons;
See ya all in a few hours for the sale :0)
Alexa is just much nicer to say.
for people who have the echo, how does it work if I wanted the dot to play bbc 5live via the tuneinradio feature?
Good try though.
Complete list of Alexa commands here:
https://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/amazon-echo-the-complete-list-of-alexa-commands/
I'd like a Roku 3 HD too, but am doubtful they'll be in the Prime deals because of the Fire Stick.
My first Prime Day
Thanks
"Built-in speaker for voice feedback when not connected to external speakers. 3.5 mm stereo audio output for use with external speakers (audio cable not included)"
I'm pretty sure I've used it as a bluetooth speaker for my phone too.
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!
KING. What's he that wishes so?
My cousin, Westmorland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Rather proclaim it, Westmorland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Prime day
I talk to Siri more than I do the missus. Siri will get jealous of Alexa.
But I appreciate these things are hard to resist, and if anything decent pops up, I'll probably go for the free trial as yourself and others have suggested.
Cheers :-)
Yet here I am waiting for this nonsense to start (poo)
Always said it was legit....*cough*

The US had $10 credit for watching Prime Video content whilst the rest of Europe had €5. We have had zero.
They also had some Twitch bonuses.
No credit for signing up to Audible trials either this year it seems.

Thanks for the DOT3PACK code
Maybe place the new order first with the offer, then cancel the other just to make sure you are getting something before stock runs out.
Thanks bagged a factory sealed one
Edit: don't mind me.
Sorry if this is a dumb question
Totally underwhelmed with everything really.
I made two orders with no rush delivery in case I changed my mind and cancelled them both.
That's what Support suggested, but I physically couldn't order another 3 dots as when I selected 3 it would just put 1 into my cart, and hence I couldn't apply the discount.
Spoke to Support over chat and they eventually told me to just order another 1, tell them the order number and they would try to apply the discount (which they did). Got to love Amazon's customer support

Makes it a right royal pain to read!
Also, there might be more a deal on the Fire TV either tonight or tomorrow, so don't give up home yet. I am also holding out for some Hue deals - just need to wait for the next batch of deals to be announced.
Is this deal any good?
Go on....its only 35 quid, you won't miss it
shhhh its okay
Sorry I should have mentioned I already have the dot
Either way it is a stonking deal.
Link Here
What is the better deal here people!? I cannot decide!
....has anybody got any inside knowledge? Will this be something they release at midnight?
Unless you are wanting an echo, it's mostly overpriced tat that they are trying to shift.
Was looking at the baby monitor, but the price isn't anything special to me.
Hopefully the next round will be better - but I'm unimpressed so far.
Don't think any of them will disappoint soundwise to be fair.
Hoping the Hue lighting goes on Prime but haven't seen anything.
Amazon "deal price" - £199.99
Groupon - £169
Not everything is a great deal.
And it's £17.50 at Tesco...
I think it is the c250
tbh most bluetooth speakers will not be much of an improvement over the dot... the one you linked is pretty good but still a small speaker....

I made a post yesterday, and it just stripped out all links and links...add to that he link gore in all these threads it's painful to use.
no audible deals this year :disappointed:
I like how Google does it and also how it handles additional questions. However, 3 Dots, seems a steal and the fact I already have Amazon Prime and the music, prob seems a decent option at the moment.
Sat here with brain block and need to hoover the house, as promised to the Mrs! Best do an impulse buy, hit the button and see what happens when they arrive and save my brain from hours of googling and watching YouTube vids.........until the next techno piece of kit catches my eye.
Just need a decent light that attaches to the Alexa next, just so I can be easily pleased by dimming the lights every few mins like a child....."Alexa...am I going mad?"
Unfortunately I've been using Prime Now for a while (great for hungover grocery shopping, or coming back from holiday on a Sunday), so couldn't get the extra £10 discount, but really happy with the £79 price, and delivery in 2 hours!
I have .......
Now tv smart box ( and keep getting free offers via chromecast lol)
Netflix
Prime Movies etc
Plex
Showbox
and cough . yo ho ho site stuff
Cheers all
Looking for a photo printer, preferably an all in one. Most manufactures offering ~£30 cashback for current models but was waiting for Prime Day before buying.
Canon TS8050 and Epson XP-760 caught my eye last week
After a Bluetooth speaker for the kids so don't want to pay a fortune and was thinking of the Sony SRS-XB10. Is it worth getting a dot instead. Need to play iTunes via Bluetooth though and can't seem to find if the dot will do that
but to go non amazon I sold all my echo's and went with google home , much better interface etc and down to £99 at currys at the moment
If you can handle the extra cash I think the Echo would be perfect for what you want. Good speaker, bluetooth and all the Alexa functionality to boot which the kids will enjoy.

Also, how long do the Philips bulbs last? I would prob need Standard Beyonneta kit. Just seems a lot £30 a bulb for how often bulbs go. Or are they led and last ages?
The cheeky ****.
Edit: White Ambiance just updated, £50 for Hue + 2 White Ambiance + Dimmer Switch which is a good price

The 8L is discounted to £79.95 anyone with a large family this is a good price.
Fantastic product I have used one a few times and would like my own now.
And yeah, these will last for years. I'd guess about a decade. EDIT: Philips quote 15 years

too good to be true :disappointed:
I WANT MY BULBS...NOW!!
Let me know if you find a way..!
Saw it said on orders over £40, so added stuff and still getting the "expired" message.
I think I'll take this as a sign to save my £'s. Sad times.
Have the exact same problems, room with 4 GU10s and the 4th is costing too much. Let me know if you do find a way
"Please note, this promotion has currently been paused - the STUDENT10 code is not currently valid for use at checkout."
Manage to ask a mate if he'd join prime & order another starter kit, so that's 6 bulbs, hopefully I'll be able to get rid of the spare bridge on eBay, going to keep my eyes open though, still need a few more bulbs if I want to kit the whole flat out
Since I got my first Echo it's just been like some crazy addiction with this home automation - what have I started?
I bought the 8L for £79.95 (normally £129.95) in the end. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Pots-Pans/Instant-Litre-Electric-Pressure-Cooker-Brushed-Stainless/B01KHYRHYK/ref=sr_1_1_m?s=prime-day&psr=PDAY&ie=UTF8&qid=1499751774&sr=1-1&keywords=instant+pot
I've cooked on the 6L Instant Pot so am familiar with settings etc, also there is a large, helpful and enthusiastic Instant Pot online community.

