**EXTENDED TILL 25TH JUNE**

EE has a new offer of a limited edition Pay As You Go SIM which once you've topped up with a £10 1GB data pack (with 50 texts and 50 minutes of calls) and you've used that data EE will give you 100GB of 4G data per month, for two months.

So basically its spend £10 to get access to 201GB of 4G data (or 3G if that is all your phone/tablet can manage). To get the limited edition SIM you need to apply before 18th June 2015 and then top up with £10 within 14 days of getting the SIM and buy the £10 data pack.

The SIM card EE sends will be a Multi SIM, which holds all three SIM card formats (standard, micro and nano) in one.

EE does allow tethering on all their 4G plans, including on PAYG so I don't see this being any different. Also appears to work fine on MiFi devices and tablets.

For use in the United Kingdom only (yes that means no data roaming!).

Offer T&Cs here - http://ee.co.uk/help/accounts-billing-and-topping-up/terms-and-conditions/ee-terms-and-conditions/ee-additional-products-and-services/limited-edition-pay-as-you-go-sim-offer-details

Direct link should the link above not work: http://shop.ee.co.uk/campaigns/limited-edition-sim

For the point of complete and utter CLARITY:

- Yes, it really is 100GB each month for two months
- No, you can't use it abroad
- No, you don't have to top up £10 next month to get that month's 100GB allowance
- Yes, you can tether
- Yes, it'll work in a MiFi or a tablet

Vee, chuck it in a cheap 4G handset with Wifi N / AC and stuff it up / tape it to a
pole at higher than roof height, so you can get a clearer line of sight from the
MBNL masts that EE are now using ;-)

With the overheads on the push from the closest mast, you will get much higher speeds
the higher you can get it.. if you can stump it the cash up, get a 5v 1.5a solar charger OR
wire it up to a garage socket with one of the CPC / Maplin really, really long power wires
[simple snip and replace] for where ever you put it [see my TP-link stuff it up a pole threads]
and then you do not have to worry about "charging it" every 2 days!

This is a brilliant deal for caravans, boats, spaceships and all the other places you would not
waste money on, at the stupid normal per GB data costs at EE ;-)

After the 2 months, you should have downloaded way more than enough with the 201GB
to last you through to the next time EE run this PR stunt..

The "Phil & Dan" sim. With that sim you didn't need to buy a top-up if you wanted, just put straight into phone and away you go.

I was hoping I would be given a cracking offer to get me to stay with them after the taster but no such luck.

From the T&C's page

So to reconfirm, one should get 201Gb in total lasting 60 days.

Also worth mentioning if you order before 31st May you get entry into their competition to win some Glasto tickets. If you were to buy this much data through 3's 321 offer it'd cost you over £2k - hot from me!

Nice comparison. I was seriously going to spend 2k.

Now you've had your fun, 3 are the best network in UK. How much does it cost to use 200gb of data in Spain? With 3, its included. Do the math please.

Edit..

Its £10,000. (£25 for 500mb) If you're gonna compare... Compare that. Does this now mean its cold? Nah. But 3 is where its at. Especially once they take over o2.

3: Hurry, as these will be limited to X qty and with all the torrent leechers / movie downloaders out there.. used up very quickly!

201GB for a Tenner.. Priceless!

If only EE would realize, this is where data needs to be priced on 4G, so everyone rushes into the stores and buys the EE Harrier [Ben-Q] 4G handset at a ton.. but no, they will carry on selling pay-as-you-go Lumia 640's at £150 which is stupid money..
ashraf86uk

Feel free.. it is not a Rec Data sim.. it is a Rec Phone sim.. just buy a crappy EE Harrier for £100, topping up the sim they send you for the 100GB deal and tether of the phone and / or any other 4G phone..

If they see you tethering on the sim via a Mifi / Tablet or any other non-rec phone device they will just cut it off, bill you for data use at data rates and as seen in the past, simply blacklist your EE account to stop you doing it again..

Worth all the bother? Nope, worth using any 4G cheapo handset stuffed up in the Loft as a "hotspot" which is allowed.. Oh YES!

Can anyone tell me how would I get more minutes and text? Can I top up more then £10 to get more minutes?

In terms and conditions it says the SIM comes pre-loaded with £10 data pack and as soon as you top up £10 your pack will starts. However if I want to use the sim as my main phone I would need more minutes.

Any clue anyone has for this please?

18 May 15 #36
Taken from FAQs

You'll be able to see exactly how much data, minutes or texts you have left in the My EE app and My Account – this will appear as soon as you’ve made your first call or text.

If you need more calls, texts or data you can top up to get an add-on at any point.

Each to their own. I'm looking for speed than capacity as I have tested the last "Phil & Dan" deal & EE came out on top for speed in my area. Lets just say that I couldn't use up all the 200GB per "Phil & Dan" SIM myself + I had several to give away to friends who were more than happy for speed boost. It was far faster than what they got from the likes of Vodafone, O2, etc + they came back saying they couldn't use up all the data but they were impressed by the sheer speed it downloads.

Btw, this was still far faster than what I get from landline based ADSL upto 24MB as I only get around 16/17MB at best where I live. Hell, even this beats BT Infinity upto 40MB (can't get 80MB) speeds in my area after speed tests. Only closer contender would be VM Fibre upto 50MB.

Anything above that then we're talking EEE speeds.

Either way, I will be porting over just to take advantage of this extra speed. It works for my needs.

Are you one of those greedy leecher folks who constantly downloads doggy porn 24/7 on Three network stealing all the bandwidth clogging up everyone on the same network?

A couple of things, although they can cancel it and cancel your account (as explained in the T&Cs: "We can withdraw, suspend, extend or change the offer at any time without notice.") they can't force you to pay for data just for using it in a tablet or mifi.

The T&Cs say nothing about Tablets/mifis, and as it is a pay-as-you-go sim, there's no way they can automatically get your money anyway. That would be an easy one to take to small claims court.

