I have one of these connected to Alexa powering some LED lights that are hard to get to, its been there for about 8 months at least and I haven't had to touch it once and has never let me down when using Alexa.
I got it for I think £16 at Sainsburys due to a misprice on the shelf which they honoured ages ago so this is a very good price.

How do these work if you normally have these on a timer? Eg I have two lamps on timers in our living room but would quite like to use smart plug. Can I tell Alexa to override the timer and turn them on and off? Do I then have to ask Alexa to put them back on the timer? Thanks!!

Yes.
If you have one on a timer, it will follow that timer unless you turn the schedule off.
I have one that I control with Alexa whenever I want, but it will always turn on for a period of time in the evening.
If you turn it off during the schedule, it will stay off.
If you turn it back on again, it will turn off when the schedule ends.
Exactly how you would want it to operate which is nice.

Use these instead of your timer. In the app you can set your timing routines and leave it to it, just like your current timers.
BUT of course you can also use Alexa/Google home etc to turn on/off whenever you want, and then after that it goes back to its timer schedules.
So treat it like a timer plus a smart plug.

You can use an app on your phone to program a timer.
So it will work like your existing timer
However, alexa can over-ride this
also, you can set up "groups" in alexa, so it can turn off groups of sockets all at the same time
We have two lamps in our lounge
"alexa lounge on" will turn on both
I have a TP link socket and it works well
We have since bought two wasserstein sockets which are about the same price. These have the advantage of having a constantly powered usb socket on the side, so I can power an echo dot with them.
The Wasserstein ones work well with the iphone app and also work well with alexa.
t there is a clickable £2 off voucher on the webpage if you buy 2.
The apps for wasserstein and tplink are both easy to setup and use
Both allow you to turn the plug on and off via your smart phone
both allow you to set up timers on the plug sockets.
The TPlink has an "away mode" so if you are on holiday, you can click this and it will disable the timers. (Wasserstein does not have this feature but personally, I will be using it for lights and will be wanting lights to turn on at night while I am on holiday as a security measure)

Out of curiosity what are people using these for? I'm looking around my apartment now and trying to find appliances I'd want to turn on/off that're simple enough to survive having power turned on/off without caring about their state and I'm struggling. e.g. I have a projector with a hard to reach plug that this'd be good for but it should be allowed to turn off/cool down before unplugging, same with all the computers, some things like the TV don't automatically turn on when plugged in.

Mostly lighting really, good for setting things to come on a timer or turn something on when you phone connects to the wifi (when you get home). You can be quite creative with it but for most people they probably would have no use for it. I'd be wary of using it with anything that draws a lot of power (like an electric heater) as you typically want to turn those on on the device themselves so you don't create a spark.

My TV turns on when using a smart plug. I have one on the slow cooker for remote access when at work. With some prep the night before, you could have your kettle ready with the switch down then activate it upon waking etc.
The app has a timer so you could have it automatically turn the projector off at midnight or a time you know it would have been cooled by.
These are just a few examples.

I have these. they're great. I've got like 5 of them.
I use them for turning things on and off where the plugs are inaccessible.... for example our washer and dryer are on them so the kids can't play with them. They have timers, I often set the fan in my bedroom to turn off after an hour when i'm hopefully asleep... and the holiday/away mode is cool for lighting coming on and off randomly to make people think you are at home.
It's also great for devices you might think you left on when you go out. Not a massive discount but a good price nonetheless, i paid £20 each last year.
Works very well with Alexa too... just shout "Alexa ... turn on the " whatever

Thanks OP. Purchased an Echo on Prime day, and an HS110 which is this plus the energy monitor. I was too late for the HS100 so this is a bonus.
Also available at the same price through Amazon, via Maplin Webdeals.

Bought one of these on Prime Day for £16.19 and it's been great - cursed myself for not trying to get more than 1 then. At £17.49 they're worth the extra £1.30 - ordered 2 for collection from my nearest Maplin. Thanks op!
