You have to download the Prime app to your phone and sign up to the service (only sign up for the 30 day free trial and cancel later). This includes free 1 hour delivery BUT NOTE there is a £2 driver tip added automatically at the checkout. You can amend this as necessary.

I cancelled Virgin about a month ago. they will call you on the number that you have registered on your virgin account so make sure you have a mobile number as well as your landline as they called me during the day. I was offered landline + weekend/evening calls + Large TV package + 100M broadband for about £40pm. I think the call was 4-5 days after I cancelled.

Its crazy.. you effectively have sky for a year (entertainment pass) at £40 !!! that's what I've been doing and I'm completely happy with it and most of the box sets come back so if you've missed say the knick or boardwalk empire it's brilliant and the new update tells you what's good on catch up (bbc ect) :-) definitely wouldn't sign back up with sky .. They don't look after there customers

Sky will quickly offer you discounts when you cancel- you may in some circumstances have to wait until it is turned off, but normally they will come back before- if they do, don't accept the first offer. You will get it for £30 a month again I have little doubt. Record the call though as twice I had them promise me something then backtrack- the ones who call you to get you to resign up are on commission and cannot be trusted. In the end Sky would not agree with me they had offered me HD (which they definitely had) so I insisted they get the call recording - which they then claimed they had lost. Told them to get stuffed and have not been a Sky customer since, more fool them.
simonspark to Edward_Teach

give them a call speak to cancellations and they will put the price down to 30 again, they only want you to sign another 1year contact. Nowhere cheaper than that. I just done the same.

Is there any way to record content from one of these?
NCIS to Chef_uk
28 Mar 16#228
No, I don't believe there is.
The HDMI cable uses HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection), a copy protection scheme to eliminate the possibility of intercepting digital data midstream between the source to the TV.
I think the Now TV box also contains a video (yellow), audio left (red) and audio right (white) cable connection which you could connect to a DVD/HD recorder. But it will probably also have a copy protection system.

You could buy an A/V adapter for the older white box but it would only output in NTSC via the A/V plug (doh!) There is no A/V connector on the new black box so an HDMI to A/V converter is needed and the one I got off ebay does not work on it (but does from my tablet)

The code is on a piece of card. It says 1,2,3...Go now tv entertainment pass on one side, the other side has a scratch off panel over the code. It could be someone has bought it, removed the voucher and returned the unit for a refund, Argos are pretty slack checking returns.

Prime streaming has been going for over 3 years - longer if you call it by its original name - Lovefilm. Box sets change, just like they do with Sky's subscription, Fox has been running them from the beginning tho.
Yes buying these boxes with these offers is beating the system, playing it is winning it- Sky and Virgin prefer those who just pay month in month out and don't question it, they are the ones who pay for the content they buy.
Amazon Prime will probably never clean up, they can't even beat Netflix at the same game - they are like Google, too large to actually concentrate on putting everything in place that works for everyone.

But this here works out at about £3.40pm for entertainment and £5 for movies. All I do is wait for deals like this to come up so for half the year I don't bother with NOW. So they might as well tie me into a 1 year contact for a little less than £8.40...they are quids in and I might just stick around! Anyway a bigger better Amazon Prime will eventually clear up and the point will be mute!
BTW...I can only see Season 1 of GoT on NOW...am I looking in the wrong place?

Technically though my pc is capable of watching live tv and I don't need a licence for that its just its intentionally worded in a way to confuse people.
Even my phone can get the Iplayer app so if I didn't own a tv but it was capable you need one.
There was that court case years ago where BBC failed to change the system to need a licence to own a phone because its "capable" its just unclear on the app side of things.

Because it's Sky and that would be commercial suicide to do so! Passes expire usually after about two years depending how old the stock is. If you scratch off a pass and contact Now TV on their live chat once you quote the code they will confirm the expiry date. You can add a new pass in the last month of an exsisting pass, ie 6 month entertainment passes can be added every 5 months

That might be what they say but trust me it isn't. I dare say the vouchers won't work in say 3 or 4 years time but they can't offer 12 months from manufacter and say valid up to 12 months from purchase.
Btw Sony also claim that PSN vouchers are only valid for 12 months from sale, I activated a 2 year old one to pay for this year's PS+ as they took the money out of my account last year before I got chance to add the code.

