According to the European Emission Standards (Euro 6c), the particulate matter limit is 0.0045 g/km for a GDI engine equipped vehicle (Demuynck et al., 2017). Most of PFI engines have PN levels below the Euro 6c PN limit, while GDI engines present more challenges in meeting legislation such as Euro 5–6 and China 5–6.
