I have a C-Tek for looking after our caravans leisure battery during the winter months, but these are basically the same thing ...only a lot cheaper!
Because they have intelligent pulse charging at different rates, it's even been able to revive an otherwise totally dead spare, impressive.

Here's the details...

Intelligent microprocessor control with diagnostics programme and controlled charging process
With reverse polarity, short circuit and overload protection as well as pulse charge for flat batteries
Suitable for most 6V and 12V car or motorcycle batteries with a 1.2 - 120Ah capacity
4 variable charging rates (Max. 3.8A)
Operating voltage: 220 - 240V ~ 50/60Hz

Remember, this will be available from 2nd October and will probably go quick at this price.

I have this and it works great. but if your battery is absolutely flat then this might not detect it, which means it won't switch on and start charging it. I had to put an old style charger on first simply to get some voltage in then swapped them over and this one then recognised it.

Forgot to add to post, 2/10 is their Car Care event, so lots of other bits & pieces as well eg Trolley Jack @ £19.99, but the charger is really the best buy of the lot.

Does anyone know if this pulse method charge a completely flat battery? I have a very similar Aldi one and because it is clever and auto detects 6v or 12v it wont charge anything that is less than a couple of volts.
  8. veedubjai's avatar
No doubt Aldi will be doing this soon after Lidl as usual.

I have this charger and it will not function if the battery has lees than 6volts.

I threw my last one away because it wouldn't work, turned out it was the battery all along. Was not impressed, but have learnt from that mistake!

This will function in exactly the same way as an Aldi one,so if that won't recover a flat battery this almost certainly won't either.

I have this from last year and its great. I look after a 2003 Jag XJ8 with a massive original battery....before, every two weeks it was flat...charged it with this and its been fine every since.

Cars don't give a battery a full charge which is why this is so useful.

I use it on my car most weekends as Skoda (same in Audi and VW too) decided in their wisdom that a 61aH battery was adequate in their new 2.0TDI CR engines....It isn't in the winter!
  13. deleted1138265's avatar
Obviously if the battery has less than 6volts, let alone if it's flat, it will need more that the maximum of 3.8Amps that this little charger can provide. I also have a larger (at 3x the size and 2x price) charger of 6Amps that can handle flat batteries.

For me, this little Lidl charger is perfect for size+price.

Just has a voltage display. My Dad has one - has exactly the same functions apart from that.... and was the same price or within £1

I got one of these last time they were on offer. Used it once and it killed my battery, so had to buy a new one. Not used it since, may have just been unlucky as it normally gets good reviews.

Can it be used for motorcycles batteries when they are stored over winter?
  19. 2o2o's avatar
If a battery has less than 6v you can still get these things to charge by using a second battery or even a regular 9V it will detect the voltage then start charging you don't need it connected for more than a second but if a battery has less than 3v dont charge it its not worth the risk.

Yes, it can, even has m/bike setting

You have to give a bit of charge on the flat battery first! Then the charger will work.

    I have done it before.

Contradicts my experience of weekly use for 12 months...

Yours may have been awful but putting out a broad statement saying these are awful is incorrect. This is a bargain for an intelligent charger and I believe that it has 3 years warranty...I would have to check the box on mine.

Because the battery may be ok. If you do short journies every day like some people do then this wont allow the battery to charge, putting increased load on the alternator. For £14 this is a great bit of kit to boost your battery, keep a weekend car, a summer bike or a leisure battery topped up.

You can just leave it plugged in and it will feed a trickle charge once fully charged.

They don't work if the battery is too flat!

You have to charge the battery a bit...

Within reason, AFAIK, Yes.Once my caravan is in storage I shall keep the leisure battery on charge until about February, worked great last year.Admittedly I have the C-Tek, but this one works in exactly the same way as other intelligent chargers, only difference is, my C-Tek was about £40, so I may buy this as well to do the spare.
