I picked up the 3C before by accident when I was after the normal 3 as the 3 can be flashed with the Padavan firmware (akin to DD/OpenWRT etc). 3C couldn't at the time (still cant I think).
Only 100mb but decent WiFi, I initially configured it as a basic AP but paranoia set in as I couldn't get the Chinese firmware removed  so boxed it back up.
Like the router, minus having only 2x 100mb ethernets (and Padavan flop)

Those slow ethernet ports concern me, it's all very well and good getting ~600mbit/s over wifi to the router but if I can't get more than 100mbit/s from things on the wired network or the internet connection then what's the point?
As is I can see this being useful as a secondary AP for IoT things like my lightbulbs or maybe a printer, but so would a 150mbit N grade AP which'd be cheaper.

Any idea what kind of performance you'd get when using a VPN on it?

No idea, I get between 13-15mbs on my more powerful TPLINK router so I assume this to be either around the same or lower.
I did some reading up on VPNs recently and for anything decent (100mbs+) your looking at an i5 and pfsense.
I went a different route and grabbed a gli.net mini router, set the VPN up on that and use it as a VPNd WiFi AP on a separate subnet. Single Ethernet plugs into a download box to keep everything seperate.
Couldnt afford the speed loss from 200mb to 20mbover VPN for my entire network so separating them was easier.

I literally have the same thing. Gli.net router with VPN.
But it is annoying switch the TV between VPN and my internet connection. If I want to stream 4k Amazon or Netflix then I can't do it via VPN :disappointed:

Good router I got one a while ago, great for the money! GearBest are actually pretty good, a lot better than Banggood! Delivery is just over 2 weeks usually.

You obviously haven't ordered a Jumper Ezbook 3Pro. A good number of us are now understanding why GearBest have a bad reputation. To be fair I think all of these Chinese vendors can be very good or very bad. My own experience with Banggood has been very good. There response to a pricing error was better than expected.
