ok, so its only 3g, but for something to take on UK holidays, it's almost "throwaway" with 6gb included in the price.
Also handy for a house move where you have to wait a week or two to get your broadband sorted!

See those speech marks, they indicate something. Simply that it is cheap enough to be used as a disposable item, he is not suggesting to do so.

Im on lookout for a decent data sim deal on payg only for my mifi device too...EE always seem to bring out decent deals, but currently all on contract basis. So if anyone can recommend one??

Why don't you just buy the EE 4g pre loaded sims? Usually can find a sim preloaded with 6gb of 4g data (which lasts 3 months) for approx £15 a time.

Don't worry, the grandchildren will no doubt have a better comprehension of modern English language. Interpreting the use of quotation marks in written speech in particular.

What's not seem to been mentioned is that the data included is valid for 90 days. At only ~£8.33/month for 2GB it definitely would be cheaper to buy a new one as it costs £10/month for only 1GB to top it up.

Is this a one off payment or a contract?

I think it can yes. It's a huwaui unit if that's how you spell it. I have a vodaphone one that I was going to unlock to EE but never have.

Throwaway is a term. Those are quote marks used for quotes. Don't throw it away "its a decent device" as someone once said to me.

Probably cheapest to buy in Norway? I know I visit the USA regularly I just buy prepaid data Sims over there.

Just bought an EE Osprey version of one of these £20 a month 30 day rolling contract.
Just moved house and BT are quoting me up to 1mb download speeds. Realised I'm better getting one of these as I can just pick up 4g if I have this placed at the back of the house.
Found this as a better solution for rural areas if you can get a half decent signal from outside. Going to cancel the contract and get it unlocked to try different networks.
Think each network is hit and miss from house to house where I live so prob best to never get tied in until you know that the signal is constant with your carrier.

Car phone warehouse is a 30 day rolling contract- it's 4g and comes unlocked. Cancel on day of purchase and take advantage of 15gb data and a device to keep for life. There's a thread on here- still active.

Will do this, thought I'd have to pay for a month before I cancelled. Will phone up and cancel today thanks.

This is ideal, thanks! Going to pick up one of the Vodafone Big Data PAYG sims with 50gb as well. Moving house, and get excellent 4g coverage in the area on VF.

yes 1 month contract. So if you just want the device and months subscription thats a better deal. I got this before so if anyone does want to do this phone up when you get the device to cancel the subscription and cancel your direct debit as they kept charging me anyway.

Can this be unlocked? If so, how and what would it cost? Would one of the mobile market stalls be able to do it?

You may find that Vodafone will block use of the PAYG SIM in the MiFi device.
I'm using the 50GB SIM in my Smart Ultra 6 and cannot tether at all, much to my annoyance as I previously thought that Vodafone allowed you to use data however way you choose, like EE does. But it doesn't seem to be the case.

That's a fault with the Smart Ultra 6, not with Vodafone. Exactly the same happened with me (Smart Ultra 6, 50GB SIM) and a quick Google revealed an adb command you can run that corrects it.
You *can* use Vodafone data however you want to - just that some of their phones are a bit tish.

Conversely, while I had my FreedomPop 50GB SIM in my Smart Ultra 6 I was able tether away to my heart's content! Which I found very bizarre as they use Three, and Three are very funny with tethering.
That's interesting to hear. Think I'll get my EE Osprey unlocked and will try the 50GB Vodafone SIM in that.
These offers, like the EE 100GB SIMs, have been a godsend to me for the past year. Just really hope EE brings out another promo soon.

I think that's the phone itself. I also have a SU6, and am unable to tether with my contract SIM, when I know that it works in other devices. This fix works apparently, but I'm yet to try it.
I asked the guy in the Vodafone store directly, can I put this in a MiFi device, and his reply was "yes".

You won't be able to use it in Spain. Your best bet is to use a Three Feel at Home data SIM.

First think about what you will use it for. Email and text based use is usually fine, Photos and especially streaming music or video will use a lot of data
There are two possible issues, both are easy solvable…
First is the SIM card you get with the MiFi , you may need roaming enabled on the card that comes with it, (and that can be expensive if you want a lot of data). EE do a 50MB add on at £3 a day, 100MB is £5 a day , or £12 gets you 200mb valid for a week. Can be good if you only need to use it on a few days, rather than every day, if you think you will use hotels/restaurants may have Wifi.
A good tip is pretty much all McDonalds worldwide have free Wifi, You can either mooch outside, or go and eat or get a coffee (depending on your view of McDonalds), and use their Wifi.
You can also get a local SIM card instead if you will use a lot of data, however by law you need to register the SIM card. The market is not as free as here where you can get sim cards everywhere, you will need to show a Spanish ID card or your passport. A SIM Card and starter data pack is likely to be around €10, so you need to think how much data you will use, if it’s just for a few emails pay EE’s 7 day fee, if it’s a lot go for a local SIM. However you probably need to get the MiFi Unlocked (see next point).
Second problem is these devices are subsidised by the network so they are often locked to only use one network. What that means is you should then pay a fee to remove this bar, EE may charge up to £20 to do this. However there are eBay sellers and free code generators out there who will do it for a lot less.
Once you get this try putting any other networks SIM into the MiFi and go to its admin page, if it asks for a code its locked. Depending on how EE set them up they may or may not be locked, there is no way to tell in advance. Often if the box is not EE branded it will be unlocked but that’s no guarantee.
I’d suggest you do this check / unlock well in advance, You can do this any time and once done any sim card will work in the unit, so it can be used on other holidays too.

That's the fix that worked for me. The biggest problem I had was getting the developer drivers for the Ultra 6 but it turns out they're stored onboard the phone - it's just a PITA getting at them.

oh, you will have to pay the first month- £20, but no more than that. Make sure you read post no.80 and 82 on the thread linked.