It shouldn't make any diff as it's a brand spanking new EE PAYG SIM with temporary number. Are you suggesting that no one is not allowed to jump networks? Wrong. That's like saying, you can only use British Gas forever & not SSE. People are allowed to move to a diff networks at your choosing.

It would not make any diff to what PAYG plan or allowance you get in this deal as that is linked to the PAYG account side.

If you want to keep your personal number & move to another network then all you need is a PAC number from your own network. Suggest you read the article below.

I once personally had a speed test result of over 100MB/sec while using one of the Dan and Phil SIMs. Needless to say, I was amazed. This was outside Bridgend Train Station in south Wales. And in the same spot I ran a speed test on my O2 phone out of curiosity - returning a result of 0.8MB/sec.
EE is definitely the superior network over here. O2's lack of investment sickens me.

Mate, thank you so much for this! I need internet for this event at near the end of the month and the venue is charging me £60 so getting this would be a HUGE help. I've had a quick read through the T&Cs and the comments on here but I can't seem to find the info on tethering. I've never actually tethered my phone before because the 3 contract I'm on doesn't allow it :/ But is there anywhere I can confirm I will be able to tether my phone with this EE sim so that I can access the internet from my latop?
m5rcc to Mobizzle186

preecey to Mobizzle186

I can confirm you WILL be able to tether.
I used a similar EE promo SIM a few months back (the 'Dan and Phil' SIMs).

I never experienced any slowdowns or lack of internet access when using my laptop.

EE, O2 and Vodafone are very lenient when it comes to tethering. Three, GiffGaff, Tesco and other virtual network operators don't tend to allow it, or restrict it in some way (such as Three now only allowing 2GB of tethering on their phone plans/4GB on SIM only plans).

preecey
18 May 15 1 #152
The data cap counts uploads exactly the same as if you were downloading - 100GB per month for two months. So you could upload 99GB in a month and download just 1GB and you'll be fine. Or 50/50, whatever way you use data. In short, it's 100GB of combined uploads and downloads per month.

Sorry, too many replies to do.

Nobody knows unless you know someone who or has worked previously within EE PAYG dept. I suspect it's more of a internal error during the port process via external network ports company than a EE PAYG policy as would it not make sense for EE not to encourage potential new customers to move to their faster 4G network.

If EE PAYG claims it's policy then all that does is just skewers the amount of new PAYG customers when in reality it's just the repeated same customers. Be aware that some businesses will use new customers as a sign of new business when it's just the repeated same customers. Maybe EE is trying to give the impression that they are the UK's biggest mobile telecommunications network by extended subscriber numbers.

Never had any issues with EE PAYG myself previously but then I always take a pinch of salt when it comes to customer service advice from any company as it really depends on who you really talking to. Some customer service advisors will know their stuff back to front & some jack all but read from the standard reply screens/sheets. It really depends on their so call company training & years of knowledge/experience to know what they are talking about.

Some companies do outsource their customer services to 3rd parties with shocking training as it's cheaper to operate than in-house.

Trust me, at times it's far much quicker to do your research on their company website or elsewhere than call thorough their call centres waiting or been held up when their advisors are trying to find an answer for you.

If you had issues in the past then I would always suggest to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion just in case you don't get fobbed off as I tend to find that all contact centres appear to be more so concerned about their KPI's than genuine customer care issues.

Btw, I don't work for EE, past or present or the future.

preecey to moneysm
18 May 15 #173
You have to top up £10 when you get the SIM which will activate the pack already queued - a 1GB pack with 50 minutes and 50 texts which lasts up to thirty days. Once you've topped up you then text '100GB' to 150 to get your additional 100GB per month for two months. Hence a total allowance of 201GB to be used in the space of two months, for £10.

"All packs recur automatically unless you opt out." (every 30 days) If you opt out you won't get the extra 100gb - you will have to renew for a second month at a cost of £10 to get it.

You are correct to say that paid packs recur automatically. But that only happens if you have enough credit to buy the next pack. If you only top up £10, you'll get one month's pack plus two months 100GB free and, once the first pack expires, it won't recur unless you actually add credit.

we have been using a three sim for our home internet for the past 12 months, on average we use 16gb a month. the data connection speed is 'H+', which lets us as a family of 4 stream videos, play games, browse and generally everything we need to do online. You may be right but the t&cs state "The 100GB free data will start as soon as you have used up the 1GB data included in your Data Pack." if you do not renew the data pack for the second month you won't have the 1GB to use. Can someone please explain to a non techie like me why the phone companies make such an issue over tethering?
I have sight issues so I like to hook up my phone to my netbook to make it easier to use the net. If my plan includes data each month what difference does it make whether I use the screen of my phone or link it to my netbook for the bigger screen? Surely I'm using the same data allowance?
At the moment I don't need to worry about this as I am on the original 3 One Plan but this ends in September. The 3 phone call reception in my town is rubbish. The new In Touch app hasn't helped much. I am thinking to change companies when the time comes.

Well Three started to limit their tethering allowance because a select few were abusing it and using the One Plan as their sole internet provider. I would guess that most people don't get near their data limits, it's probably just a number that is used when people compare different providers.

I've got an ipad mini WiFi I'd love to use with this whilst our and about. Am I right to think I'll need a 4g phone that can be used as a WiFi hotspot for this to work? My current phone is an LG g2.. Which works of course.. But my contract sim is only 2gb data monthly so I cant afford to tether my ipad from it.

Does any gadget exist that you can plug a sim card into, that simply acts as a wide hotspot when you're on the move?

So it doesn't cost any more per unit to provide the service, it's because some people are hogging the lines? Thanks for the explanation.
I don't use much each day and if I can get a free hotspot I would use that. I got the plan because I go to Edinburgh a couple of times a year to research my family tree. I have both Scottish and English ancestors. The centre does not provide access to ancestry or FindmyPast websites so I often need to use them for cross reference.
If I have my phone tethered but am not on a site, am I still using data or is it only counting when I open the phone's browser?

sure its 201GB ? More likely that extra 100GB is not per month but 100GB that you can spend during 2 months time... so if you use 80GB in month1 that leaves you with 20GB for month 2... or am I missing something?

