Lynx/Axe have done an Oud!

I suppose it was only a matter of time, but Lynx have finally jumped on the niche bandwagon with the release of three 'fine fragrances'. Of sorts.

Retailing at just £4 each for 100ml in Boots in the UK, the Lynx Daily Fragrance range still come in familiar metal cans, but these are smaller, more tastefully labelled and, most crucially, are natural pump sprays, not the aerosols we're so used to. There are instructions on the bottle to apply the juice to the neck, chest and wrists, and Lynx also claim up to four times as much fragrance than in their regular deodorants. Having sampled them I can attest to that. I noted good projection and longevity of five hours (and counting) from a single pump. It looks like Lynx are growing up!

The three new scents are Oud Wood and Dark Vanilla, Tobacco and Amber (not Cacao as the picture seems to suggest), and Iced Musk and Ginger. All three were pretty solid, wearable fragrances that wouldn't smell out of place emanating from a designer flacon. In fact, I bought the Oud on the spot.

While not terribly oud-y, it does have a warm, spicy woodiness, underlaid with smooth almost chocolatey vanilla that keeps me going back for another sniff time and again. Think D&G The One Gentleman stirred into a vanilla shake. Any trace of agar wood is fleeting and seems to peel away with the top notes unfortunately, but that's not to be unexpected at this price.

Try these if you can fellow Basenoters, or just buy all three blind because, if nothing else, they're worth every penny of four quid.

Maybe I'll give these a try - some of these body sprays actually do smell better than some fragrances I have smelled.

Cacao and Amber sounds interesting. Possible Dior Homme Intense rip-off?
Although it's Cacao and Amber in the picture, it was actually Tobacco and Amber on the shelf. I only briefly sniffed that one but I didn't get any DHI either way. I remember it being a smooth, sweet and inoffensive amber, with a hint of baccy and probably good glug of vanilla for good measure.

These ones aren't even body sprays (no gas) and are at least EdT concentration. Definitely worth a sniff!

Are these available in the States (Axe)?

Yes, I saw them at Target just last weekend. In fact, I thought perhaps they'd been out for a while and nobody was buying the oud hype because there were so many of them compared to the others, but perhaps they just got them in. Didn't really bother to smell it, though.

EDIT: they were the deodorant sticks, not sprays.

I saw these in the supermarket a few weeks ago. I didn't bother buying them. Was waiting to see how long it would be until the cropped up on here. I never really payed much attention to them and never tried to smell them. The one that sounded most interesting to me was the Oud & Vanilla.. I wasn't even quite sure what they were to be honest. I assumed like an Eau de Cologne sort of spray. I'll probably give them a closer look next time I'm in now that I've seen this thread.

Yep, this news had been reported in at least one other thread a while back...but thanks for the nudge!! I keep meaning to give these a test run. Both the Oud and Tobacco ones were on my radar.

As an aside, I recently discovered a range of deodorants/ body sprays in Spain and was hugely impressed. Though not marketed as dupes, they undoubtedly are. I was most taken by the one that's a deadringer for Spicebomb. At around a Euro each, they are beyond cheap!! Needless to say, I stocked up!!

It was actually my friend who alerted me to their release but his local Boots had completely sold out.

I haven't seen these in body spray form yet in the US, but I have seen them in deodorant stick form. Sniffed the oud one, and I wasn't impressed.

Do any retailers in the US have them in body spray yet? Haven't seen them at either of my usual two grocery stores (Walmart or Kroger) yet.

It's all coming back to me now. I saw the "pump deodorant" part and that was another thing made me pass them by. I didn't realise they were to be worn like a EdC as the picture would suggest. It's difficult to make it out from the picture but I gather it says "neck" "body" and "wrists". So I assume you use them like you use a deodorant.. but also like an EdC/EdT spray.. A somewhat strange yet interesting concept. Can't be bad at £4 each!

I really get the feeling that they're not selling this as as deodorant at all, but as a casual fragrance. Sure, it recommends applying to your 'body', but then who doesn't spray a squirt of even their nichest fragrance to their chest?

The word deodorant doesn't appear anywhere on the bottle.

Hmm, I see that now.. Thanks. I was just going off the Boots "pump deodorant" thing in the sign, I think it was billed as "deodorant" in the supermarket I was in also.

I'll check tomorrow and see if I can get them anywhere. If Boots are doing them for £4 each it'd be rude not to.

It looks like Axe has upped its game as they look interesting. One good thing with deodorants is you get to do the all over body spray and know it won't be too offensive.
