Power, Temperature and Noise

Sadly, it isn't all good news. The fly in the Radeon RX 480 ointment tends to be either power consumption, temperature or noise. The Asus interpretation isn't overly thirsty and temperatures are kept to comfortable levels, but noise output is much higher than we'd like. Our logs reveal that the Dual OC fans hit speeds of over 2,300rpm, transforming our near-silent test machine into a crescendo of noise.

It is possible to manually adjust the fan profile using various software utilities, but we are often left to wonder why Radeon cards aren't configured to be as refined as the competition. The Asus RX 480 might be the better performer in most of our games, but the GTX 1060 is smaller, more efficient and considerably quieter. Question is, are those attributes worth paying extra for?