It's like some data deals giving you "whooping" 20GB to use for 24months... which some people think is 20GB per month.. while it really isn't...

19 May 15 #262
So lets be straight then. The ee deal is not unlimited ever, vf is unlimited for 3 months. Price is similar in the 1st month, you get many more mins/text with vf, but vf is a rolling contract so you've got to cancel, and with ee you get 4g thrown in and pay extra with vf? Am I reading this right?

It still makes the ee deal look OK, especially if you want 4G, but in terms of total amount of data/calls/text, vf looks good.

I have noticed a lot of people asking if this will work with tablets. As long as EE have not changed their terms and conditions since the Dan & Phil promo, then yes it will work.

EE have a similar policy to Giffgaff, as long as the tablet is phone enabled out of the box then it will work.

I was with Three for years on the One Plan, when they ended that plan I bought a Tab S 10.5 LTE believing I would be able to use it with my Three Sim as the Tab S is basically an oversized Galaxy S5. Against advice given here I purchased the Tab S only to find out that Three block data usage.

I then tried Giffgaff which accepted my Tab S but was slower than dial up.

EE worked perfectly and for 2 months I had mobile internet topping 8 MB/Sec.

Ideal in a dual SIM phone such as the Moto G along side your regular number SIM as you can set what each SIM is for.

20 May 15 #302
Do you have to toupup again for 2nd month of 100gb?
Khairul
20 May 15 #303
I've just had a re-read of the T&Cs, the first part of which is (bold bits emphasised by me):

Limited Edition pay as you go SIM 100GB free May/June 2015 - Terms and
Conditions

Sign up by 23:59 on 18th June 2015 for a free Limited Edition pay as you go SIM via the EE website,
and we’ll give you a UK data allowance of 100GB each month for 2 consecutive months for free. The
100GB of data is for use in the UK only. You need to put the SIM we send you in your phone within
14 days of receiving it
, top up £10 to activate your Data Pack then text 100GB to 150 to activate the
free data.

There are a number of questions which arise:

1) Is 31st May really the last day to order the limited edition SIM? The title and description wording is that you need to "sign up" "via the EE website" "by 23:59 on 18th June 2015". This seems to suggest the limited edition SIM would be available to order till then.

2) Do you really need to top up within 14 days of receiving it? First of all, there's no way EE would know exactly what day you received the SIM. Secondly, the T&Cs say that the 14-day restriction is the time limit for putting your SIM in the phone, not to top up (perhaps therefore you can defer the top up, and therefore the 1GB pack, and therefore the 100GB, till later?).
gizmoman
20 May 15 #304
It's all a bit vague isn't it, i suspect the 31st of May date is the last date for entry into the Glastonbury draw, the cut off for that couldn't be much later, it may well be the sim will be available after that without the draw. the sims are sent out royal mail 1st Class so they could assume you get them the next day and start the 14 day countdown from then (though I doubt they are that concerned with the date and may will ignore the 14 day limit). The T and C's on the sim pack are however quite explicit as to the activation of the second months 100gb free data, it is as I suspected on payment of the second months £10 pack fee. The wording is "Top up within 14 days of getting this sim to buy your data pack then text to activate the 100gb free. 100gb free starts when 1gb in the data pack runs out and lasts up to 30 days. This happens again in month two." Maybe the OP will now edit the title?

got my six sims today, the other 6 are coming tomorrow.
I do believe its 100gb to use over 2 months.
for those with the Phil and Dan sim i activated all my sims around 23/12 last year but putting it in an old blackberry, waited for the text confirmation and immediately removed sim.
if you did this then the 2 month 100gb per month starts once you start to use data, I have been using Dan and Phil sim ever since, I am using one now and that was renewed on the 18th, it will finally run out next month, then I'll use my last 2 Dan and Phil sim which should take me up until November.

I suspect you're right about 31st May possibly being the last day to get a Glastonbury SIM, after which it will be a non-Glastonbury Limited Edition.

Just to clarify what you said about the T&C's, you quoted directly from the SIM pack itself? Supposing you are right though, that would contradict the T&Cs on the website where it says that 100GB allowances are consecutive (not separated by a 1GB data pack).

Based on my interpretation of the T&Cs, you could possibly do this: Get the SIM, put it into a phone, and put the SIM away. When you need it, top it up, and then text 100GB to 150.

If you have not used the Dan & Phil SIMs yet then I'm afraid it's too late. You needed to have received the text some time in December at the latest.

preecey
22 May 15 1 #360
I wouldn't have thought that my comment would have been taken so seriously, what I was implying is that you need not worry. I meant it in jest, anyway.

The top up is in no way a recurring thing. You've topped up your £10, that's it. The £10 data pack only recurs if you have enough credit on your SIM. If you don't, they won't automatically take money from your card. I can assure you that. As far as I know, the only network who can and will take money automatically from your debit card is GiffGaff (when your credit runs below a certain amount), but even then it will only be when you've explicitly ticked a box in advance saying that they can do so.

Relax, you will get your 100GB next month and no more money will be taken from your card.

Despite it not being necessary, if you want peace of mind, you can always text STOP PACK to 150. This won't stop your 100GB allowance either this month or next. It'll just stop the £10 data pack from being queued next month to start if you have sufficient credit.

I'd be very surprised, in fact amazed if that's the case if you ordered your sim from the proper link. You only get the 1gb when you top up £10 which automatically starts your data pack, if you don't top up your sim wont even become active and you cant get the 100gb until you have topped up, started your pack and text 150.

Already connected it to my router via a iphone and used 4gb in just under 24hrs. 100gb is not lasting the month

Setup my ASUS AC68 as a ireless bridge to the iphone personal hotspot. I used the usb port on the back of the router to keep the phone charged.

If it was a decent Andoid phone or I was using DD-WRT, I'd just plug it into the USB as the router will recognise it as a WAN connection.

