Well I regret installing that, didn't realise it would show total spent on steam. Very depressing moment....

If I add £25 to my steam wallet by paying with paypal I will immediately see something in paypal crediting me £5? It's just that this bit in the T&C has got me worried:The Offer shall not be available if the aggregate monetary amount credited to customers reaches GBP 24,000.00.The Offer excludes gift voucher payments and gift card purchases and purchases not made through your PayPal account.

Yes, it works - I used this about half an hour ago. You'll just see the net amount deducted in your PayPal account and there's an intermediate confirmation page where you should see the offer shown as being applied, once logged in to PayPal.

By the way, if you want to buy £20 credit direct from steam, and you don't want to use the browser extension mentioned elsewhere here, you can just go to the normal steam wallet fund page : store.steampowered.com/ste…nds

and then enter this in your browsers console (F12 if you have chrome) :

    javascript:submitAddFunds( 2000 );

Problem is there doesn't seem to be an option to add £20 wallet funds? Mine only shows £4, £10 and then £25, £50, £100. I don't really want to get £25 as it lessens the deal a bit as you are buying more than necessary for the £5 back. Is there anyway around this e.g. can you buy two £10? I'm guessing not as it seems to want to take me straight to checkout on picking an amount.

The steam interface is so bloody restrictive in some regards, surely I should be able to add any amount I like to my wallet?

There are 2 thoughts on this. Firstly most of us already have a lot of what they're flogging cheap so much of the appeal is gone. Also, the flash sales had to go when they started offering refunds.

Agreed. Still, their prices surely are less competitive than they used to be, of that I'm confident. At least theres still Humble Bundles, and Bundlestars.

What was the point of the daily and flash sales though, really? They just reduced everything to the lowest prices on the last day anyway, so no one would miss out, so now it's just like that except you can get the lowest prices on the the first or any other day of the sale instead of waiting - no messing around, no worrying whether a game is as cheap as it's going to get, because it already is.
Also, the £5 offer does not mean the sale prices could be lower, it's just an incentive to get you to top up. The sale prices will be set by the developers, because obviously they want to be left with some money after Valve takes their cut.

On new AAA games, sure, Steam is usually a rip-off, but in the sales there's still some games at lowest ever prices, and plenty of other games at competitive prices.

Surely this offer must come back? Hardly seems fair an offer supposed to be good till 4th jul is gone by 21st june?

Also what about those that saved the offer, will it still work for us e.g. is it reserved? Or not?

I had a feeling that might happen and that's why I told everyone in the OP to add the coupon to their PayPal account yesterday. That £23k will probably be based on value of coupons redeemed and not those actually used for purchases.

You still get 90% off on loads of titles. It all depends on the game, how new it is and how well it's currently selling, but it's very rare that a game will go on sale with less discount than the previous sale. The flash sales were just to generate excitement, they weren't cheaper.

The psychological effect of flash sales.
But if you ever want to check whether a game is as cheap as it gets, you could always use steamprices.com to tell you when it was last on sale, at what price, and the cheapest it's ever been in the Steam store, or there are browser plugins like Steam Inventory Helper which will give you the cheapest ever and current cheapest price, checking a few (but not all) key sites as well as the store.

PayPal have now officially tweeted that the offer has reached its cap but that we should "Watch this space for more great PayPal promotions" (which I guess doesn't necessarily mean Steam offers).

It's a bit shady that they've deleted all previous tweets mentioning the offer, almost as if they didn't want anyone to know about it! And apparently it was capped at £24,000, or 4,800 users, which is a bit ridiculous considering Steam has over 125 million active users.