Anybody cancelling sky once out of contract should get 50% discount from retentions, phone them up and cancel, they may offer a discount, if its less then 50% go ahead and cancel (you can always cancel the cancel), ensure they have your contact details as they usually come back and offer a deal to stay within a few weeks, it just a game of chess.

White box has had its UI updated in the past 6 months that may have helped but I can't say I've ever noticed an issue. It is possible that the box didn't get on well with your router too, the black box has much better WiFi capabilities apparently as well as 1080p for streaming (now TV is still stuck at 720p) plus a Micro SD slot (or might be USB, can't remember) and Ethernet connection.
jco83
23 Mar 16#61
Oh right. Well when I first got one of the original white boxes and tried watching a film on sky movies it was terrible. Considerably worse than SD. BBC iPlayer didn't look so bad, but Sky Movies werr unwatchable. There was no problem with our Internet connection or speed.

brookysm
23 Mar 161#32
I've cut the cord with Sky this month, worked out that the only stuff we watched on Sky was covered with the Now TV service that I got my step daughter for her room so have cancelled Sky. Picture quality is excellent, plenty of catch up services so won't miss Sky+ and I've sideloaded Plex onto ours too which works similar to how Sky Q works with your 'recordings'.
If the new box with Freeview integrates the NowTv channels into the Freeview EPG when it launches I can see Sky Subs dropping rapidly.
Oh and you also get Sky Sports News access on mobile devices as well as the boxes free if you have an active Now TV account!
Everyone should buy these boxes, stockpile the vouchers, then sell the boxes on eBay as they go for around a tenner once the deal expires (I know, I sell them...)
brookysm
23 Mar 16#27
Sky haven't said when the new box is arriving other than this year. The vouchers arent tied to any boxes only your account so there's no reason not to stockpile other than simply that a deal on these appears fairly regular - Amazon did em for £18.50ish just last month.
BaSe
23 Mar 16#23
Same as many others we found we only watch the Sky channels that are included in this subscription plus freeview channels so Sky has been cut and we buy deals like this saving £50 a month. Will probably upgrade to the new box when it arrives too. This is a bargain and will be grabbing one for sure.

23 Mar 161#22

The HDMI cable uses HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection), a copy protection scheme to eliminate the possibility of intercepting digital data midstream between the source to the TV.
I think the Now TV box also contains a video (yellow), audio left (red) and audio right (white) cable connection which you could connect to a DVD/HD recorder. But it will probably also have a copy protection system.

Now question for u please ☺️
Can you also watch the sky channels live too
Live tv through this
All I can see are catch up programs
Select bbc1 bbc2 etc then move to 'on now' > watch live
My apps>ITV app>Channels
Select ITV, ITV2 ITVBe etc (will show what is 'on now')
I notice this has sky arts which is one of my favourite channels. What kids and sports channels do they have please?
Also when people have got rid of their sky etc packages what do they have for broadband please. Thanks
Nothing like that in the package, bummer.
Thinking I've been let down by Argos and they've not included the pas, can anyone confirm how the pass is packaged please?
Yes buying these boxes with these offers is beating the system, playing it is winning it- Sky and Virgin prefer those who just pay month in month out and don't question it, they are the ones who pay for the content they buy.
Amazon Prime will probably never clean up, they can't even beat Netflix at the same game - they are like Google, too large to actually concentrate on putting everything in place that works for everyone.
Ooooh ...just did....you are right. Was only 1 season when i looked a couple of weeks ago! Happy days!!!!
BTW...I can only see Season 1 of GoT on NOW...am I looking in the wrong place?
Even my phone can get the Iplayer app so if I didn't own a tv but it was capable you need one.
There was that court case years ago where BBC failed to change the system to need a licence to own a phone because its "capable" its just unclear on the app side of things.
If you go to a channel on the nowtv box iplayer app and select 'watch live' i'm pretty sure the BBC will class that as the ability to watch BBC channels 'live'
Or am I missing something?