I have this all up and running now. SIM card came within 48 hours. Just done a speedtest on it and it is reporting 42Mbps which seems a bit high. But the connection is faultless.

I have put it into my missus' old lumia 625 and connected all our stuff to it in the hotel we are currently in. It seems more reliable than my infinity at home.

And now it will do me for my holidays in wales and Scotland for the next 2 months.

Top deal. Best bargain I have had on here.
preecey to ewaawoowaa
23 May 15 #391
42Mbps seems about right. I've seen speed test results of 100Mbps before while using the Dan and Phil SIMs last year. Truly amazing. Especially here in Wales (that 100Mbps result was obtained outside Bridgend Train Station).

With regards to your holiday in Wales; I don't know where in Wales you're going, but here's a heads up/personal experience with regards to EE's coverage in south Wales:

Almost blanket 4G coverage between Cross Hands (small town 30 minutes north west of Swansea) and Newport.
Excellent 3G coverage in areas further west from Cross Hands, including towns like Carmarthen, Tenby, Saundersfoot, Havefordwest, Pembroke Dock, Fishguard etc. Most of these towns are still only served by 2G services from primitive O2 and Vodafone. Goes to show how much more money EE has invested here.

Can't comment on north Wales as I'm not from that neck of the woods but have heard EE's great up there too.

Enjoy your holiday. If you're visiting south Wales I highly recommend visiting Llangennith and Three Cliffs in Gower. Swansea has some stunning coastline.

Here are the full t&cs from EE

Limited Edition pay as you go SIM 100GB free May/June 2015 - Terms and Conditions
Sign up by 23:59 on 18th June 2015 for a free Limited Edition pay as you go SIM via the EE website, and we’ll give you a UK data allowance of 100GB each month for 2 consecutive months for free. The 100GB of data is for use in the UK only. You need to put the SIM we send you in your phone within 14 days of receiving it, top up £10 to activate your Data Pack then text 100GB to 150 to activate the free data. The 100GB free data will start as soon as you have used up the 1GB data included in your Data Pack. The 100GB free data will last for 30 days or until it runs out, whichever happens first. Any unused data will not roll over to the next month. If you exceed this 100GB allowance or want to use data outside the UK, you’ll need to top up and buy a pay as you go data add-on (standard charges will apply), see ee.co.uk/payg.
You’ll need 3G or 4G coverage to use your 100GB data and a compatible 3G or 4G device. To use 4G you must be within a 4G enabled area and in range of a 4G base station. 4G coverage is not available everywhere in the UK, see ee.co.uk/coverage. See our standard data terms at ee.co.uk/terms for what you can do with your data.
The SIM also comes pre-loaded with a £10 Data Pack. The pack will start as soon as you’ve topped up £10 then make a call, send a text message or use data. All packs recur automatically unless you opt out. Services are for use in UK only. See ee.co.uk/payg for terms of this pack and details on all of our other packs.
By signing up for the SIM you agree to being sent marketing communications from us.
Offer not available in any other channel. We can withdraw, suspend, extend or change the offer at any time without notice. One SIM per customer only. Only for customers in the UK age 16 or over.

The SIM comes with an E Top Up card which you can use almost anywhere (PayPoint outlets, Tesco, ASDA etc) or alternatively you can go to any shop and ask for a £10 EE voucher. Make sure the shop staff put it through as an EE top up though, as an Orange or T-Mobile one won't work.

WaftyCranker
24 May 15 #414
Voted hot for the deal and extra hot for making the post clear and simple

1: Cannot be used in a Mifi / Tablet as it is a Phone Rec EE sim, not a data sim
2: If you do try it in a Mifi / Tablet and get away with it, EE have the right to charge you for the data used
as a data sim at £XXX per GB

I used the Dan and Phil sim in my Mifi ( after activation on my phone) and it worked fine for the 2 months it was valid for. How are they going to charge you for using it in a Mifi when you are on PAYG ?

.

I wanted to know if I could stack the sims ( delay the activation until the current one had ran out so I could have six months use) but the EE helpdesk was useless - Did not know anything about the offer and could not give an expiry date for activations. I also asked about the fact that the sim had to be activated within 14 days of receiving it but when I asked how they knew when I had received the sim and they just made up a load of cobblers. I did manage to delay activation for 2 months on the second sim and it worked fine so it should work on these sims too.

24 May 15 1 #418
Hey Guys.
So i ordered it, carried out the process, it works fine.
I am using it in my Huawei E5332 Hotspot device as I type.
It works fine.

The Huawei is only a 3G one, so i know the speeds are around 5Mb DL and 1.5 UL.
Teathering of my Old note 3 gave me about 25MB + DL and 15MB UL.

Does anyone know of any good 4G external devices? I saw one on Carphone Warehouse, that was £9.99 upfront and then 20 a month on a 30 day rolling contract.
preecey to CrazeUK
24 May 15 #419
That's the EE Osprey you're referring to on the CPW website. A few months ago the upfront cost was nil so I took out the contract, then the next day gave my 30 day notice, used up my 15GB allowance for the month then got a final bill of around £20.60 or something like that - and the device was mine to keep. Great deal that was. Heck, it's still a great deal even if they're now asking £9.99 upfront.

Anyway, it's a fantastic little device. Currently using it with this promotional SIM inside. The built in battery lasts all day even with heavy use, and can be unlocked easily for a quid on eBay, if you ever wanted to use another network's data SIM in it.

I highly recommend it.

zaker505
25 May 15 #422
Not sure if anyone has tried this but I just managed to change the data pack to £15 talk & text pack which gives 750 minutes, unlimited text and 10 MB of data (since there is 100 GB as promotion, we don't need more data from the pack).

So now I have 100 GB of data as promotion and 750 minutes and unlimited data for £15 only. They way is to do this is to top up £15 whilr making sure no text or call or internet usage occurs. Once toped up you can change the pack and it will start straight away.

Im using the SIM as my main SIM do I needed more minutes but if you using it purely for data, I don't see any reasons why £1 data pack would not work and active the 100 GB.