I usually dont buy at amazon and I dont know how much one has to pay to be a prime member. What are the costs? Is there any benefit in beeing a prime member just to buy one thing?
•You MUST cancel before the 30 days or amazon will charge so do be aware of this (make a calander entry) cancelling is a few clicks.
Ps out of interest what is the item
Also echo can't really beat a physical control with touch screen .. when you're sitting in front of your TV you don't always want to yell at Alexa..
Personally I find it useful to program all my activities related to my home cinema system on Harmony then sometimes use Alexa to trigger them when convenient
Harmony and Echo are very good compliment to each other.

Price:\x09£639.00
Deal Price:\x09£533.40
You Save:\x09£105.60 (17%)
So it updated at 8am on the dot (when the deal went live) jumped £43 and then they took off £105.60 surely that is price manipulation?
The amount of times someone would use the wall switch. I used to get annoyed with using the app and I was a geek.
So definitely worth bearing in mind.
I'm amazed how well Alexa and Unlimited work, only one album not found so far: "Listen Without Predudice" George Michael.
tried Listen Without Prejudice Volume One' and Alexa cant find.
I've searched the Amazon Music app and the album isn't there either
I'm very happy now, having got it for @£45 less than I've seen before, and I've been researching prices for a month
https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216918057-Uploading-from-a-Garmin-device-?mobile_site=true

Or you could get one of these Anker speakers for £20.99 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016MO90GW
Cheap and cheerful, but reputedly very good.
There are actually better deals in the warehouse if you can hunt them out.
Bagged a pair of Sony noise cancelling headphones I had been after. Sony MDR-100ABN:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EANK8ZO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Normally £180 (around £200 a few months ago) - but £160 in the used section - condition 'like new' + additional 20% off - so £128!
Also the Sony 1000X model (top of the range) is under £200 and gets 5 star reviews - normally around £300
I ordered the Sony 100ABN model - but have now cancelled it!
When I was looking at the prices I noticed that Currys are offering 50% off both models.
So I created a new thread here:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sony-mdr-1000x-noise-cancelling-bluetooth-headphones-discount-code-required-165-2738022
So don't get the Amazon Warehouse model! Go directly to Currys or ask Amazon to price match the offer for the new model.
I am also going to try and get Amazon to price match but can't get on the live chat yet.
This is truly a great offer.
Home delivery only at Currys though
Think they left it live just to get folks email address. How many were there at start?
Then...............the app has just sent me a notification saying, Remember to use your Amazon deal in your wallet, to show sold out again.............grrrrrr
thanks

Canon Pixma TS8050 £89.99

Does the silicone seal transfer taste to different products? I have read it gets quite smelly after a while and people recommend getting a spare to use with more delicate dishes.
Thanks.
I am leaning towards the 3 Colour setup now. But the mrs would probably make use of the switch. So could get one seperate for £17.99 (Total 3 Bulb Starter and Switch £107.98)
However, I now have in my basket the 3 colour setup and a motion sensor!
I've had only good experiences with IP, I think the reason for this is I have the iPhone when I'm using the IP, so its pretty much garanteed to work, following the step by step youtube videos.
• The rice time needs trial apparently, I'd start on 2 mins (not tried rice yet).
• The slow cook feature (again not tried)- but read its best using the medium or high mode, the Low is too Low. Also these look good- https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01K7XKN8I/ref=twister_B01KHZBN5I?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Echo dot, three Phillips hue coloured bulbs, hue motion sensor and Hive smart hearting with installation. COME AT ME SMART HOME!!!
The trouble is, my beautiful dog is called Alexa (shock) Stupid amazon naming their device after my girl... cheeky (:I
thank you (highfive)
Anyway it is all good fun and I was hoping the Huawei smartwatch would be reduced - came in this morning and £40 off so not bad! Also bagged a few things from the warehouse deals.
Hey-ho...I raise my chalice and salute you all. Hope ya all had fun.....now to bed and a week of watching Youtube vids to learn all the tricks of my new techno stuff....Peace x
(Or maybe it is 'lights off' as I don't own the devices)
Enjoy your new gadgets.
Only issue I've had, is when having a group of friends over and trying to give commands while there's a conversation going - it doesn't quite work, it picks up everything being said.
Thanks
(I've spent way too much on dad toys and so should buy something for them

Seems a bit of a hassle having to sort through your shopping list due to nephew added items each time.
We also had next to no free credit builders in the run up compared to other markets. The US for example got $10 credit for watching Prime Video. We get a £100k prize instead, not a very fair sharing of marketing money. They also have $10 off $20 when ordering via Alexa deals.
Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Layout International - after warehouse discount : £62.96 ( brand new price £159.12 )
or until Black Firday at least
Some good whisky deals too.
The Kenwood kmix was a good deal.
Can't think of anything else off the top of my head but I've heard people rave about the gaming deals (not of interest to me).
Mind you it's Amazon's loss as it wasn't a lightning deal just one of their Deals of the Day and it didn't sell out so it's them that's lost a sale out of it.
