It's a bit like what has happened to Man Utd, now cheap reduced quality under a brand of yesteryear

I agree (although one of mine still stinks) - my problem with this method is that you get a Blaupunkt and a Sharp TV that are the same thing, same casing, different logo yet one costs £100 more as "it's a Sharp" and anyone over 35 remembers them being a good brand in the 80's. Customers are tricked into thinking they are getting a better TV by buying a "semi-premium brand of yesteryear" such as Toshiba, Hitachi, Sharp etc.

I remember when Toshiba went hand in hand with quality, innovation and leading edge. Not any more. :disappointed:
Called Toshiba recently, they said they have not made and not going to make tv's for sometime to come and they do not even know nothing about specs of this particular model

It's a Toshiba sold in the UK and presuming it's not a Grey import it'll be made by Vestel

OP Toshiba is smart though possibly not 3D. I thought you were suggesting the Panasonic might be better built, it won't. Assuming the 3D is of use to you then...

Toshiba is Smart, 3D and brand new... vs refurbished Panasonic

The Panasonic which has been on here recently is the same size and price and is also a Vestel. However it's also Smart and has 3D.

There is a right obsession with 4k and cheap 4k TV at that on here for sometime now. I'd personally rather buy a smaller screen, non 4k, decent Samsung, LG or Sony model of TV. 4k is no big deal.
Yeah at the risk of sound snobby I really see Panasonic and Toshiba as both being undesirable. Just an Alba+ or whatever other cheapo brand.

Surely the Panasonic equivalent is a better deal?

Why? Vestel manufacture TVs, other companies buy them with the appropriate badge stuck on. This 'Toshiba' will be the same as the 'Panasonic'.
I'm not against cheap TVs, I have an issue with the misleading nature of this stick on profiteering.

I'm struggling with understanding the problem with most famous TVs manufacturers including respectable ones being made in turkey. Without wanting to start a big thread on this apple products are made in China and Samsung in Korea so what?
Gkains to Dr_Lovegod

South Korea is a fair bit different than China with an average just below Finland's versus China's which is just above Mexico's (#10 vs #57): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_average_wage#International_Labour_Organisation_.28ILO.29_statistics
The difference between things made in China for a company like Apple is that their products are made to their design, whereas Vestel are the designer and manufacturer for these TVs, and whatever brand mark the slap on is just a badge.
And Vestel have demonstrated again and again that their designs are poor with poor quality control.
There's this forum for electrical repair people dedicated to bad electronics called http://badcaps.net and they have plenty of threads about these Vestels. Only glanced at a few of those threads but it usually goes with something like this: someone points at that yet another 'brand' has licensed their name to Vestel; people have a good moan telling stories about the amount of poor Vestels they personally have to deal with; eventually someone points at that at least this will mean more repair business.
It's getting to the stage that only three brands actually make only their TVs AFAIK: LG, Samsung and Sony. And caveats apply to all three of these: Samsung have made a number of appearances on badcaps for using cheap capacitors (I assume this is critical in the power delivery or any other part of the TV which gets hot, but I know a lot less about this than for PC power supplies) LG with their 4K TVs seem to be using new panels with a RGBW dot patterns which they don't really have 3,840 dots across as conventional panels do. Sony doesn't make its own panels anymore AFAIK just buying them Samsung, AUO etc.

All this selling out to Vestel is an absolute disgrace. I hope manufacturers understand the long tern damaging affect to their brands. :disappointed:

They don't care they probably make 50% of the money they used to with 5% of the effort and costs required. It will take a generation to realise what is going on but when they do the money-makers/stock holders will be gone and won't care. My worry is the car business will take up the idea then we are all doomed.

is 50hz good for this size tv?

50hz is also good for the £20000 latest very large screen in the market. 24/50/60hz is in reality the real standard to watch movies and we suppose to switch off all the crap that comes with any tv to enjoy a proper colorful picture