If someone tried that please let me know.
gizmoman to zaker505
25 May 15 #423
That's interesting, you still had to text 100GB to 150 at some point though? Did you do that straight away after topping up the £15, or change the plan first then do it?
preecey
25 May 15 2 #424
Yep, just £30 in total, give or take a few pence. Make sure you ring EE up to cancel the day after you take out the contract. The excuse I gave was that I only needed it for a short break of two weeks. They'll then action the 30 day notice period for you. Once that has elapsed the contract SIM will completely cancel down after the 30th day.

I'd personally pick the Osprey over that 4G Huawei device. There's three reasons for this:

- The Osprey has a bigger battery so will last all day like I said
- The Osprey has a built-in display so you can check signal strength etc
- The Osprey has a rubberised yellow frame so is more durable.

But the Huawei is a smaller device so if you prefer portability/pocketability, then that'll be better. Not that the Osprey is huge or anything, though.
zaker505
25 May 15 #425
Comment

I tried to change the plan before I top up but it requires a credit first so I topped up but switch off the mobile data as if the phone start using the internet or you make call or send text the original Data pack get activated. Then I went via My EE app to change the pack and it did work.

Yes you will still need to text 100 GB after the pack is active and its gonna get confirmed in seconds.

Hi - Isn't the yellow rubberised version the Osprey 2 and therefore £49-99 on Pay as you go?

the other pay month contract one is the older Osprey - not the new Osprey 2.

Would be interested to know what the difference between the Osprey and Osprey 2 is if anyone could advise.

Thanks

The original Osprey also has the yellow rubberised casing, here's a link to the deal I purchased several months ago, albeit it now has a £9.99 upfront cost:

http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/broadband/mobile-broadband/buy/osprey-black-mobile-wifi-em097-fcon4

If the link doesn't work, type in 19500755 in the search box at the top of the Carphone Warehouse page.

The new Osprey 2 doubles up as a portable battery pack so you can use it to charge your phone as well as acting as a WiFi hotspot. The original Osprey, which I have, is only used as a portable MiFi device

Am new to downloading on mobiles & tablets ,What kinds of things would folks usually download on such packages ?
preecey to redbiro
25 May 15 #443
Anything and everything really. The term 'downloading' is very broad term, it covers virtually anything you do online. When you simply browse the internet, i.e. view a webpage such as hotukdeals.com, you've technically downloaded. You've downloaded the text, images and other data that make up the site so that you can view it.
If you're referring to larger files then yes, things like BBC iPlayer streams and downloads, apps and games downloads, streaming services such as Spotify, YouTube and TuneIn Radio are all technically classed as downloads. Downloading books, PDF files, Office documents, images and videos, watching videos that automatically play while browsing your News Feed on Facebook... everything is downloaded to your device. Even just checking your bank balance using your bank app technically counts as a download as a small piece of data is sent and retrieved to and from the server to authenticate you and bring you the information you need.
So yes, 'download' is a pretty generic term that applies to virtually anything you do online.

They look pretty sealed up to me, and I wouldn't want to attempt to disassemble one.

Looking at the Alcatel spec pages online (because after all, the EE Osprey is technically a rebadged Alcatel Y855) would reveal that there's a 3000mAh battery inside. Which would explain why I get great battery life out of it. I don't see any reason why you would want to consider replacing the battery in it - in around two years time there's probably going to be a superfast LTE-A MiFi device out by then which will be as cheap as this
veedubjai
25 May 15 #449
I'm a tinker by nature who loves to see the innards of how things work. Like most things in life, there is always going to be new technologies & new ideas constantly moving forward but I loath & hate the idea of a so easily throw away society as we do seem to waste a lot in this country compare to other nations. If you're happy with the mifi & the battery can be replaced, why not?

Only asked as I much prefer the Ospray's LCD display than the new Osprey 2/Osprey 2 Mini LED indicators.

I did checked out the Alcatel spec pages prior to asking just to gage what's on offer between mifi devices &, the future's bright with stats like Wi-Fi: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac; 2.4 & 5 GHz; 2x2 MIMO; up to 32 users simultaneously connected, External Interface: Micro USB 3.0 High Speed.

These mifi devices are getting more faster & smarter by the day.

No doubt new technologies will come at a high price to start but will trickle down as time goes by.

just had 5 days hols with this sim plumbed into an EE Buzzard car wifi dongle. used it for the journey both ways with my little one using netflix on ipad, and our phones connected to it. and for 5 days in a caravan plugged into a usb plug. managed to get decent 4G signal when our O2 phones couldn't get 3G. downloaded a few films and used the dongle as wifi for our phones and 2 ipads. hardly dented the free 100G. well worth the £10 spend. Could anyone tell me if there is a way to connect the usb dongle direct to the ipad via the lightning connector for power?? if not it will happily be used on my laptop until it expires!!

Well... After a week on holiday (the reason for getting the SIM), 4 calls and a load of hassle, they still haven't added the 100GB on.
Nobody in customer services knows anything about this offer or is able to do a damn thing to help.
As I'm back from holiday, I don't need the data anymore so I demanded my £10 back... The guy flat-refused because I'd used some data
I made an analogy to getting 1 pea and having to pay for the entire meal to no avail.
It hardly seems worth the effort for £10 but the principle of them not delivering on a promise might make me formally complain :disappointed:

Anyone else have this bother?

Mine was brilliant, I was regularly getting 20 to 30 megabits, the only glitch was that from time to time it would drop the signal, however the signal quickly came back.

When the Phil and Dan Sim ran out I tried giffgaff again. Giffgaff is now worse than it was 3 years ago when I left.

I honestly believe that giffgaff should be prosecuted for false advertising and mis-selling as they claim truly unlimited, however, it is not fit for purpose as you cannot use it. It took minutes just to load a page, it is slower than the old AOL dial-up.

