Important update:
John Lewis has agreed to price-match Box.co.uk at £442.49 (for the platinum version), making it an even better deal.

Thanks to scmk3000 for suggesting price-matching with box.co.uk in his s8/s8+ deal.

Offer details:

Free LG watch style offer is available with a limited list of retailers for specific purchase dates:

John Lewis: 15/08/2017 30/09/2017

Very: 10/07/2017 31/08/2017

Ebuyer: 15/09/2017 30/09/2017

LaptopOutlet.co.uk: 25/08/2017 30/09/2017

MobilePhonesDirect.co.uk : 25/08/2017 30/09/2017

LaptopOutlet.co.uk offer the phone for 464.99 on Tesco Direct. Not sure if the free watch offer applies in that situation however.

***********************************************

Phone details:

Decent phone with dust and waterproofing (IP68).

5.7” Quad HD+ (1440x2880), 18:9 ratio, screen to body ratio: 80.7%, HDR10 & Dolby Vision™

32 GB memory + microSD slot.

Snapdragon 821 chipset - performance should be comparable to Samsung Galaxy S7 I would imagine.

2 rear cameras, standard and wide angle.

2 year warranty (when bought through John Lewis)

The watch also seems to be one of the better Android Wear 2.0 watches.

Appears to be a good deal for anyone on the lookout for a smartphone and smartwatch.

In case anyone is wondering about the LG V30 (i see some people here that are waiting for it) I asked in Carphone Warehouse today and they are due to be available from the first week of November at £799 apparently.

Really liked my G4, but just upgraded to the v20 from wonda mobile. Absolutely cracking value for £300 and superb service. Plus its th last flag ship phone with removable battery, which comes high up my list of priorities.

16 Sep 17 #15
Battery life sucks and the lcd screen is very poor. Camera processing is also quite bad even worst than it was on the G4. The oneplus 3t is a better buy. I got mine from eglobal for £317 about 2 months ago but sold it on as it was a real let down. I hear the v30 fixes all the previous issue so waiting for that.

Anyone who buys a G6 in the UK is nuts. Get the Asian model off eBay for under £400 with more storage and the Quad DAC.
Badongkadong to iehrgeizi
20 Sep 17 #63
And what happens when it breaks down? Send it back to Asian for repairs?
iehrgeizi to Badongkadong
20 Sep 17 #64
If it breaks down. Depends on the seller. Some do 12month warranty etc. I've had no issues in the past myself.
Badongkadong to iehrgeizi
20 Sep 17 #65
It's all down to risk. For me it isn't worth the saving when LG has had questionable reliability such as the G4. I own a G5 so I'm not an LG hater by any means.
iehrgeizi to Badongkadong
22 Sep 17 #66
It was certainly questionable with the G4 and V10 with the bootlooping issues they had. Latest models shouldn't be any riskier than anything else. I barely ever buy a phone from the UK now.
misterleoni to iehrgeizi
23 Sep 17 #67
The main reason they’re cheap abroad is because you’re avoiding tax. Whatever the rights or wrongs of that, John Lewis and others can’t compete with imports where taxes are not paid. You do basically lose any warranty as these grey import companies are not reputable, nor do they particularly care about the laws that govern a particular country. If everyone avoided tax and bought from Hong Kong and other places like that though we basically wouldn’t have a high street and our economy would sink into ruin.
iehrgeizi to misterleoni
24 Sep 17 #70
Well done you for being so patriotic then...
iehrgeizi to misterleoni
24 Sep 17 #71
And just to be clear I was saying this simply because the UK version costs a lot more but you also get less features. If we were talking about the V30 that's out soon it would be a different story.

Does this suffer from a bootloop issue? My LG G4 had this so I'd assumed they would have fixed this in the newer models.

Why would you worry about that if you have a two year John Lewis warranty?

Second this comment, too many LG phones suffer with bootloop issues. My G4 was with repair centre for 2 months, I rang every week and was told to call back the next week, appalling.
dark_shadow to ainsy69
16 Sep 17 #10
Third the comment. LG G4 was by far one of my fave handset to date until it died. LG didn't want to know about it.

