Won't be for everyone but as an emergency phone or one for the parents this seems just the ticket. Grabbed one for my mum for whatsapp, music via Bluetooth etc and one for the boot just in case.
Might suit someone.

Band20 is a 4G frequency. As mentioned this is a 3G mobile. Maybe leave the "No Band20" comment off and ridicule person who tries "No Band20"?

I was messing with the no band20. Waiting for the Chinese phone doom mongers to pop in to tell us why we shouldn't buy..

Any ideas on their update handling? My experience with the cheaper Doogee, Homtom Vodafone, Motorola, Alcatel on their updates is poor. Xiaomi seems much better but I struggle with Miui. Nokia claims their intent to do so. In the days ahead, regular security updates would be my baseline requirement.

Last update for the A7 was 14/08/17 bbs.blackview.hk/vie…557 wouldn't expect many updates at the price point.

My dad has the Blackview E7 which is pretty much this phone with a fingerprint sensor at the back and I check updates for him personally and no updates have been recieved for over a year now. I don't know what issues you have with MIUI, but I have none. Try the global beta / china beta depending on the CPU you have in your phone. Weekly updates are pretty neat

Well... I've had a Redmi 3S for more than a year now. I love the battery, the specs are perfect and build quality is nice.
But I find it absolutely atrocious that Xiaomi shipped Redmi's (+Note's) with a part-defect phone function! The problem: the noise cancellation apparently distorts and interrupts my voice to a point that the other person cannot understand me unless I shout into the mic. This was/is a well known issue, it also affected Redmi 4(X)'s and there is no definite solution in their forums. So how/why would a big company NOT properly test the primary function of a phone?!
Personally I also cannot update my Redmi 3S to MIUI v8 anymore, as it goes into a bootloop. Tried OTA update, fastboot update, etc. I wasted days of my life. No help in the forums.
But which other phone could I get? There is simply no other phone if you want a 4000mAh battery and a 5" screen for £200-£250 (or even more)!

Any idea how much duty, if any, would be payable on this

Pretty sure you'd be OK. Just select PostNL for shipping and maybe dropship which (I think) means no company branding on the package. Coming with a Netherlands post label doesn't attract the wrong attention. That said, they are painfully SLOW!

Thanks, its good to know how have Blackview handled updates.
As for Xiaomi, my issue with MIUI is I prefer a stock Android. Yes, I changed it to Google Now Launcher. I have tried to get Google Assistant working on my Xiaomi on the standard non Developer ROM but I cant get it to send SMS text handsfree or interact properly with it. Somehow this worked well on my Doogee running Android 5.1. I mean sending SMS handsfree but have not got it to work in reading SMS to me handsfree.
Can this Blackview run Google Assistant?

I think the problem may be with the Android version your MIUI is running with. Tell me your phone and it's android version and I'll do some research.

Tonight, I also after downloading Allo have got two Google Assistants trying to interact with me together or perhaps, Google Now and Assistant. I think they talk to each other and sometimes I can get in a word or two. I do hear the American lady with 'Eew yuck' undercurrent "I cant help you with that."
Have given up and bought the Xiaomi Mi A1.
Also, my model is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Global 3/32GB aka mido as you requested via About phone.

I'd recommend flashing the Global Beta in your case. Try out the new MIUI 9, see if they fixed it.
Another very good recommendation if you're going to do that is to flash TWRP and make a backup just in case so you can backroll update if you don't like it.

I will try this route first. I will contact AlieExpress first. Contact Barclaycard otherwise. Then flash route as you suggested.

In reply to jomay's "Which other phone could I get?"
There is some new Motorola with 5k battery? The Xiaomi Redmi 4A my mum has works well for 80 quid and great battery life. There is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A with poss 4k battery? [but a 5.5 inch screen, oops] Any more straws to clutch?