Keep the SIM in overnight with the phone switched on. Then turn the phone off and on again the next morning. If it still doesn't work try again the day after. Several people have reported this and have snapped their SIMs in anger, only to find that other people with some patience have had the SIM activate itself the next day.
This issue is in part due to the fact that EE are recycling old disconnected numbers, and for some reason the old number hasn't been allocated to the new SIM at the time of dispatch.

I'm not sure how I've managed this but I appear to have the 100gb without having been charged for the initial pack.

I put the sim in, and it said I was on the £10 pack. Then I topped up by £10, texted for the 100gb, then texted to cancel the £10 pack.

That was yesterday and it now shows that I have 100gb to use (not 101), that I don't have a pack, and that I still have £10 top up credit. So it doesn't reflect any cost/data allowance for a £10 pack, and it looks like I have £10 credit to use in the future.

Probably too good to be true.

I apologise if this has already been asked/answered, but it's such a long thread.

I have received my card (thanks again OP), topped up £10 and all is good. The only thing I'm not sure about is that the terms say that this pack is automatically renewed every 30 days 'but you can cancel at any time'. Does this mean I am going to be charged £10 again in 30 days, if so should I cancel? And if I do cancel, will I lose my 100gb+100gb?

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
usenetz to ezzer72
4 Jun 15 1 #592
1. You can only be charged if you have credit so don't top-up again after the initial £10 to activate this deal.

2. How to stop a pack

You can stop a new pack from starting through My Account on ee.co.uk or the My EE app. Your current pack will continue until it ends or until all the allowances are used up.

Log in to My Account
Click Pack and add-ons in the menu
Under Next pack, click CHANGE or REMOVE.
Or text STOP PACK to 150.
Source: http://ee.co.uk/help/my-account/pay-as-you-go/pay-as-you-go-packs-getting-started

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply usenetz, though I'm still not 100% clear, sorry.

I only purchased £10, but of course EE now have my card details - can they automatically take the next £10, or do they just store them ready for me to actually authorise (if I decide) my next payment?

Also, if I actually stop the pack as per your instructions, presumably I won't get month 2's 100gb?

Sorry to be a pain :disappointed:
usenetz to ezzer72
4 Jun 15 1 #594
Fear not!

As it says on the linked page in my previous message 'You pay for packs out of your credit – so you’re going to need to top up first' and 'we’ll take the cost from your credit'

They hold your credit card details to make it easier next time you decide to top-up.

Cancel as soon as the 2nd 100GB has been added.

Want to see what superfast 4GEE can do? Just top up £10 within 2 weeks to get a whopping 100GB of data to use in your first two months.

Data: Top up £10 within 14 days of getting this SIM to buy your Data Pack then text to activate the 100GB free. 100GB free starts when 1GB in the Data pack runs out and lasts up to 30 days. This happens again in month 2. Services are UK only. Packs recur automatically every 30 days. Opt out at any time. Double speed: select areas only, check 4G coverage at ee.co.uk/coverage. Based on EE test data 2013 (average speeds doubled from 12–15Mbps to 24–30Mbps) and doubling 4G network capacity from 2 x 10MHz to 2x 20MHz. Speeds referred to are download speeds.

Hiya,
When I was in store I was watching their computer screen as they filled in the details . On one of the pages it asks the staff if they'd like to add any free bolt ons. I asked them "oh what free bolt ons are they offering me?".
There's the option to add 2 bolt ons, the first drop down list had 2gb free internet, plus random options called j2,j3,j4. No idea what they were but I asked for the 2gb free internet

what do people think will be the absolute last date to qualify for the 100GB?
The last date for ordering the sim is the 18th June, so could they allow a week (at most) for delivery and then you must top up £10 within a further week so maybe the 2nd July?

6 Jun 15 #622
So I received my limited sim card the first few days when they were available. I got 3 in total with both home and work address and different email addresses.

Here are what I did so far:

1. Put SIM card into my beloved Nokia 105. After a few moments, received text from EE saying "£10 Data Pack" will start as soon as I have topped up £10 and after starting a call/text/data.

2. Bought £10 top up voucher from corner shop. Sent text with the voucher code to 150 to top up, received text from EE saying £10 is now confirmed.

3. Registered a MyEE account on their website. At this point, I can see there is £10 credit on my account and I am still allowed to change to another pack because my "£10 Data Pack" has not started yet.

4. Sent text "100GB" to 150 and got confirmation immediately saying "We have successfully added the 100GB promotion to your account. Thank you." Yippee!!!

5. However, at this point, in my EE online account, my "£10 Data Pack" has not started yet as I believe I had not made any chargeable call/text/data with the sim. Also, I don't see anywhere in my account where it says 100GB data allowance.

http://i.imgur.com/iwzL4bv.png

Here comes 2 questions.

1. Would I need to make a call/send a text/use data first, so it starts the "£10 Data Pack", before I can see 100GB data added to my account? I had the impression that both £10 Data Pack and 100GB data will be visible in my EE account, but seems no... which is worrying me a little bit. I have not started using this limited sim yet as I am still using another EE PAYG sim I bought earlier, will finish the existing one first and switch to the limited sim.

2. Further to my last question... If this is normal, then maybe this will work to delay the start of the 100GB data! Simply top up £10 with the limited sim, ensure you don't start any call/text/data, send text "100GB" to 150 to activate the promotion, remove SIM card. Wait for another 1 month or 2 to pop SIM card back in the phone and you should still have the "£10 Data Pack", and 100GB data queued for another 2 months? If this works, since I have 3 limited sim, I can possibly rely on them for the next 6 months!

That's what I thought but the first thing I did was text 100GB to 150 which I assume is a free text.....I didn't immeditely browse or make a voice call, just texted that code to EE.
I then got a text back confirming 100GB data now applied despite still showing as £10 in credit and no actual pack having been paid for. In fact I cannot even select the 1GB/50mins/50txt pack that is shown on the leaflet that come with my SIM.

I inserted SIM, immedietly topped up online (not on the phone as my android browser wouldn't let me complete the process) then text 100GB to 150. I made no other calls or tested the SIM worked or anything like that before doing this.

