Seasonal Christmas set 40205 first look

Posted by ,

BrickVibe on Facebook has already obtained 40204 Pilgrim, and he just revealed today the back of the instruction booklet which features a sneak peek of the Christmas set (40205), containing two of Santa's elves working hard on new toys. We can only guess that it will be available in November exclusively at LEGO Brand Stores and online.

What do you think of it? It looks less creepy than the last couple of Seasonal sets, that's for sure!

That Elf is worthy to wield MJOLNIR!

^ I grew curious while looking at that piece too - is this its first appearance outside of Marvel Super Heroes?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

@thebrickpal think it was in monster fighters as well if I remember correctly.

By in Netherlands,

^TheBrickPal, the 'mjolnir' part appeared in two Monster fighters sets previously way back in 2012 when it was first introduced.

As for the set itself... Their creepiness is only reduced by 15% or something. These still look weird, but it might be the crossed eyes and weirdly dark shadows on the 'in the flesh' pic and the black trim of the box. But I think they look somewhat creepy despite all that.

Wow, the seasonal sets this year are so weird! Not thrilled about the holiday train either (since I already have the older version). Usually I get really excited about the holiday sets right about this time, but this year has been a bust for me so far.

By in United States,

This year's holiday promotionals have left me traumatized.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why does the elf on the right look like he whacked himself a few too many times with the hammer in the head?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I quite like the Halloween Vampire, but the Pilgrim is...um...weird, and these elves are beyond weird! At least this makes the Christmas Train (or whatever it's called) all the more affordable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looking at the thumbnail, I thought those elves were turkeys at first...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not sure how I feel about this set. It may be one of those that looks a little different up close and personal as opposed to the pictures.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Last year's holiday sets were far superior imo, but I think it's great that Lego keeps coming up with new things. Roll on next year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@myscrnnm I had the exact same reaction. I had to do a double take when it mentioned elves.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Uggh...awful

I loved the 2015 seasonal sets and eagerly collected them all, but I haven't bought any of this year's seasonal sets. They should have made them proper Miniland figures, as you'd find at Legoland. Somehow those manage to avoid being so creepy.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

They're slightly less creepy ... but I don't think it looks very good, to be honest. I totally loved last year's seasonal sets, I thought they were amazing. But this year, the brick-built figures just don't look great. I haven't bought any of them, and I doubt I'll pick up these ones either.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't like these seasonal sets nearly as much as the ones from the last few years. They were so charming, with little bits of the holidays. These are strange and a little too odd to be cute or whimsical...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have been thoroughly underwhelmed with the ALL the holiday offerings this year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Comes with handy axe and bucket, to end the suffering of all Lego elves...

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^ I didn't say it wasn't still creepy; just a bit LESS creepy.

Though I'd be lying if I didn't say that in my opinion they do have some cutenss to them...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I wasn't attracted to any of the seasonal sets...and this one just makes me beckon more and more for last years'. I eagerly await the new year and hopefully is a turn away from this years' format.

Just one word for these. UGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

By in United States,

I am afraid nothing can beat last year's Christmas freebie, "the Gingerbread House 40139" giveaway. I remember reading an article on brickset recently about the Gingerbread House. Yesterday I dug it out of storage, and kind of starting my Christmas decorations a wee bit earlier this year :-)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

My eyes!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmmm. Well, certainly not nightmare fuel (I'm [not] looking at you, Geoffrey) but not all that great either. I'll pass.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The elves look like a sad, possibly enslaved by Santa Lego version of Beaker from the muppets. Why do they look so sad?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Table & chairs look cute. Maybe we could rearrange the two big eyes elves into more Christmas presents under the tree.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The last two years had seasonal sets and Christmas sets that I thought were great looking. This year's have all been poor in my opinion, and I won't be going out of my way to get them like I usually do.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can we please stop these sets?

Every year I look forward to buying the seasonal sets for my kids, but this is the first year in the last eight that I have not purchased a single one. Sad.

Vote with your money - keep it in your wallet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That is just awful. I really wish they would stop making these creepy things.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO needs to make a new tile piece for eyes that are next to each other, this and the nutcracker would be a lot better with new eyes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@TheBrickPal The mjolnir piece was also used this year in NINJAGO.