Never again LG, out of principle I will never buy from them again.

I was lucky, my phone was rooted and they still covered my bootloop issue under the warranty. They did the same for my sister too who also has a G4.
Robjh to ainsy69
16 Sep 17 #16
I'm sorry but having read your comments above .... You're telling everyone that you Allowed the Repair Centre to keep Your phone for 2 Months...or 56 Days...? And you Allowed them to do this..? Surely after a reasonable Time Span...shall we say 14 Days of Not having your Phone - that was being Repaired - due to their Fault..You didn't take Further Action to either have your Phone back Repaired or Replaced...their is a Compensation issue here that would have been Addressed if it were me...The Small Claims Court & a £25 Summons for starters...I just don't understand how some people tell the world(as you described) and yet don't seem to do much....Come On..
Shard to Robjh

That right there is some weird capitalization, and half way through you seem to move into Pidgin English. Anyway, I doubt an English court has much sway over a Korean company

LG had my monitor for 3 months before ultimately failing to repair it due to discontinued parts and issuing me a refund. However for the entire 3 months I was continually assured that the fix was imminent and it would be back with me soon, had to call them each week only to be fobbed off with another excuse. Easily one of the worst customer services experiences I've ever had with any company in my whole life. I was simply being lied to over and over and the fight I had to put up to get the refund was beyond belief

jaydeeuk1
17 Sep 17 #38
£500. Jesus,, that's a hell of a profit margin.

I had a nexus 5x, promised myself if never buy anything LG branded again. Phone wouldn't switch on and LG tried to claim it was water damage! Never been near water.
tehwabbit to jaydeeuk1
19 Sep 17 #60
If you did the RMA in the UK, that would have been the pirates/pathetic excuses for humans at "SBE Ltd" in Kent, not actually LG. They are a national repair centre for most brands of mobiles and if you RMA you have a strong chance of it ending up there. They completely borked my Nexus 5 which I only RMA'd for a cosmetic issue. They claimed water damage too and then didn't put it back together right!! A look online found that water ingress was a design fault of the N5 and even if it was in a case all it's life, moisture could seep in and void the warranty! LG didn't want to know!

Worst repair company I've ever dealt with (Even worse than eBuyer RMA!)
polarbaba
19 Sep 17 #59
I still like LG, although my g3, g4 and g5 all needed RMA!.
My old Samsung s4 still fine though!.
Looks like my own prejudices are preventing me from seeing the truth that LG aren't actually that great.

Have to agree with many of these comments. The bootloop issue appears to be a fundamental flaw in LG phones and tablets. My old LG Gpad 8 tablet as well as LG G2 phone gets this regularly, the only way to get rid of it was to do a factory reset every few months. I'm planning to install cyanogenmod - or whatever it's called now - on both devices soon.

Was so tempted to ungraded from my first ever LG the G4 which has been awesome. I've gone from a G4 to an S8 as well. There's an app called periscope, on the G4 you could fry an egg on the phone when it was running, the S8 just calmly does it's job :-)

The screen on the G6 is lovely. Can only assume they're part of the 'anything but AMOLED is sub-par' brigade. It's one of the best displays I've seen though.

I don't have my G6 anymore as I gave it to a relative but it's a really nice device, and the idea that it will bootloop just because LG made it is without proof and irrelevant anyway in the case of this deal, since John Lewis would handle any issues under their two year warranty. There would be no need to ever send it to LG.

The worst phone that i ever had!! battery drain like hell and overheat.
GPS will stop working once it gets overheat( as soon as you turn gps on you get overheat), so you have to attache it to air vent. So be prepare to use aircon in winter. So imagine yourself in middle of somewhere busy, gps it stopped working.

The good side:
Fast and smooth, take amazing photos.

LG G5 has a common GPS aerial issue. (Soon to RMA) and g6 is plain and simple a g5 with a different screen resolution. Which I am not willing to pay for. Will see what the g7 looks like!