Mine has clearly glitched as online it can't display my credit or add on or let me choose any add on, on the EE app I can see credit and the free add on.

OK thanks for that, will give it a whirl... I've had silly problems like this on other Tmobile and EE sims where accounts don't work properly for ages.... not too bothered about this one as I've got the data for the month I need it and £10 is a great price to pay for it... might even get my £5.25 TCB with luck

Hmm can't see any credit in Google account (but not sure what I do to get that) - I just got txt from EE saying 'Welcome., your £10 data pack will start when I call, text or browse......" - so presumabkly as I managed to get the free 100GB before they sent this txt I've got it without using the credit or the pack and as I've not made any voice calls or texts (other than to 150) it hasn't activated. Probably why it doesn't show correctly in web account as it's waiting for me to make a chargeable call/txt but any data use is using my 100GB allowance before it got a chance to use the 1GB from the data pack.

I don't know how but it did, once I'd topped up £10 about 30mins later it's in TCB as pending although it shows the value as £1 not £10 (must be upon activation). I don't expect it'll go through as someone else suggested TBC won't pay on special PAYG sims like this one but I thought there's nothing to lose.

Hey there, I wasn't meant to be a doubter. I asked for a screenshot because by the time I was replying to you, I did not get my 100GB data allowance yet and was curious to see how it looks like on someone's account.

And I have something new to add. The below 2 screenshots should be pretty self-explanatory.:D:D
I wasn't so lucky to still have £10 left as a credit, but I'm close! I managed to change to the £1 text and talk pack so it took £1 off my credit, and I sent a test text so it took another 12p.

So for some reason, my £1 text and talk pack wasn't applied and I still got charged for that test text I sent out. But I am happy as far as I have 100GB to use for each month for the next 2, and afterwards I would still have credit left for other uses!

Gonna try the same trick on my other limited SIM!

Yup. I topped up £10 and sent text to activate 100GB allowance. At this point, I have not yet made any chargeable calls/texts/data so neither the £10 pack nor the 100GB allowance has been used. Hello

I bought the sim for my mifi device and have used the top up card to add £10 credit. How do I activate the 100gb data? My mifi is standard sim and my mobile is microsim so cannot put it in my mobile phone and back into mifi. Is there a way around this problem?

Some Mifi devices let you send & receive texts through the web interface.
Otherwise, pop it in a friend's phone for 2 minutes to send your text.

9 Jun 15 #657
You can get sim card adapters on Ebay for around £1
usenetz to tygar2
9 Jun 15 #659
The microSIM can be popped-out and back into the SIM holder it comes with so can be changed between devices without the need for an additional SIM adaptor.

However, should you want to send the text from the MiFi then:

1. Place the SIM card in the MiFi.
2. Connect your computer using the MiFi WiFi network.
3. Enter 192.168.1.1 on your browser.
4. Enter Settings | SMS Inbox | New message.
5. Send 100GB to 150

That is the menu on mine - yours may be slightly different and if 192.168.1.1 isn't right try 192.168.0.1

Enjoy!

Seems like deal extended to 25th June but appears changed to 100GB for the full 2 months.

10 Jun 15 #666
This is from the current T&Cs, it is still 100GB per month for two months. I would be pretty sure you could get data in August by activating the 100GB at the end of June. It also reads as if the 100GB lasts for 30 days from when it starts but it doesn't start until the original 1GB is used up but that is probably just how I am reading it.

Also reading the last paragraph, if you had a spare one, it would be worth topping it up within the time limit but not using any data and see what happens. I think the text to 150 is free.

"Sign up by 23:59 on 18th June 2015 for a free Limited Edition pay as you go SIM via the EE website, and we’ll give you a UK data allowance of 100GB each month for 2 consecutive months for free.

The SIM also comes pre-loaded with a £10 Data Pack. The pack will start as soon as you’ve topped up £10 then make a call, send a text message or use data. If anyone has an issue trying to top up and it shows the error message
We can't find a mobile number for this account. Please associate one with it

even though you have already logged the sim number then you can add funds via this page which doesnt need a registered account
http://ee.co.uk/ee-and-me/top-up-pay-as-you-go
and it will add the amount to your account

One strange thing I noticed today the money goes into the credit amount on the left and at is brought into the account [right] when the monthly payment is due ergo mine shows £0 [left] and £10/monthly [right].So if I added another £10 it would appear on the left until the monthly due date

ok I might have a problem so posting here in case anybody knows the answer

I did the required £10 top up & sent the 100bg text to get the 100gb allowance/add on

Then in order to try to keep my £10 i sent 'stop pack' & this is where things went haywire

Firstly my online account says
'Sorry, something's gone wrong Could not get credit and pack information'

The EE app is still working saying I have £10 credit
- however while it is also saying I have 100gb allowance it is SAYING I HAVE ZERO DAYS LEFT OF THIS ALLOWANCE ??? - instead of the expected 30 days

I have browsed the internet & used some data so data is available so Im not sure what is happening ?

Have I lost the 100gb by stopping the pack ? - hence the zero days ?

edit : ok looks like I might be OK as when I go to add ons on the app it shows the start date of 18 June & end date of 18 July

please report back on this i.e. if the number of days left of the 100gb decreases even though you havent used the SIM

hopefully the 100gb doesnt activate till you first use some data

i have managed to transfer the £10 topup from the 100gb sim onto my main EE sim so nice result

was half expecting customer serices to say no but went fairly smoothly

I've had 3 or 4 junk texts from EE, usual how to get started, check your balance, how to buy packs etc.

I have it in a 4g usb dongle attached to my router, using it to supplement my 4MB broadband with 15-20MB/sec 4g.