Anyways, like I've stated before, I don't know why they discontinued the types of seasonal builds that they did last year, because those were great and sold out pretty fast. With these brick built figures LEGO seems to be losing money, as the past couple years I've gotten at least a couple of seasonal builds, but this year I haven't gotten any and I don't plan on it. I've heard the same thing from other people.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hm... looks like these little guys ain't getting much love around here. I like them. I think they are very cute, and also offer options for further customization. I take these guys any day over the Vampire or the Pilgrim/Witch/Scarecrow.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The shadows make this look oddly sinister to me...

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

For a moment I thought someone misspelled some words as "MJOLNIR"... until I googled it.

How do you even pronounce it? "Mee-junior"? "Join-near"? "Joe-knee"?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ I think it's "Me-yole-near"
Don't take my exact word for it though...

Gravatar
By in United States,

That "brick heads" aesthetic is truly freakish. A throwback to the style of brick-built figures.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like that TLG tried to break from the mold of their usual seasonal offerings.

On the other hand, this looks like 200 pieces for me to sort. :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Something about these things make me feel uncomfortable... maybe its the eyes... or the bowties... or the fact that one of them is wielding the most powerful hammer in all of existence...

Nah, that last part just sounds totally amazing! I deem them worthy!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finding these seasonal sets this year so odd! Not a fan of these brick built weird creatures, spoiled by the vignettes last year. Oh well, I do feel thankful to not be wanting everything Lego is coming out with, not having to rush to get certain sets all year long.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

We don't need the same style vignettes every year, who knows what they might do next year.. So just don't buy it these if you don't like them. So much bloody whining every single time one of these has been shown, some of us don't care about the vignettes either and no doubt there would be more moaning if those were re-released every year to! Sometimes I think that's what the AFOL community do best!!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Wow, I just noticed the axe and the bucket.

Okay, we're back up to super-creepy. Well, it is for Christmas, and as they say ...

... you better watch out.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

So am I getting this right, there won't be giveaway sets this year like the Gingerbread House or the small Christmas train from last year? Surely not, as I thought 40223 would fit that area.
Or are they replacements for the so-called "vignettes" of former years? I sure hope the latter, as I don't care for these anyway, but in general I don't get Lego's fascination of late with these creepy buildable figures - while at the same time ending Mixels.
Hey, there's a thought - why not end Mixels with a Christmas themed tribe? The "CHRISTMIX" tribe ;-)

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

@AustinPowers: check out set 40223, that is one giveaway we will definitly get in Europe. I also hope to see the countdown calendar in Europe.

As for this set: is it a freebie or a seasonal vignette?

Gravatar
By in United States,

So 2013 was a mixture of both the vignettes and brick built things. 2014 was brick built and was all around pretty good. 2015 was more of vignettes and was pretty good. This year I have gotten all of the brick built and have liked them, looking at the last two and also the toy soldier ornament I like what is coming out. both the Thanksgiving and the Christmas ones are pretty cute in their own weird way. They are not as good as the ones from 2014, but they are still going to be gotten when they come out.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For a moment there I thought this was one of the Christmas 'limited edition' sets. Thankfully it's not! God it's scary. I won't be buying it, that's for sure!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

is there a Stewie and Brian to go with these?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The elves should have been yellow. No LEGO is just racist for not having a black elf.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I see... an ax in a bucket... and some crazy looking elves. Why is it that LEGO changes the rotation of the eyes from the box art in the picture to the side of it? They did it with the pilgrim, and it made it look more creepy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can't think of anything good to say about them....
Although I am sure some people will like them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's the noses. They're terrifying.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Brilliant saved me some money that is horrible what were they thinking

Gravatar
By in United States,

I honestly would never buy this, it just doesn't fit with the kind of sets I usually buy ( and its kinda creepy to).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like it could be fun to build, but still. Creepy. Much more excited for the toy soldier.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Noses should be pointed and why is there an AX? that just makes it all the more creepy.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I thought the elves are pigs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think me meant more creepy . . .

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think creepy is the holiday theme for Lego this year

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like a couple of "Honkers" from Sesame Street.

Gravatar
By in United States,

AAAAAHHHHH!!!! Don't do this to me! I haven't had my coffee yet!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Crap...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Another one I won't be wanting...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These are weird. And scary. I guessing there is someone at lego who really doesn't like 'the holidays' and is taking some sort of strange revenge on people who are full of holiday spirit!!
