Does this update apply to the Huawei P9 Plus? And are we any closer to forecasting a release date?

Just more of the same. It's total BS. To quote @Chris_K "I understand the frustration of waiting for new software but unfortunately with Android, it's not as easy as Google releasing a new version and then being available on all devices immediately (like is the case with iOS)". Your right it's not as easy as iOS but it is a damn sight easier than O2 and Huawei have made it. All the other manufactures (including those with custom Android such as Samsung, HTC etc.) released Nougat months ago. Huawei themselves released the update to the P9 months ago. The only reason this is taking any time is because O2 insist on having unnecessary custom firmware on their devices. If I purchased my device from Three mobile, for example, I would have had the update as soon as it was made available by Huawei (months ago!!!) For @Chris_K to make out it's delayed because of Android segmentation rather than dated O2 policy sounds like they are passing the buck. And once again it's been weeks since your last update to us and all you have had to do was test an already proven update. Nougat was officially released over a year ago now. Google have managed to release a whole other version of Android in that time!

We've said it a thousand times before but if you want timely updates don't buy from o2.
They are invariably the last to release updates as Auntie Mable in the testing dept can only do one phone/one update at a time and she has a lot to test 😛
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

O2 are not the cause for any of these delays. We have received software a few times from Huawei to test, which have subsequently failed our tests. This has nothing to do with us having 'unnecessary custom firmware', bells or whistles. As a phone company we believe customer & user experience and handset security is of utmost importance and we will never knowingly release software that we believe will cause our customers to have a poor experience or reduced security with their phone and/or using it on our network.

I completely get the frustration but it's unfair for the blame to be directed O2's way - our device guys are working as close as they can with Huawei to inform them of the updates failings which is entirely in the interest of experience & security of our customers.

Where are we now?
Yesterday afternoon we received new software to test for the Huawei P9 and P9 Lite. Our team will be testing these rigorously over the coming days to see if the issues have been resolved. If they have, we will press ahead with our approvals.

For the P9 Plus, we expect to receive new software next week to begin testing.

When we have more information to share, hopefully it will be positive, and hopefully it'll be soon. Until then, I hope the above has helped add a bit more context to this delay.

Fair point Chris, so does that mean everyone with an unbranded phone are having problems now, as they already have their updates?

Alas, this isn't something we're able to comment on - we only have visibility of the software we've received and tested. It's possible that others may not have an issue with the problems we found, simply didn't discover it themselves, or perhaps received slightly different software which didn't have the same issues (think of these a bit like iOS 'carrier updates' - these files differ slightly from network to network to ensure the device functions correctly on that network)

I've got some good news from our device team, folks!

We've now approved the Nougat update for the Huawei P9 and P9 Lite and have sent this back to Huawei for schedule/release - typically this happens within 1-2 weeks, but sometimes sooner/later, so keep your eyes peeled and you'll hopefully have this soon.

P9 Plus customers, no new updates to share just yet - we're awaiting the new software to begin testing but once we've more details to share, we'll let you know.