If anyone else is interested: http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/mwan3

keep calm.

seems to me it doesnt activate until you start using sim...see below i topped up on 16 June and added the 100GB then. The screenshots are today 18 June... so i think might be safe to say if you have multiple sims, could be a way of activating offer and saving for later (although they can still deactivate add-on i would imagine). I will optout of the £10 data pack or change my pack to the £1 one before using the sim. Currently using EE osprey on 30 day contract so waiting for this to run out before activating my sim :sunglasses:

Ive added the 100GB allowance to my second SIM so hopefully this wont activate till I use some data

What is also of interest is that its at least 3 weeks since I received the SIM so the '14 day rule' is not being enforced

Put each of the sims I got into a phone, then went and topped up £10 on each card, sent the message and got 2 confirmations that the 100GB addons had been added to each account

Just registered each online and it is showing £10 credit on each but zero data allowance

Does it take a while to update online?

22 Jun 15 1 #719
Well, my first lot of 100 gb expired today and I got a text (amongst others stating to top up) that as a treat I get a 2nd month free of 100gb starting today.
So, the OP was completely right, only 1 original top up required for 2 months of 100gb which is a total of 200gb plus the 1gb thats already on the sim.
Phwoar what a scorching deal this has been.
whymails2000
22 Jun 15 #720
It won't show on the main myaccount screen as you are not yet using the sim. Instead if you go to menu, select "pack and addons", scroll all the way down and clicks on "addons", it will show your free 100GB and valid for 30 days as in their text confirmation.
kingofswords

22 Jun 15 #722

colin7777
24 Jun 15 #723
I have just registered the sim and received txt saying I have £10.00 credit. I have added £10 cash to my topup card, so is the £10 credit automatically transferred from the topup card, I haven't linked it yet but is it automatically linked as it is the topup card that came with the sim?

If the £10 credit is not from the topup card, has anyone tried enabling the 100GB to see if the crdit is used for the 100GB rather than the initial pack.

Has anyone yet worked out if the 30 days 100GB data starts as soon as you text 100GB to 150 or does the 30 days start once you have used the initial 1 GB.

24 Jun 15 #724
Extended to the 30th according to this text I got and something about £10 credit I don't understand

JohnnyUtah
24 Jun 15 #725
Just got that as well.

I hadn't activated mine yet so I presume it is a sweetener to use it.
bayhabourbutcher
25 Jun 15 #726
I do not think the 30 day 100gb allowance starts until you actually use some data so you can defer the time when you use it

I also texted 'stop pack' to keep my £10 which removed the 1GB allowance

Now when i text 'bal' I get a message saying I have £10 credit & 100gb allowance BUT IT DOES NOT SPECIFY A START / END DATE FOR THAT ALLOWANCE suggesting it has not activated yet

I cannot use the EE app to check for a start/end date as that would probably use some data & activate the 100gb allowance - also as soon as you remove the 1GB pack it screws up the online account so you cant check the details there either

On my other 100gb SIM where I am currently using the allowance IT SAYS THE DATE WHEN THE ALLOWANCE ENDS
esspee
26 Jun 15 #727
Me too.

As JohnnyUtah says, sounds like a sweetener to register the sim - free £10 credit for the second month.
esspee
26 Jun 15 #728
Offer definitely ended now, according to website. The free £10 top up for second month is available until the 30th.

Last date to top up and text 100GB to 150 is 13th July.
golo83
29 Jun 15 1 #729
got my 2nd sim card early June and just topped up now... 100GB added fine and shows on my account.
havent used 2nd sim yet and will activate when 1st sim data runs out.
happy days
if all works fine and manage to opt out that works out as 100GB 4GEE data on my EE Osprey per month for 4 months...and should have about £18-£20 credit left still to use after that. :sunglasses:
esspee

I'm on the 15th day of the first 30 days 100GB data allowance, 95GB has been used up already. Will the second 30 days of 100GB start as soon as I finish the first 100GB or I have to wait till the 31st day? Would help me a lot if someone knows the answer.
usenetz
8 Jul 15 #732
You have to wait for the 2nd lot of 30 days.
bayhabourbutcher
12 Jul 15 #733
couple more questions :

1) does anybody know if I defer using this allowance then could it eventually disappear before i get a chance to use it ?

2) am I correct in thinking you just need one chargeable event every 6 months to keep an EE sim active ?
Petetobin
14 Jul 15 1 #734
I have two sims stacked up and ready to go in addition to the one I am using now. Activated them, topped them up and then sent the text from a phone with the data off. They are both looking good on my account ie not started, so I think I have got 6 months of 100GB.

Looking at this date 11months 2 weeks I make that 22nd May that this offer would be on again if they do it this year 2016. held off doing the 25gb 15 gbp deal might take the next one if this glasto sim doesnt materialise.

preecey
11 May 16 #748
I can't see this offer being repeated, honestly.

Out of curiosity, last week I sent texts containing past code words such as DATA100, CHRISTMAS100 and 100GB to 150 using a few SIMs that I still had from their previous promotions.

When sending such codes after the offer had expired I used to get replies like "Sorry, this offer has ended", or "This offer is not available to you". Now the replies I get back are generic, advising me that I need to send codes "BA" to check my balance and "AL" to check allowances. There's no longer any reference to the data promotion.

It's a shame really. I relied on these SIMs, as well as the Vodafone 50GB promo SIMs, to get online at home. I'm currently using a Three AYCE data one month contract SIM with 30GB of tethering to tide me over until hopefully the next promo arrives.
ewaandneil1
11 May 16 #749
Because the promo services are now removed, so if you send an un recognised service word you get the standard help message promoting the services that are available via text.

Thanks for all the comments, now that we think this deal has gone am looking for something I can place in an Osprey in august so I can stream pirate football to my tv via a usb computer linked to the osprey. It seems that the 30gb tethering is a good deal with 3 for 20 GBP. Weve just got 4g with o2 and voda so whats the chance of getting a red data 50gb for a tenner. is the best thing go with three one month rolling till something better crops up. what about giffgaff?
bellamy_47
26 Nov 16 #751
nothing like this around now???
preecey
26 Nov 16 #752
Unfortunately not. The closest temporary SIM with a decent data allowance are the ASDA SIMs with 20GB for a tenner.
